So after getting to bed at midnight I actually got to sleep fairly quickly. Had to get up to pee but got back to sleep ok. Woke up about 06:30, same as Mum. Had some snackages from the plane while we took our time getting ready and I downloaded photos and blogged. We also looked at the weather and decided a long walk in the English Garden wouldn't be much fun in the rain, so decided to to see Residenz Museum - the palaces of the Bavarian Kings.
Had Scottish Restaurant at the station for brunch (it was like 10:00 by this point). But they don't seem to have a breakfast menu. So it really was brunch.
Then a wander through the "old" Botanic Gardens.

Then walked around and around Residenz trying to find an actual entrance. Seems like they really don't want your money because they sure don't make it easy to find. Eventually googled that crap.
So we eventually found the entrance and got a combo ticket for all three attractions.

The first is the Residenz Museum, which is the actual palaces. And they go on and on and up and down and round and round and there's like 90 rooms and it's EPIC!! They suggest two to three hours, and I'm sure we probably spent that there. It was a pretty impressive palace, and a shame chunks of it got destroyed during the war.

On our walk back out of the Residenz tour back to the entrance for the treasury, we walked past the church where they'd setup a condolence book for the Queen. We'd actually seen them setting up from a balcony in the Palace, and so we went in and Mum signed the book.

It was beer o'clock by this point so thought we'd go get a beer. I wanted to go to the Hofbräuhaus since I didn't last time, but it was full inside and it wasn't obvious from going outside whether there was table service or if you needed to go back into the bar (except there isn't one). So it was all a bit confusing. In the end we got someone's attention and he was like, oh there's no service for like fifteen minutes, so we were like WTF and left. The next place we went to had all their tables outside free. So we asked about sitting out there any where like oh you can drink at the bar but you can't take beer outside. WTF, no wonder they were empty. So went next door to the Dubliner and I had a couple beers and Mum had some orange juice.

Then we went for a wander back through the old town, which was somewhat going off on a Friday night. Popped into the cathedral but there was a service going on.

Then Mum wanted dinner so found a tourist trap restaurant near the western gate. We had a schnitty and salad which were both pretty average.
Walked past the fountain that the sweetie and I sat at on our honeymoon.

Didn't pass any convenience stores at all so still haven't gotten any proper snackages. Also haven't gotten any cash out yet. Also don't know what we're going to do for breakfast tomorrow as we need to be out the door pretty early. And there's no snackages. hrmmm.
Edit: Some other notes from the day.
After breakfast my hands were very sticky from the messy burger, so we went looking for any sort of bathroom in the Hauptbahnhof where I could wash my hands. After walking around for like ten minutes, we couldn't find any WC signs *anywhere*. Decided it would be quicker to walk back to the hotel and wash my hands there. So that's what we did.
At the Residenz palace they said my camera bag was too big and I'd have to cloak it. Which is ridiculous because it's *not* a big bag. It's only a bit larger than my last camera bag. So that was annoying and stressful and doesn't bode well for the rest of Europe. So I pulled out the big camera and had it around my neck, and had to carry the little one. As well as then having to hold the map and ticket. Stoopidly annoying.
The place we went to for dinner was on the main walkway in the old town, the kind with lots of tables out on the walkway. It had the vibe of tourist trap. But Mum was happy with the menu so we stayed. I watched a video on tourist trap restaurants in Italy that are much the same and sure the atmosphere is nice, but the food is pretty average. This was no exception. In fact the fries that came with the schnitzel literally came with a plastic mayo and plastic ketchup sachet. Silly really.
And finally, pretty much noone around here wears masks. No wonder they have one of the highest rates of covid in the world. I'm wearing mine pretty much all the time, even outside. Mum is being less careful. hrmmmm!
