In preparation for tomorrow's office move, I was cleaning out my desk/drawers of crap so I could file stuff I hadn't filed in months. I started with a filing cabinet drawer that had been accumulating stuff since 1997. Plenty of memories were dredged up about the various projects I've done over the years, server info, schools support, project work, network diagrams, web design, etc etc. Had a lot of fun giggling over some of the earlier work I did and had completely forgotten about, like a complete audit I did of the computers in a couple of the units we support. Not too many of those computers would even exist anymore.
We've chucked out a lot of old computers, mostly pentiums, but the odd PII as well. We dumped a whole stack of dead stuff outside our door in the hopes that someone would steal it. Noone has.
So I guess I'm not *completely* hopeless - as in my last post on the topic of throwing things out where I just couldn't do it - I actually chucked out a pretty decent percentage of the stuff I had in that drawer.
Still not looking forward to moving tomorrow though :(
Another mindless day patching computers
Two floors down, still many to go.
Couldn't get the key into the ignition this arvo.. the thingie inside had twisted around and gotten stuck. Fiddled and fiddled and eventually gave up and called the NRMA. They fiddled and got it unstuck, yippee. Decided it was a good time to book the car in for a service anyways :)
My party has been loosely organised, and people have agreed to turn up.. woohoo!! Not that it will be a big thing, just a few friends over to James and Georges for a dinner party.
Keeping myself busy .. at work patching computers against the latest exploit.. hanging around at cia.. shopping.. watching The Mole (flipping ran out of tape and missed the last 10 minutes >:( ) .. half watching tv and programming
Which means while I'm distracted I'm actually in quite a good mood. Whenever I stop though, things catch up with me. Like passing within 200m of *his* place on the way home and getting that rather sinking feeling.
Gonna go back to my perl.
I can't even do the simplest of perl programming. I can't for the life of me work out why almost identical code will work in one situation, but behave completely differently in another. Just figured out one part of it. Needed a slosh in the right place (as opposed to a slash). flipping
That and a madhouse day patching servers like crazy and setting up info so that staff can do it for themselves also. http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp has the potential to criple half (more than half actually) of the computers attached to the internet. So long as our servers are ok, then I can sit back and laugh at the ensuing chaos.
And there's only 14 days to go. Haven't decided what I want to do yet. Whatever I do, I'm sure only half a dozen people would turn up.
/me goes off to continue being depressed in private.

Another busy running around day today. Things achieved included:
* church
* looking for another computer desk to house the old junk computers I have floating around
* buying more bits for the new fish tank
* washing up
* dinner at Alan and Marylon's
feeling somewhat fizzy at the moment, looking forward to collapsing into bed :)

Well today marked the end of daylight savings, so all the clocks in the place need setting back an hour. So far the things I can think of that need changing are:
clock radio
watch
phone
pager x2
camera
kambrook timer on the fish tank lights
vcr x2
microwave
kitchen wall clock
The computers were quite happy to change themselves.
I tried to get some more photos of the fish this arvo. As per usual most didn't turn out, but I managed to get a fantastic photo of some of the neon tetras. Unfortunately you can't really see the vivid blue because the flash washes it out, but for once everything was in focus.
Luc and Liz and the kids came over to look at the fish today also, but the kids were more interested in all the space lego I have lying around.. oh well :)
