FQ1: In one word, describe a luxury item you would want if stranded on a desert island for a year. Why?
Computer. Of course it'd have to have a satellite broadband connection, and generator :) I spend my life on my computer/the internet, so it wouldn't really matter where I was so long as I had it.

FQ2: In one word, describe a food you wouldn't mind eating every day for a month. Why?
Meat. I'm a carnivore

FQ3: In one word, describe an occupation that you wouldn't necessarily want as a career, but wouldn't mind trying out for a week. Why?
Pilot. And I'd love to do it as a career. It's the only thing I ever wanted to be when I grew up.

FQ Search: Enter your first name PLUS the above three words into a Google search and see if anything interesting comes up!
Results. I don't make the top ten. Putting my name as kazza though and I make number five :)

FQ TOPIC: Culinary

FQ1: In addition to the dearly departed Julia Child, who is your favorite food personality?
Jamie Oliver is vaguely cool but possibly a bit up himself. I like Aristos (Surprise Chef - he'd come to people's houses and cook up a storm with whatever was already in their fridges, very cool)

FQ2: What meal would you have this culinary genius prepare for you if they asked?
I dunno.. something involving lots of meat and lots of creamy sauces

FQ3: If they refused, and you could eat at any restaurant you wanted as a consolation, which one would you choose?
The Little Snail in Darling Harbour is pretty good. On the other end of the price spectrum, Tum's Thai in Randwick is fantastic also.

FQ KITCHEN: Share with us a favorite recipe or cooking tip.
A strange recipe of my own design:

  • half a thingie of sour cream (200ml)
  • bit of a splash of milk (200ml)
  • few teaspoons of corn flour
  • some shredded tasty cheese (handful or so)

  • mix up sauce and pour over oiled potatos that have been prewarmed for 20 min or so
  • cook for another hour or so until golden

  • Tuesday Twosome

Lacking inspiration I went in search of memes to play

    Trying Tuesday Twosome:

    Back To School.....
(What you prefer now or preferred when you were in school)

    1. Cafeteria or sack lunch:
Well I always preferred "tuck shop" food to homemade sandwiches, but rarely got it. Nowadays I eat out for lunch every day.

    2. CliffsNotes or read the book:
I suppose I really should do a Google search to figure out what that means

    3. Uniforms or wear whatever you want:
Uniforms aren't bad cause then you don't have to think of what to wear. However these days I wear jeans and a t-shirt every day, so it's kind of like a uniform anyway

    4. Math or Science:
    I liked both of them

    5. Homework or detention:
blegh neither. Although I never got detention and always did my homework, even if at the last minute!

Man I was so wrecked today. Even though I had 7.5 hours sleep last night, the 4 hours on Saturday night hit hard today. It's always the day after the day after a late night that you suffer most.

Watched the only ten minutes I've seen this season of Big Brother to find out who won. Trevor apparently.

Have also been reading the website of this dude who's a paraplegic after the car he was a passenger in ran off the road due to excessive speed (it was on A Current Affair and they were interviewing him). Site is shemboy.com.

And finally I've decided to go on somewhat of a health kick. Mainly cutting down on mail sizes and fatty/sugary snack foods. This of course will be as soon as I've finished all the food I have. I still have chocolate in the house from Christmas! And Easter. And some wonderful Fruit Parfaits that Dave gave me that I've been munching on :)

Then why is it so warm? Had to take my jumper off today. Of course it was a new jumper, so it left black fluff all over my tshirt!

Got to bed at 9 last night and woke up mostly recovered at 6. You know not once while I was away did I wake up in the middle of the night wondering where I was, even though we were in a different place practically every night. Yet last night, I woke up wondering where I was, and took me a moment to realise I was actually at home! How bizzare is that?

Another useful side effect of going away was that I starved most of my cockroaches. There are lots of dead ones around, and not much evidence of live ones (although I did see one this morning because I couldn't wash up last night because the hot water hadn't come back yet). Have made a resolution with myself to keep the flat tidy and wash up after every meal to slow down the little critters moving back in again. And tie up the garbage whenever there's accessable food in there.

Still need to do a water change in the big tank, wash up, unpack, and think about how I'm going to sort out my photos....

    tt-indespensable.jpg

Well there are plenty of indispensable things - air, water, food etc.

But what about the little things we take for granted?

    Like toilet paper.

I for one could not survive without toilet paper, and could not go on "Survivor" for that very reason.

And here we have four rolls of the stuff!

    tt-strain.jpg

Was at the airport the other day.

It was mid morning and looking north into the sun.

Through all the haze it was a strain to see the city.

Sorry not much imagination to this photo. The only other things I could think of were food strainers. Boring.

    :)

    Greek Line Dancing

It was my cousin's son's christening tonight, which was followed by a very Greek dinner function. It brought back quite a few memories from my childhood. My uncle married a Greek lady and so all the christenings of my cousins and other such functions were held in Greek Orthodox church, with lots of chanting and insense. Followed by big parties with lots of people, lots of food, and lots of line dancing. Tonight, for a new generation, was no exception.

It was a lot of fun, although the music got very loud towards the end of the night. It really kills opportunities for conversation.

I also noticed for the first time tonight that my aunty's brother (on the right in the pic, aunty is on the left, cousin in the middle) is kinda cute, for an old guy (he's bald which helps :) ). He was fully getting into the dancing, was pretty cool :)

    Betta's Better

My betta was much happier this morning. I think he was just grumpy with me last night for turning the light on after he'd been asleep for a while.

I went to the fish shop today to get more fish food.. and was amazed at how tiny the angels and siamensis there were. Found it rather hard to believe that my fish were ever that small.

    David Bowie

Needless to say, I didn't want it end. I actually cried. It was a very emotional experience for me. It was a night I've been waiting 14 years for. What must truly be a once-in-a-lifetime event for me.

The night began with me heading over to Sami and Cathy's place, where we then drove to Rozelle Bay to catch the light rail into Haymarket. A quick bite of food to eat and then we headed into the Entertainment Center. At 7:30, "Something for Kate" came on. They weren't bad, but it was very noisy and I only knew a couple of their songs. They finished around 8:15.

Forty-five minutes of stage rearranging later and finally the moment I've been waiting half my life for - David Bowie entered the room. Of course the crowd went wild and my ear drums got another pumelling :) He launched straight into Rebel Rebel, one of my favourite songs of his. Then a couple of tracks off Reality, Fame, a whole lot more songs I know only vaguely, if at all. Still, there was a sprinkling of the old classics throughout the show - The Man Who Sold the World, China Girl, Life on Mars (I started to cry at this point), Under Pressure, White Light White Heat (I haven't heard that song in *ages*!!), Ashes to Ashes, Heroes, All the Young Dudes.

    David Bowie

The show finished with a bang - Suffragette City (another of my all time favourites), and Ziggy Stardust.. "... Ziggy played .. guitaararrr" and then he was gone.

At 10:00 I realised that half the show had gone and that I didn't want it to end in a mere hour. This was a man who occupied my thoughts for much of my waking life for almost two years. And here I was in the same room as him. Looking at him in the flesh, albeit at a distance. I will probably never see him again. He's just turned 57 for heavens sake, he's hardly going to be galavanting around the world for much longer, certainly not on a grand concert scale.

The production was certainly a lot simpler than previous productions (cf Glass Spider). No set changes, no costume changes, quite a simple light show, and very little theatrics. Just the band and the music really. Obviously a very "lean" production to make it quite a bit easier to get around.

And how oh how is one able to get a front row seat, where you can stand up, put your hand up, and be touched by rock royalty? If only I knew..
