Day 12 - Saturday 18 February - Antigua

So went to bed around 20:30, took a while to get to sleep, but then slept til after 6.

Waited til David woke up before going up to see the arrival. There were two other ships already in port, and another one came in behind us.

Got ready and had breakfast in the restaurant. And got Rickrolled by one of the wait staff haha.

Finished getting ready then headed off the ship.

We wandered round the south side of the harbour (past the VC Bird Memorial) to get some photos of all the ships in port.

Then we wandered back through town. Found an old lighthouse. And Government House. And the cathedral.

And then back to the ship for lunch in the buffet.

After lunch it was time for our tour. Unfortunately Bob the astronomer nabbed the front seat David was going to take. And I ended up with a seat on the right which probably wasn't as good for photos. Sigh. Not to mention the person on a scooter than slowed things down for everyone while they tried to figure out how to get her onto the minibus.

So off we set across the island. There's a lot of churches and a big cricket stadium but not a whole lot else.

Our first stop was at the Blockhouse fort (apparently there's like forty forts across the island). It had some pretty good views to the northeast and a few old buildings.

Then just down the road to Shirley Heights which had some great views towards English Harbour.

Finally we went down to English Harbour for a brief tour of the historic buildings and a small rum punch. They gave us three quarters of an hour but half of that was taken up with the tour and even longer to get drink, so really only had about ten minutes to get some more photos.

And finally a trip back across the island. The tour was running late (not helped by aforementioned people making things complicated and people just generally being late). So we didn't get back to the ship til 16:45, fifteen minutes after all aboard.

We went up to watch the sailaway. And heard an announcement asking for two people to contact guest services, and shortly after three big honks of the horn. I think we went without them because we didn't see anyone else come aboard.

I had a shower, then we went for a swim at Serenity, and had a rum punch. So that was nice.

We stopped into see the show that had just started, which would have been Showtime: Studio VIP.

Then to dinner. We got a bonus entrée of pork bites I think, then I had Roasted Broccoli and Three Cheese, which was like a soup and very tasty, Southern Fried Chicken which was quite nice, and the Carnival Chocolate Melting Cake, but by that time I was very full so David had most of that.

After dinner we popped into the Piano Bar right in the middle of Living Next Door to Alice which was a bit of fun. Sat up one end of the bar and had a pina colada, and talked to a couple of people in passing.

Then we went downstairs to the Red Frog Pub and had a bit of a dance with Voncile and Robin, although the band only did one song before they went on break, so I decided to call it because it was pretty late.
