Day 30 - Thursday 6 October - Singapore

OMFG we slept all the way through til 8:21!!! Amazing.

Had a leisurely start getting ready, had an awesome breakfast downstairs (biggest range so far - British and Asian styles available), and got ourselves organised. It was nearly 12:00 when we finally checked out.

Next it was two trains over to Bayfront.

Next challenge: finding our way to hotel checkin. Seems easy enough, just exit the station to the hotel exit and go to the hotel. Ha. Found the station exit easily enough but then ended up in the bowels of the building trying to find the right escalator to take us to the hotel. Ended up at the Casino at one point. hrmm. But eventually found it.

Then had to queue up to checkin. Silly thing is, twenty minutes later there was no queue at all. Moving on. Checked in but it was still pretty early (13:00) so our room wasn't ready yet. So we went off to get organised (swap stuff out of bags, and Mum got changed) so we could leave our bags while we went for a wander. But while we were doing that I got an email that the room was ready! Hurray!

The view opening up was a bit spoiled though - first we could see the view from the lift well, so we knew what the view would be like, and when we got into our room the curtains were already open - missing the big reveal like we had last time. Oh well.

Dumped all our stuff then went upstairs to have a look at the pool. Which was closed. As was the observation deck. Lightning about. Sigh. There's a strobe light on top of the building indicating lightning, and when it's going, you can't go outside. Fair enough I supposed but the weather forecast was for scattered thunderstorms for the next day or so, so we worried about not getting to go in the pool at all.

Decided to go wander the Shoppes. Walked all up and down, found the Tim Ho Wan, and right above it there's a Din Tai Fung! We may have stopped at Tim Ho Wan for some crispy pork buns and pork rice rolls. Yummy.

The weather radar indicated the storm was easing off, just rain, so we decided to head up to the observation deck. If it was open, so the pool would be. Had a very quick walk around there because it was raining, and snapped a few photos on the phone.

Then we went back to our room, got changed, and had a swim in the rain.

Had a shower and got dressed then headed off again - into the Gardens by the Bay. Had a bit of a wander around there.

Decided to go up the Supertree Observatory. It was about 18:20 so we'd be able to see by daylight as well as by night if we stayed up there long enough. Couldn't get a ticket at the door, she's like, you have to buy online. Nicely the whole garden has free wifi (so does the entire Marina Bay Sands complex). So I tried, but couldn't get the site to accept my card details. So walked All The Way back to the Flower Dome to get tickets (we'd just been there). While queuing I kept fiddling with the site. Turns out the expiry date from my credit card had transferred funny when my phone scanned it. So got the tickets, left the queue, and raced back to the tree before it got too dark. hrmm. But it was a nice view and I got asked to take photos of three different groups of people haha.

Next we then had to rush back to the waterfront to see the 20:00 Spectra light/water show. Singapore doesn't like foreign pedestrians - it expects you to just *know* where all the pedestrian overpasses and underpasses are, which is super annoying if you don't know where they are and come up against dead ends at every turn. Hence the rush. But we made it with fifteen minutes to spare, which was good, because we got a spot on the railing. The show was ok, but pretty loud.

Headed back to the hotel to go to the skydeck by night. But most of the way back Mum realised my jacket had slipped off my bag. So we had to walk All The Way back to the waterfront to try and find it. Luckily we did, I would have been super sad to lose it.

More walking. Got up to the skydeck which was lovely. Even saw some of the 20:45 light show at the Supertree Grove.

Then All The Way back to the Shoppes to find dinner (it was after 21:00 by this point). Din Tai Fung closes at 21:30 so decided just to go to the food court. Had some cashew chicken and garlic pork from a Thai place which was quite nice.

Finally got back to the room, but it was too late and we were too tired to feel like going for a night swim. So I washed my hair and we collapsed into bed.
