  • Maybe have the wedding either in Yass or in Canberra, at some church, dunno where yet
  • Photos around Lake Burley Griffin. I figure if I'm going to live in Canberra, I want Canberra photos for the wedding
  • Practically, reception should prolly be in Canberra too
  • People with cars would be expected to give people from interstate/overseas lifts around the place :)
  • Thinking of having wedding on a week day, but have a "pre-wedding" party for friends the weekend before. People could have a couple of days in Canberra playing tourist if they wanted to. Be a good chance to catch up with people, since is often hard to do at actual wedding-type events
  • Have a computer with a multi-memory card reader at the reception, and ask everyone to download all their digital photos of the event before they leave

    just some thoughts :)

  • Google Whore

I've become a Google Whore. I now have Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Reader open constantly, regularly use Google Earth and Google Maps, sometimes use Google Groups, and play with Google Sketchup.

Gmail and/or Google Calendar have massive memory leaks though. After leaving them open for any length of time, memory usage for the browser climbs and climbs until my puta grinds to a halt. It seems to be a problem in both IE and Firefox. I suppose the alternative is to reload the browser every so often, but that's a pain in the butt at the best of times. Hopefully someone will fix it.

I've also been using the Google news reader for a week or two. It worked really well last weekend, and was able to keep up with my news feeds from Stu's place. (SH - you *can* UNmark an item as read - just untick the "Mark as read" box.. seems to work ok for me anyway). The biggest problem with it is with people that don't have full feeds, or have badly formatted full feeds (Delmer this means you). To read the entry you have to click on the link to read the article at its source. Which opens up a new browser window which is messy. I prefer how FeedReader does it by opening the article within the frame.

Does anyone know why some Blogspot feeds have the full feed and others just have the beginning/abstract?

At the moment I'm thinking I might try and use the Google Reader for most stuff, and keep using Feedreader for people with messy feeds...

Brought up four boxes of crap from the storage cage. Photographed just about everything in them. Will attempt to give away most of it. Assuming anyone actually wants any of it :/

Did the earth hour thing tonight. Actually most nights I leave the lights off, so turned the fish tank stuff off instead. That and I hadn't set the timers back an hour, so this saved me the trouble. Of course noone else in this block of flats turned their lights off. Nobody here cares.

Oh yeah, and twathead neighbour didn't turn his alarm off for the weekends, so got woken up at 6:09. *sigh*

Gosh Friday night feels like such a long time ago. Had my last full daylight drive to Canberra, and was stunned at how green the countryside is at the moment.

We had beer and sweet chili and sour cream potato chips for dinner .. naughty .. :) Watched some telly and ended up watching Ella Enchanted.

Saturday morning went out to Gold Creek Village to Cafe Injoy with A&S and the kids and had their all day breakfast, which was delicious

Then went across the road and caused a koi feeding frenzy

And the ducks wanted in as well, but one duck decided the whole pond was his and was chasing all the others away.

We all headed out to Belconnen to go to the fresh food market. The kids played in the giant mushroom, and the Stus found a sign that caused them great amusement

    This amused me too

S&K&J came by in the arvo too which was nice.

For dinner we went to Pulp Kitchen in Ainslie for their six week dry aged sirloin, which was yummiferous, although I didn't quite go for the oysters they put on top. I've had two oysters in my life previous to this, now I'm up to about five :)

After dinner Stu took me on a magical mystery tour. He tried to convince me that we were really going home, but we were just going the wrong way entirely hehe. He took me up Mt Ainslie, where I took some photos of the city, but sans-tripod. So will have to back again at some point :)

    Canberra by night

He also took me to Manuka and we had a little bit of a wander around and checked out where all the trendy people hang out.

On Sunday we were going to go to church, but it was 9C and I didn't have a jumper (it was 35C in Sydney on Saturday - how am I meant to know to bring a jumper?? heh). So we didn't end up going out. Well not then. We did later to get coffee, and went to Big W and bought A Beautiful Mind.

While we were out I noticed how clear the sky was from all the rain all day Saturday and the strong winds in the morning, so made Stu take me up Black Mountain

Cooked steak and veggies for dinner and watched A Beautiful Mind.

Today Stu went to work and I telecommuted. The connection was a bit laggy, but I think that it's actually my work computer which is just chugging these days. During my lunch break I went shopping, and did a scrumptious pork roast for dinner. And Stu has a few days worth of leftovers to keep him going :)

Don't really feel like going to work tomorrow....

    Feed meme

As seen at Dave and Neil's yonks ago ...

Do you read blogs off of the list that is linked on your site or do you use a feed reader?
I used to read them off my homepage, but it just got too much, and so many sites don't update daily anyway
    If so, what feed reader?
I use FeedReader but tempted to look at Google reader cause I always get so far behind whenever I go away for the weekend.
What about adding people to your feed reader?
I try not to do it too much anymore cause I have enough to deal with. But occasionally if something sparks my interest I'll add them.
What is your policy on adding people to your blogroll?
Most of the blogs in my feedreader are there, except newer ones or ones that I don't really feel part of (don't post often or I'm just a distant lurker)
What about deleting them from your blogroll?
Usually only when they die (the blogs that is :) )
Would you delete them from your reader and not your blogroll?
Not usually. I archive old blogs in feed reader, delete off blogroll.

    Teeth and Stuff

Rachel lost her first tooth tonight. She was a little freaked out by the blood. And knew G was the tooth fairy hehe. Very cool stuff.

So have had the boy up for the weekend.

Friday night we watched I, Robot and the beginning of The Terminator.

Saturday we went into town with Mum and went up Sydney Tower (Stu braved the heights!! :) ), and then did the OzTrek thingie which Stu didn't appreciate quite so much heh. We were actually up the tower for over two hours, and I took a coupla hundred photos.. :) Will post some soon. Saturday night we made these totally awesome homemade pizzas and watched the end of The Terminator.

Sunday was church and a quiet afternoon, and then to J&G's for dinner.

And then he was gone :(

Remind me I must show Stu the video of The Miracle.

Didn't want to get up today. Except that I woke up at 4:45 and couldn't get back to sleep, so gave up, got up and went to work.

Had a nice weekend with the boy. On Friday night made Stu watch Amelie, which he enjoyed, which I knew he would heh.

    Kribbie babies

Did a little food shopping on Saturday morning, then went down to Scotty's to give him Stu's ADSL router. My theory being that as soon as Stu didn't have a router, they'd activate his adsl. Scotty has adsl2 now, and got 1.7mbit download speeds - sweeeet! Had scrumptious lunch there, then went and visited Scotty's new block of land.

    The Block

Then a trip to Magnet Mart, where we could see the storm closing in

    Stormfront

Relaxed in the afternoon. Cooked a mini beef roast for dinner which was yummy.

After dinner we went out to a visit the partner of a colleague of Stu's, who has his own observatory in his backyard (he also has a *waycool* model collection). Because of all the rain and storms earlier in the evening, noone else turned up. In fact it was still raining when we arrived. So we didn't expect much. But at about 9:30 the clouds began to part and they fired up the telescope.

    Telescope

It was *totally awesome*. It's a 14" reflector, mounted in a shed with a powered roof. We looked at the Orion nebula, lots of star clusters, the tarantula nebula, a double star, and finally Saturn, which was spectacular, very clear (even through a very fogged up telescope), and you could even see a few of its moons. And because noone else came, Stu and I had as much time as we liked to look at things. Around 11 the clouds closed in again so we went inside and watch an episode of Cosmos. Consequently got home quite late.

Slept in Sunday morning, and had some "home-made" cheese kranski for breakfast. Sunday afternoon was spent making models (I finished a small jet on Saturday, and worked on my Batwing on Sunday). Later in the afternoon we went for a little walk, and had a look at one of the houses I'd found on my property searches. On the way saw some lovely little red-rumped parrots (Psephotus haematonotus)..

    Red-rumped parrots

.. and a pair of crimson rosellas ..

Then headed out to Yass for dinner which was very pleasant. And so another weekend came to an end.

On the way out of town, noticed the tower was all lit up so snapped a dodgy pic of it out the window (really should have stopped but someone was behind me).

    Golden Black Mountain Tower

The day at work was a bit of a waste. At least it was over fairly quickly.

    Bullet Point Monday

hey, Dave is doing it :) (go read that entry - the cartoon is hilarious, had me rotflmao :) )

  • spent most of Saturday throwing out my uni notes. Several trips to the recycling bin and it's *full* of my notes. Also some more school stuff. Culled eight very full boxes into two 3/4 filled boxes.

    Folder-go-round

  • some success at Freecycling things from the weekend. All my uni ring binders and stuff are promised, as well as a print that's been in the family for 30 years. And a student from my uni says she'll take a lot of my biochemistry/genetics text books, either for other students or the college library. Way cool!

  • upper with gmail is that it has a nifty api for mobile devices, which makes checking it on the blackberry awfully easy. My next phone is so going to have internet on it, even if it's not a blackberry.

  • downer with gmail is that you don't see your own posts to yahoo groups, because of it's "unique threading technology". Bah what a crock. So I never know if my posts have been approved to the groups until someone emails me.

  • Loverly dinner at Marylon's last night. Got a neato photo of fruitbats in flight on the way home

    fruitbat fruitbat

  • The handover of some of my roles at work is making me depressed. Specifically when P starts making messes of things and is reluctant to clean them up. All those years I worked to get things tidy is just going to go down the drain when I leave.. I can tell..

  • Went for an hour walk tonight, and yet still managed to get everything done that I wanted. Fairly happy about that. Although quite tired from being up in the middle of the night for an hour kicking the stoopid mail server :(

  • SAV in its wisdom decided that now, after twelve years of sitting on my computer, Trumpet Winsock containts "Hacktool.Nuker" and quarantined it. What a piece of crap software (SAV that is)!

  • Today's APOD is way cool, check it out

There we go, I think that's enough catchup for one night :)
