Yesterday we had a pretty quiet morning. But it was such a lovely day we decided to go out to the club and try out our new caravan. So went out and enjoyed the sunshine, and had drinks and dinner with some of the other people there, then played some cards then went to bed. Turns out sleeping in a caravan is a lot more comfortable than sleeping in a tent! Who knew? We also managed to lock ourselves out of it within ten minutes of arriving. Thank goodness John was there with a spare key!

This morning after quite a long lie-in (it was freezing!) we got ready then helped out with some hazard reduction, as well as having some sausages for lunch.

Came home and called the parents, only to hear the bad news that the prognosis is not very good for Dad. So that made me pretty sad.
Did our food shopping then came home and found my betta, that I've only had for six weeks, had died. More sadness.
Then spent *ages* making up some lasagnas, only to have the sweetie eat a good chunk of my leftovers (mine had white sauce and lactose containing cheese). Blah.
Then lost it cause the house was a pigsty.
It's only 9:30pm, but it feels a lot later. Not sure how I'm going to be able to stay up..
My father took this photo in 1975. So I have been there. I was eighteen months old though so I don't remember it.
But it was just the spire that fell. So long as there aren't too many severe aftershocks, the thing could probably be restored.
Much sadder are the other scenes - entire office buildings that have collapsed, crushed cars, crushed buses, homes missing walls. Probably won't know the final death toll for weeks. Sad sad sad.
Hang in there Christchurch....
When I first started blogging in early 2003, I went looking for other bloggers to read. Just about the first one I found was
JC (his blog was called Harry Volts at the time). I've been reading his blog ever since (altho it's gone quiet of late) and his (now) wife
Bren's as well. So I read all about their cats, their wedding, their house and all the renovations and work they put into it, and their babies. As you would over eight years.
They lost their cats, but thankfully not their babies. All that work they did on the house.. all gone.. epic sadness...

I didn't blog anything particular for this year's blogiversary, which also
happened to be the fifteenth anniversary of the January 1994 bushfires that ripped through Como/Jannali. Those fires were closer to home (literally - about 300m away) and destroyed our church and several of our friend's houses, therefore having a massive impact on me to this day whenever I see bushfire images.
But only one person died there that day.
The
weekend bushfires in Victoria were epic sad.
135 lives lost so far. And that's sure to rise.
Kinda puts my crap day at work into perspective...
I really need to keep up to date .. Suddenly I'm three days behind :(
My year in review post didn't get put into the December archive entry. Flipping MT. Here it is in case you're reading the archives in future :)
New Years Eve during the day we went out for yum cha, then went down to the Nasho Park and went for a swim. It was very pleasant, although I did manage to burn the tops of my feet where I'd missed putting sunscreen on - oops. After a quick shower, we went over to James & George's to play games. First up, Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, which Josh won. I trailed badly for most of the game and it was all very frustrating, but then I got three wedges in the one single round and actually ended up in second position, go figure. Had a lovely bbq for dinner - you can never have too much bacon! hehe. Next we played Ticket to Ride Europe which James won, then Acronymia which James also won, and finally Up The River Down the River which I won. So that was all fun (if a bit stressful at times heh), and then we watched the midnight fireworks on telly (what happened to Mr Wilkins??) and went home.
New Years Day was rainy so we went out for brunch then came home and just spent some time together. And then he went home :( Sadness.
Dreaded going back to work. Spent all morning just trying to catch up on my inbox. Then tackled the two servers. One is on hold now waiting for the dude to get back to me. The other is on hold waiting for the network to be setup (it was supposed to be but isn't). I can sense much more pain to come with it though. <snip>
Can I go home now?
Had another lovely day with Stu today. Went to church, came home, then went for a walk and got Turkish pizza for lunch (a sucuklu, yumminess :) ). Came back and watched High Fidelity while a roast pork and potato bake cooked. And then it was time for Stu to go home. Sadness.
Here's some pics from the last few days..

The St Barnabas Broadway church...

and for reference, here's how it looked in 1870:

Lost two of the glass catfishes today. Or maybe last night and just didn't notice them. They were three years old. They turned opaque when they died.
Only three fish left in that tank now - two angels and a glass catfish. When I first started I had 29 fish in that tank.
It seems rather ironic that I run (or host rather) a forum on my particular fish tank, when I can't actually keep fish alive in it :(
I'm not submitting an entry for this week's Theme Thursday. This is because the most appropriate picture would be a self portrait of my sadness that ebay supports criminal activity, and not only refuses to help victims but blocks them from warning others. As George said, they are more than happy to take their cut in commissions, but refuse to accept any responsibility for any problems.
