Super quiet Christmas morning for us. Although not exactly unbusy. I got up and prepped some cherries for later, as well as making a huge Christmas brunch - muffins with ham, bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. It was quite a bit of effort, and not really restaurant quality, but I suppose it was decent enough.
Caught up on blogging and finished wrapping Christmas presents, and now I have to prepare a bunch more food for later this arvo.
Today was food shopping day.
Then tonight we had Damien and Amanda over for roast pork (you gotta have roast pork - it's Christmas! ;) ). Some wine and much noms were enjoyed, as well as heckling of Carols in the Domain.
Worked from home this morning (couldn't face going to work). And then wandered down to Tony's for their section's Christmas party (which I'm apparently an honorary member of, go figure). Was a lovely (if slightly hot) afternoon, where *much* food was consumed, and a keg of Zierholz german ale.
100 farts in a squeeze!
The little brother and SIL came to town this weekend to run the booze train out to Tarago. For Saturday lunch we went to Zierholz. I have to say the service as MUCH improved since
last time we were there. Probably only twenty minutes wait for food.
I had crumbed risotto balls - cheesy goodness with a lovely sauce on the salad. These came first, so I may have had some assistance eating them :)
Stu's kransky
Dave's pork belly
Yvonne's fish
We also ended up with two plates of wedges (instead of one).
All pretty good.
The brewery
I even remembered to pick Tony up a keg for the party on Friday :)
Went along with various family members to have Noah's birthday party at Ardeche. Us grownups enjoyed it, and we think Noah did too, but I have a feeling his expectations were a little different to reality. He did make a pretty good effort with his food though.
This dude walked past the restaurant and posed when I went to take a picture :)
Noah's entree. He made a pretty good effort at this, then we helped him finish it :)
Snails! My entree, quite nice, couldn't convince Noah to try one ;)
Noah's duck. He wasn't so keen on this. So we helped :)
My main - a "goat" dish that I thought would be goat, but was actually goat's cheese - oops! :)
Amazing croquembousche they did
Scary sculpture in Garema Place
Had our first of several Christmas parties today. Pretty good day :) Usual food and booze and good times :) And there might have been video of various staff members dancing Gangnam Style :)
I still maintain November is too early to be starting with Christmas parties!
So we celebrated finishing (or *almost* finishing) our supply of vegetables before the next lot arrived, by going out for dinner tonight :)
We were going to go to a Malaysian place in Dickson, but it was closed because it was Monday, so we went to Kimchi instead - Korean BBQ FTW!!
We got some marinated beef and pork - super delicious!
Then we did our food shopping and came home.
Also on Wednesday we went to try out Mad Mex which had just opened this week.
Seems like lots of people had the same idea as us, as the queue was out the door. The service model is much like that of Subway - where you go along the food trays specifying what you want, and pay at the end. Unfortunately this meant for a massive bottleneck at the til, resulting in super slow service. It took us a full fifteen minutes from walking in the door to sitting down with food :( But later the queue had dissipated somewhat, and it would have been quicker then.
The prices were possibly a tad high for the regular meals, around $10 for most things. There's only full sized versions of most menu items, and the nachos I was interested in said they were served with jalapenos (although I probably could have asked them to skip those). So in the end I ordered Nachos plus pork off the kids menu, and at $4.90, that wasn't too bad value.
We'd go back, but only if there wasn't a queue.
Cause there's a whole stack of old entries to read.
Saturday night we went over to Annie's after dinner and hung out for a while which was nice.
Today we dropped a monitor and the Lord of the Rings series over there, bought a printer and did our food shopping.
Then I spent the rest of the afternoon taking care of the pool and the house. And still feeling like I've not made any progress.
Cooked a nice potato bake and carrots and zucchinis for dinner, and shared a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio.
And just like that the weekend is over :(
Yesterday morning we went to As Nature Intended for breakfast.
Then went to Bunnings and also did our food shopping.
Pretty much the rest of the weekend (aside from the
Nara Candle Festival) was spent cleaning and tidying around the house. Spent quite a while yesterday cleaning the pool while the sweetie did some gardening. Organised a big pile of computer bits and pieces. Did some video dubbing (until the DVD player had an error - hoping not a permanent one). Freecycled our leather lounge suite (the one Stu got on Freecycle when he moved to Canberra in 2006). Cleared everything off the lounge and study floors.
The space in here looks *massive* at the moment. It's quite nice to not see clutter everywhere! It got to the point tonight where you could *finally* see all the effort that I put in all weekend. At least in here. The dining table, family room and downstairs are another matter...
