I'm the sort of person that takes *everything* personally, and way too seriously for my own good. While I can rationally see this as a flaw in my brain, it's somewhat difficult to overcome.
So when I read comments like this about myself..
And now Kazza is 'blogging' from the couch, yet fails to think of anything about which to write. Writing just for the sake of filling space in a database, and thus polluting the HTTP sphere even further, should be considered criminal. Heh... *poof* goes 99% of all weblogs :-)
..I am totally shattered. It's these sorts of comments that I take to heart and have the potential to plunge me into days or even weeks of depression.
Yes I know this blog is a waste of space on the internet (as far as I know only two people read it). Yes the majority of the hits to this blog are from lusers looking for stuff on kazaa. Yes most of the time I can't really think of anything particularly interesting to blog about.
The silliest part about it is that it wasn't even my idea to start this stoopid thing. And the person that got me started isn't blogging himself anymore.
But, dammit, why should I stop because of one person's opinions?
Here's some of the search terms that brought people to my blog in February:
Number, Number of referrals, Percentage of referals, Search term
1 87 43.50% kazza
2 5 2.50% waterfall train disaster
3 3 1.50% csiro sentinal
4 3 1.50% kazza music
5 3 1.50% my kazza
6 3 1.50% photos of canberra
7 2 1.00% avril lavinge wallpaper
8 2 1.00% free top-up codes
9 2 1.00% kambrook
10 2 1.00% kazza cheat

17 2 1.00% waterfall tragedy
18 2 1.00% www.kazza
19 2 1.00% www.kazza music.com
(only keywords with two or more search referrals included)
It seems that kazaa losers are still the biggest visitors from search engine referrals *sigh*
1. What was the last song you heard?
"Forever May Not be Long Enough" by Live (in the credits of "The Mummy Returns")
2. What were the last two movies you saw?
"The Mummy Returns" and "Dragonheart"
3. What were the last three things you purchased?
Petrol, McDonalds for dinner last night (bleah), Subway for lunch yesterday
4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?
Reinstall my operating system, buy a small tank for my betta (and think of a name for him), look for property, support mail (and think about documentation)
5. Who are the last five people you talked to?
The dude at the petrol station, Jim, Luc, Houssein, Ross
I was only in the car for a few minutes tonight driving home from James and George's, but just long enough to hear a few minutes of the Phil O'Neil show. Their topic of the moment was reality tv, and has it gone too far. The very last thing they asked before going to a song and I got home was "would you watch a live execution on tv?" I would have to say, probably not.
When I was in uni, we were shown a video in one of our general studies subjects in which two people were killed (in separate incidents). I'd never seen anything like this before, and I found it quite disturbing. So no, if I had the opportunity to watch an execution on tv, I would probably choose not to watch.
hrm that was rather macarb .. how about a this or that tuesday..
1. Holland or Netherlands? I call it the Netherlands
2. Emu or Ostrich? I've read the rest of these, and they are alternate names for the same thing. Emus and ostriches are not the same thing! They are entirely different birds
3. Biff or Happy? er..
4. Quincy or Braintree? who?
5. Cassius Clay or Muhammad Ali? Depends on your context I suppose. I always think of him as Muhammad Ali
6. Instanbul or Constantinople? Istanbul
7. Pig or Swine? Pig
8. Barf or Puke? I probably use barf more often
9. Potatoes or Spuds? Potatoes more often, but I use spuds too
10. Squeeze Box or Accordion? Accordian
hrm well that was a bit of a silly one.
Well today was Valentine's Day. For me just another day.
For my parents, however, it was 33 years ago today that they got married :) To celebrate we went out for dinner (Mum and Dad, David and I) to a local chinese restaurant (which was quite crowded, obviously popular). It was all very pleasant and we all ate way too much, even taking home three "doggy bags" of leftovers :)
After dinner we all played a couple of games of five hundred, while watching "The World is Not Enough" on DVD.
Friday Five time!
1. Explain why you started to journal/blog.
Vic told me I should :) Apparently it's good for search engine rankings
2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not?
A couple do. I don't like to publish myself too much. I figure the people most likely to read any of this are total strangers coming here looking for Avril Lavinge and Vodaphone topup codes (at least that's what the referrer logs say :) )
3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog?
As the title says - "Boring Life Of a Geek" - I reckon that's what BLOG should stand for. Certainly what most blogs are about
4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year?
I don't have any direction planned. I will just blog randomly
5. Pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs.
Pimp? What an ugly word. How about "plug". Well there's Vic and Janelle, and Striker who are the only people I know in real life who blog, and I've been reading FurryElectrician and still on the lookout for other interesting blogs to add to the list.
damn, missed the post again tonight.
Have to go to work tomorrow too :( Doing an upgrade to our notes server. Really must go to sleep now.. zzzzzz night...
Well OK it wasn't really a comment.. it was:
"I don't now whay my kazza not connect?"
in response to the article about my blog's domain name.
The IP whoised to Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania which was kinda cool, except the question was utterly pointless.
How many times do I have to tell people that I am Kazza *NOT KAZAA*!!!
On a lighter note.. I went to CIA, did some support mail, went to Luc and Lizzi's for dinner (Bible Study dinner), and finished my share of the support mail, all by 10:30pm!
I did two installations of w2k server today, and another one tomorrow. Installed Active Directory for the first time ever (in fact I'd never even seen AD on a real live server before today).
Had our first work outing for the year today. As per usual I had the chicken kiev. I have that every time, I really should have something different next time.
Also got spammed with high school reunion emails. Yes if I've gotten the email once, I don't need to get the same email another three times. This reunion even has a website. I'm quite surprised at the number of missing persons - lots of people I would have thought would still be contactable by their friends after all this time. I also saw the name of my best friend in Year 7 - Nicole Vasek, who I haven't talked to since 1986 - it'd be lovely to try and find her again. There's also lots of names I barely recognise, and lots of names that I recognise but can't picture their faces. I'm gonna have to raid mum's photo collection and try and fit names to faces.
I'll prolly go to the reunion.. I think I'll regret it later.. but apparently only half the year is married, so can't be all that bad .. we'll see I guess :/ Even if it's all good, how the heck am I going to catch up with 100 people? Even 50?? Barely be enough time to just say hello to everyone, let alone find out what they've been up to for the past 12 years..
In the same vein as This or That Tuesday, we have the Friday Five.
1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn't have breakfast, why not?
I had sultana bran. You know I really hate it when people ask me "Where do you live?" and "What do you do?".. I reckon people should ask more original things. The example I used at my Catch Phrase audition was "what did you have for breakfast this morning?", which was also the icebreaker for the group that did the Harbour Bridge Climb when I went. Yeah yeah stoopid story.
2. What's your favorite cereal?
Favourite? Perhaps Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, or Sultana Bran
3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change?
For dinner probably every other week. It's ok; I like eating out, saves cooking, but costs more
4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that?
I've already had dinner. Had calamari/prawns/crab from a fish and chips shop for Ryan's 4th birthday
5. What's your favorite restaurant? Why?
If Subway counts as a restaurant then that. Otherwise I don't know - maybe Touch of Thai on Glebe Point Rd, or Tums Thai in Randwick - bizarre really since I can't eat very spicy food (too hot!)

6th July 2004:
Way back in February last year, when this blog was still a baby, I made a comment about the search terms that people had put into search engines to come to my blog. One of them was "ar-620t". A couple of people made comments and this entry is now number one in Google for ar-620t. Since people seem to be posting to it more and more often, I thought I'd better put up this little header paragraph to welcome you all. Apologies for the long page, you may have to search a bit for anything useful.
Here's the original entry from last February, scroll down for the forum:
Below are the keywords that people typed into search engines to bring them to my blog in January 2003:
27 17.76% kazza
21 13.82% sentinal csiro
8 5.26% kazza movies
7 4.61% sentinal hotspots
5 3.29% csiro sentinal
4 2.63% csiro fire sat* image sentinal
3 1.97% ar-620t
3 1.97% fish tank lights
3 1.97% strictly aquariums
2 1.32% fish tank stuff
2 1.32% growing plants movies
2 1.32% kazza little
2 1.32% kazza news 2003
2 1.32% rockdale plaza
2 1.32% sentinal
The first column is the number of times the keyword/phrase was used - I only showed ones with two or more repeats. The second column is the percentage and the third column is the keyword/phrase.
"kazza" was the biggest drawcard to my site, thanks in no small part to the fact that people are *stupid* and can't spell to save themselves. It's KAZAA people *NOT* KAZZA!! Sheesh! Get it right! www.kazza.com actually used to have someone's personal page, but now it's run by the producers of kazaa for all the stupid people out there in the world.
"sentinal" also brought in a lot of visits because I actually mistyped it when I wrote it - it's meant to be "sentinel" referring to the CSIRO Sentinel page which shows bushfire hotspots in Australia.
There were also a bunch of referrals from my fish tank references. My blog is the only page indexed by Google to contain "ar-620t". This is the name of an aquarium tank made by Aqua One. Aqua One is a company that does not have a website, and obviously relies on resellers and retailers to promote its products. In this day and age if a company doesn't have a website they are seriously behind the times. At least that's my opinion anyway.
So I've not been able to find out a single thing about this fish tank that I now own, because there is not one single webpage out there dedicated to AR-620T fish tanks that can give me the specifications of my tank. The leaflet that came with it was just as useless, so if anyone out there has one of these tanks and their specs, maybe they could pass them along!
Damn, missed the post .. er rather, I missed getting this post in by midnight, so now it's wednesday - oops! Oh well, time for a This or That Tuesday then, cause I'm too asleep to think of anything else..
1. Morning or night person? Probably a morning person. Although when I'm holidays I go to bed later and later each night. I think maybe my biocycle is 25 hours or something
2. Heavy or light sleeper? Fairly light
3. Remember your dreams or not? Sometimes
4. Do you need a lot of sleep, or just a little? I try to get 8 hours, but during the week it's mostly 6-7 hours
5. Do you need something like a nightlight or TV to sleep, or do you prefer complete darkness? Don't care, dark is good but some window light is also cool
6. Flannel sheets or some other kind? Flannel in winter, cotton in summer
7. One pillow, or more? Just the one
8. Bedroom door opened or closed at night? When I was 11 some irresponsible mother let us watch Friday 13th at a slumber party. I was never quite the same after that, and always kept my bedroom door at home closed at night, because we had a big garage and workshop downstairs and I was paranoid about people hiding somewhere. I feel much more secure in my unit and never bother closing the door
9. Wrap yourself into blankets like a cocoon, or just cover yourself with them? Just cover myself
10. Alarm clock: wake to music or buzzer? Music, a buzzer is too harsh
Well that was kind of appropriate, considering how sleepie I feel. Just gotta finish setting up this server before I go to bed...
