Went to see Weird Al Yankovic at the Royal Theatre at the Convention Centre tonight.

Two notes to self:
* always remember to take ear plugs along to these sorts of things
* never ever book tickets on the floor of the Convention Centre

Apart from having to jam my fingers in my hears for maybe a third of the night, and getting very frustrated from not being able to see the stage from behind all the tall people in front of me, it was pretty good.

He alternated between doing a song and then playing video clips of mock interviews, clips from tv shows etc that referred to him.  While the clips were on he'd be getting changed into a different outfit for the next song.  A lot of different outfits!  He did many of the most popular songs, eg Fat, Eat It, Amish Paradise, eBay, and The Saga Begins as part of the encore, with plenty of audience participation :)  and plenty of songs I didn't know too.

So that was all good.

Afterwards the sweetie was trying to see if he could get a tshirt, but didn't know if they had any in his size.  So he hung around at the back of the queue to check.  Which meant we were still there very late, almost the last to leave.  Which meant that when somebody mentioned a signing, we thought we'd wait and see... and sure enough - he came out!!  Very squee!!  So got a heap of photos, and even got an autograph on the CD I'd just bought.  !!

Epic crap day (evening) at work.. accidently broke half the network for a couple of hours.. *yay*.  Stressed/depressed.. they'll most likely fire me in the morning :(

Dave gave me a lift home, and I snaffled his camera to take photos of grasshoppers while he was getting petrol.

The latest album holds 300 photos (gah!!) so doing it in pieces.

This album (so far) has a trip Hao and I did to an IFES conference in Queensland, 21st birthdays for Chris Pascoe, Nicola and Hao, and some touristy things we did in Melbourne after Hao's birthday.

Firstly, a comparison of Brisbane in 1995 vs 2010 from Southbank.  Few more buildings there now!

Then there was the fig tree growing out of the side of a building in Foveaux St, Surry Hills.  In 1995 it looked like this

Finished reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown on the weekend.  Really quite enjoyed it.  It's certainly a page-turner and very easy to read.  I suppose the fact that it was so similar to the movie helped me visualise it as it went.

Do need to get to the Louvre one day.  Went to Temple Church but not Westminster Abbey ($60 with no photos to show for it was just stoopid so didn't go pretty much as a protest).  Rosslyn Chapel might have made it onto the todo list if we'd had the time.

Here's a couple of pics of Temple Church in London

Went to Fyshwick this arvo so the sweetie could get a new mini stereo for the bedroom (the last one died - won't power on - probably something simple, but not for us.  Besides, he wanted one with an iPod dock).  Stopped in at Officeworks so I could buy some paper (so I don't have to keep stealing paper from work to make my origami).

Apparently the water signs had another farewell message on them yesterday, but when we went past the one on Barry Drive today it was turned off :(

Came home and made another dodecahedron, this time a three-coloured one.  Looks pretty good.  It's a pity it takes so long to fold PHiZZ units, or I'd have made a bigger one.  Learnt about the Hamiltonian Path.  Photos soon - will be doing some more dedicated stuff for all the origami I've been doing.  This site totally made my night!  Will be naffing some of the patterns off that to make :)

Also made excellent progress on the jigsaw.  Did more on it today than in the three weeks or so that I worked on the flowers.

And just so this blog entry isn't completely colourless..

Another night, another boring blog entry.

I've been working on a new Phizz ball.  Was hoping to get it finished tonight, but have to get up early tomorrow so didn't.

I don't even have any photos to blog.  Well I do, but there's more on the camera that had to go with it that I haven't downloaded yet.

Sorry this week has been so dull.  Maybe as I recover it'll get more interesting.. hrmm... or not...
So I forgot to blog before I went to bed.  No matter.  That was two hours ago but I still don't feel sleepie.

#grunt

Not that I have anything interesting to write about.  Day was completely boring.  Resized all my UK photos for general consumption.  Worked on my jigsaw.  Coughed.  Went to bed.  Coughed even more.  Didn't feel sleepie.  Neither does the sweetie.  And lying down is just so fricken uncomfortable!!  So got up.

*sigh*

Here's a photo of my angel fish that my brother talked me into taking the other morning.

Snail Comparison

Saw an unusual sight this morning - a snail crawling across our front welcome mat in broad daylight.  Of course this needed to be documented.  So tormented the little guy a bit by putting him in the sun and taking photos on three different cameras to compare them.

I used my old Sony F828, our Sony S600 (Random Camera) and my Canon 500D (in that order in the photos below).

They all did quite well.  I've half forgotten how to use my old F828 so had to try and remember when to use macro and when not.  I think the photo I went with was using macro.  Random camera doesn't actually have a macro feature, but can get quite close.  Unfortunately it's focus is not as accurate and kept focussing on further in the background.  The Canon did well enough too, but no macro at all on that one, so have to sit back and zoom all the way.  This means the depth of field is very shallow, so the shell was out of focus when the head was in focus.

So overnight I was a bit delirious from this cold.  I was stressing over the firewall rules I was going to need opened so I could breathe, and was hoping security would hurry up and approve them.  Hrmm.  So took some Coldeze and slept a bit better after that.

Today I was slowed down but refused to be stopped.  Stu had been wanting to go out for breakfast, so we went to Black Pepper.  It was very crowded, and after nearly getting blown away outside, we only got rained on a little bit.  But the food was yummy yum.

Went down to the lake and photographed some swallows and a blue dragonfly.

Then went to the other side of the lake to feed the swans/ducks/coots etc.

This arvo I didn't do much, really just read news feeds and started working on my 3000 Ravensburger jigsaw (which I've never actually done myself - I lent it to Marylon once and I helped a bit then).  And photographed all the Harry Potter Lego from last year.

Tonight scanned 69 photos, mostly from 1994.  Photos included a series on Snowy, my budgie, my 21st birthday and some miscellaneous photos.

This was my budgie, Snowy, that I got for Christmas (or thereabouts) in 1993.  Had him (her? - Dad always thought it was a girl and called it a Widgie) for five years.

This is looking down the maintenance shaft of Sydney Tower.  My mother and I climbed Sydney Tower's steps - all 1385 of them!

Scanned another 72 photos tonight.  These ones were from mid 1993 to mid 1994.  The album included a lot of miscellaneous photos, and Hao's visit to Sydney and my subsequent trip to Melbourne with him.

When Hao came to Sydney he had arranged to meet Linton, who was at Summer School with us.  Linton worked at the airport (for Qantas?) and was able to show us around a 747-438 (VH-OJG) under maintenance.  It was way cool!!

We did quite a bit of touristy stuff when I went down to Melbourne, including wandering around the Yarra and Southbank, Old Melbourne Gaol, the Shot Tower, the Museum and out to Healesville Sanctuary.

Cooked a lamb roast tonight.  Got some stuff done around the house, but not as much as I would have liked (and no cleaning :/ ).  Got a bit frustrated with GPS Photo Tagger which seems to think my photos are all an hour out to when they were really taken.  I've used this successfully before with correct times, so no idea why it's having a spack now :(  Most frustrating.
