Day 1 - Wednesday 7 September - Canberra to Sydney

So as you may have seen from my master blog, I've had no end of dramas trying to get seat allocations for our Sydney to Dubai leg (which is now tomorrow). Emirates a few weeks ago said they couldn't do anything until 48 hours out. And I'm like, but all the window seats will be gone by then. So today I got onto their web chat, and they were like, sorry can't do anything. WTF?? So I call Qantas (an hour on hold later) and they were like, we can't even see the seat plan. WTF?? What a bunch of morons (the airlines). How did it get to be 2022 and you can't allocate seats on codeshare flights???

Anyway.

Had a bit of a disjointed morning, couldn't really concentrate on much, feeling too panicky. At lunch time I signed off and finished getting ready. 14:00 and the sweetie dropped me into the city. I'm going to miss him SO MUCH!!!

Coach left at 15:01, almost right on time. Allocated seating on this one too which was different to last time. Got a window seat which was nice for views of Lake George almost right up to the road. Then I read my way through an english translation of the Passion Play. Got about three quarters of the way through it before I couldn't concentrate on it anymore.

Arrived at the domestic terminal at about 18:15, then headed over to the other side to catch the T-Bus - the free shuttle they now have between the domestic and international terminals. Their website said the pickup was outside the Virgin terminal. But after walking all the way over there, turns out they *also* pick up outside the Qantas terminal. So I could have just gone downstairs. Lame. Whatever.

Got to the hotel and checked in. Mum had arrived a little earlier than me so she was in the room. So grabbed her and then we headed over to the terminal to see if Emirates were open. They were, which was nice, I think it was the only checkin terminal with any humans there. So we asked about the flight tomorrow. No window seats left. Fricken sigh. I knew that would happen. Which really really sucks for a day time flight because I want to *see* the view.

Next time I think I'll fly Etihad.

Which I would have this time, if they'd actually been running any flights on the days I wanted.

Headed back to the hotel and we (I) had a light dinner at Smithy's (Mum had already eaten). I got the kids fried chicken which came with some nice fries and a salad and for $13.50 it was just the right sized meal for me.

We have to be up at stoopid o'clock tomorrow. So now we're going to have to fight over what time bed time is (I vote early hehe).
