B&B Reale - Ortona, Via Marina 25, 66026 Ortona, Italy
There's no taxis in Ortona, and there's no hotels right near the station which means you'd normally be in for a long walk up the hill. However the owner of the B&B very sweetly gave us a lift to and from the station which was fantastic! The room is quite spacious and clean and there's glimpses of the Adriatic from the windows. The bathroom is also clean and spacious and has an awesome shower (although if you're not careful it will leak a little!). The air conditioning worked well enough, although after a while it made a fairly loud crackling noise (wonder if it was icing up?). I let the owner know so hopefully that should be sorted soon. In between the three or four rooms in the B&B is a common area with tables and a fridge. It looks like he might be renovating the area to have a kitchenette, which would be awesome for future guests. Breakfast is a voucher to use at one of half a dozen local cafes, so that was good. My only complaint would be that we were charged 15 euros extra for separate beds (I was travelling with my mother so separate beds are more comfortable for us). When I booked through booking.com the choices were a double and a single, or a triple. I chose a triple, since two singles would be less linen to wash than a double and a single. I thought it was a little unfair to be charged extra when the room rate for those bedding options was set online. However, as noted, the owner did give us a lift to and from the station which more than made up for this issue.
