Day 6 - Monday 12 September - Oberammergau to Lucerne

Slept okish. Had a reasonably relaxed morning. Got ready and did photo stuff and blogging, then went down for a big breakfast downstairs.

We were ready to go about 09:00. But I couldn't figure out how to add waypoints on the car GPS, cause I'm dumb. So set the GPS for Landeck and off we went.

Crossed the border into Austria, bought a tollway vignette, and pretty much got hit with a massive traffic jam. Bumper to bumper traffic for probably an hour. We were already late leaving and I could see my time in Lucerne dripping away. Still, there were still some pretty views and perfect skies.

Got to Landeck, came in a way I wasn't expecting, missed the car park I wanted, couldn't go back because one way streets, and suddenly we were out of town heading south. Sigh. So more time wasted trying to turn around and figure out how to get where I wanted to go. Which was a little car park in town so I could get a photo of the bridge over the Inn River. Which I eventually got.

Heading out of Landeck we suddenly ended up on a tollway that the vignette didn't cover - had to pay 11 Euro extra to go through a 10km long tunnel. And miss the view. #grunt. But we were already so late I guess that was ok.

Realised the car has a Swiss vignette which is nice.

Next headed into Liechtenstein. Again via a way I wasn't expecting. But. Liechtenstein!! New country!! Stopped and had a quick look at the church before continuing on into Switzerland (four countries in one day! Epic!).

So late though.

Got to Lucerne, ended up parking in the wrong garage, doh. Probably will cost us about 4-5 CHF extra though so not too bad.

Got to our room and found it was just a double bed. So went back down to ask if there were any with two beds. Not in that hotel, but there were in the one next door. So went next door. A bit nicer room which was nice. Beds still very close though. And no cooling. By this time it was well after 17:00 and we hadn't eaten anything but Pringles since breakfast so I was hot and sweaty and hangry. Sigh. So had some chocolate and headed out.

Went to find the Wounded Lion first. Was off by a block so walked a lot further than we needed to (and cut into precious daylight).

Wandered past the cathedral and then down to the river to look at the bridges, and through the old town.

Decided it was too much effort to go climb the city walls and tower - it was already very late. So went looking for Stadtkeller. Which we found, but there was about to be live music and Mum didn't want the noise and we weren't sure about a cover charge either (they said not for eating, but there would be for drinking) so decided it was all too hard and left.

Went back down to the river where we'd seen a place doing fondue, so had fondue and salad and a beer and it was lovely.

Saw some of Lucerne by night which was also really nice.

Then back to the hotel. I was about to collapse, but really needed to wash some undies and a tshirt, so did that. Nearly 22:00 by the time we went to bed. Sigh.
