This week's Theme Thursday is entitled "Desperation". My first thoughts were "how the heck am I going to find a picture for that??" In desperation I fired up an ancient copy of Thumbs Plus and started searching through all my photos trying to find something appropriate. The picture I chose may not quite convey desperation very well, but it's a very cool photo.
What's amazing about this photo is the subject. There is a tree literally growing out of the side of a building. Its roots have followed the brickwork, creating fantastic looking shapes. And it's not just any tree. This is a Moreton Bay fig tree - among the biggest trees there are! It's managed to successfully bonsai itself. It hasn't grown much in the years that I've known about it. I've been watching it for ten years and it hasn't grown very much, so it's probably been around quite a lot longer.
The photo was taken two years ago, I'll have to stop by again some time and get an update on it.

Here we have a pub called the Red Lion and Pineapple (in Acton actually)... it was built around a tree and the tree gomes out the roof... I haven't been there in a while but I believe it's there still!

That's cool! I have a plant in my work office that's growing out of a rock. The poor thing was near death and tossed in the garbage, but I rescued it. That was over 10 years ago. He has his ups and downs, but somehow is surviving.

There's a plant at work that's been there since I started 6.5 years ago. It's completely indestructable - it can go a month without watering. Mind you it hasn't grown much in that time, it's still the same size as when I first saw it.. but it reminds me of my boss because it was his plant before I started taking care of it

That is the oddest thing I've seen today. I don't know how desperate the tree is right now, but I can't imagine how it managed to hang on up there before its root structure developedtalk about desperation. Seems to me it should have just fallen off...
