For the beginning of our trip, our parents decided that getting used to driving on the wrong side of the road would be a lot easier out in the countryside than in the big city. So on our first morning, we jumped onto the interstate 10 and headed east.
We went up into mountains to see if there was anything worth seeing. There wasn't much, but I got to see snow on the ground for the first time! There wasn't much, just a few little clumps on the verges of the road. It was up here I first noticed the wierdness of crossing the road when cars come from the opposite direction you expect. You have to triple check to make sure no cars are coming!
Then we continued east, stopping in Palm Springs. From there, we caught the Aerial Tramway up to the top of the mountain. Where where was snow! So much snow! Our first time getting to play in snow and it was amazing. And then it snowed! Fresh snow! At one point I even caught a perfectly formed little snow flake on my glove. Just amazing. We had so much fun up there, but eventually we caught the tramway back down.

From there we continued to head east. But it was getting late in the afternoon by now. In fact it was getting dark, so sadly we didn't get to see any Joshua Tree cactus plants.
We'd underestimated the time we would spend travelling that day. My parents had already booked accommodation for the night - a Motel 6 in Phoenix. Because they'd booked it, we went for it. But it meant several hours of driving at night. In fact we didn't arrive til nearly 1am!
