I have this really bad habit of opening tonnes and tonnes of tabs in various browser windows with links from Life Hacker and Boing Boing and blogs and such places.  As well as links that I open and use but then never close.  Of course then my computer starts chugging under the load.. oops...

So thought I'd clear a few out..

There's the eight year old Google search as seen on Blogography a while back.  Eight years ago I was still on the front page of Google for Kazza :)  Apparently this won't be around for very long.

I completely and utterly want one of these for Christmas.  And a licence to fly it.  And a maintenance crew to take care of it.  Ok I'd settle for going in one.  Hell even seeing one in the air would be nice...

I still have Beep Beep open in YouTube, and the lyrics, although these aren't quite correct.. I suppose I could look for more correct ones but that would require effort.

A useful tutorial I found on crontab when I was looking for the syntax for setting one up.  I've setup to download a snapshot of the Untersberg web cam three times a day to qualitatively see how often the mountain is in cloud.  And see the changing moods of the countryside.  I first saw some fresh snow there in late September, but that quickly melted.  There was a good covering a few days ago but that's melted too.  One of these years I'll get up that mountain - it's one of my missions in life!

Edit: Added The Atlas of the Real World, with pics here and here.
We did a roast lunch and had Scott and Kerry and Stu over.  So that was all very nice.  Had plenty of meat, but not enough veggies.. oops..

Waking up in the mornings is lovely at the moment.  We look at our window and see trees covered in cotton wool...

Cotton wool trees

I admire this tree the best, because it's flowering for its last time.  One of our bogan neighbours knocked it over with a skip or something a week or so ago.  It was just about to flower at the time and I was so sad for it.  But it didn't die and has been doing its best to get on with life.  I can't imagine it will be there next year though :(

Last flowers

I'd really like to see all this in Japan ...

Dave rocks!

I haven't had the energy to even download today's photos, so here's some of yesterday's...

The first bit of exciting news was the arrival this week of my Blogography package, consisting of t-shirts, a Try Evil cap, and ten (!!) packs of playing cards.

Blogography cards

I've been hanging out for these just to see what the stories were on them!  They're pretty sweet!

Blogography cards

Although the Queens with five o'clock shadows were somewhat disturbing!

Blogography cards

Even the backs of them are beautifully done

Apparently there were problems with the printing of them so I seem to have a couple of extra packs.  The pack I opened seems ok though.  I have a lifetime supply of playing cards too!  Ten packs for the price of the single pack we got at Frankfurt airport!

North

This photo was taken about as far north as I have ever been in my life.  65°55' approximately.  Just a teeny bit south of the Arctic Circle.  Yes, I Google Earthed my trans-siberian flight tonight.  And we did fly a lot further south on the return trip - nearly 500km further south!

oh, this was from last weekend, the poached pears with caramelised wine sauce.. delish!!

Poached pear
So the weekend started with dinner at the Hog's Breath cafe with Damien.  Much was discussed but primarily our honeymoon and his love life :)

Didn't do a whole lot yesterday, and then went out to dinner at Scott and Kerry's where much roast vegetation and a bit of chicken was enjoyed.

Today we went out to Gunning for lunch to celebrate Annie's birthday.

So quite a pleasant weekend.  Even did a bit of tidying, and worked on our honeymoon photos a bit.

Do I have to go back to work now?

In other news...

  • not looking forward to going back to work
  • neither is Stu.. (according to his intestines at least anyway)
  • 6500-odd photos downloaded off various media from the honeymoon
  • no ETA on when any will be online
  • our "life planning" list has way too many items on it
  • my ordinary todo list has way too many items on it
  • new bus timetable starts tomorrow, could be, er, interesting
  • realised (again) that this blog is thoroughly boring
  • watching a marriage breakdown remotely via the blogosphere, which is sad, but understandable given the crap that happened
  • knew Sam would win the biggest loser (his face looked *scrawny* on the finale!!) (yes, finally got to watch it, taped it as it was on telly two days after we left on our honeymoon).  Bit sad for Alison - she got soooo close!
  • our diet of sausage, meat, cheese and beer for a month resulted in a 0.7kg weight gain for me and a 2kg weight *loss* for Stu (!!).  We're still trying to figure it out, as we expected to pile weight on.
  • I wish I had time to read more blogs
  • (I wish I had time to do lots more things)

Had Natto and Andrew over last night for pizza and movies.  We watched Life of Brian first and then near the end of that "mawwiage" somehow came up and I said I think someone should say it at the wedding.  To which Andrew laughed but Natalie looked at me blankly.  And I'm all "You've never seen the Princess Bride!?!"  So we watched that afterwards and she liked it :)

Oh yeah..

.. and the frigging little sparrow has taken to hiding behind things, rather than trying to fly out the windows.  Which makes it nearly impossible to catch.  Wasted twenty minutes of my life this morning chasing the little bugger.
