I wish I had *normal* parents. Instead I have these strange people that apparently I'm related to.

I was meant to meet them for dinner tonight at a local club to celebrate my mother's birthday tomorrow. We were meant to meet at 6. So I turn up at three minutes past six, and wait. And wait. And wait. Half past six comes round and I get this phone call from a mystery mobile. It's my mother. They've been at the club waiting since quarter past five. So she comes down and I sign into the club. But as it turns out, they've not only been there for well over an hour, but they've also started their meal. This was too much for me. Who in their right mind starts a meal at a restaurant without all the guests, when they know they're coming? And then, rather than coming with me to order my meal, she just says "go get your meal, we're on table 42". OK well this was the last straw. I may have been talked into staying until then, but as it was, I felt like I'd been abandoned, and I certainly didn't want to share a meal with these people, I was too upset.

See, now any *normal* person would have called to let me know they'd arrived early at the club (I wasn't far away, I could have been there shortly afterwards). Any *normal* person would have come to meet me at the agreed time in the only place we've ever met before. Any *normal* person would have waited for their guests to arrive before going and ordering their meal.

I am so pissed off >:( Two hours of my life wasted. What a suck way to end the weekend. And a pity because generally the rest of it was great. Even saw me little brother's new house down the 'Gong.

After the high of last night, and the busy morning this morning helping the Wise's clean up their back yard, it's now late in the afternoon and I'm totally lacking motivation. It's too late in the day to feel like starting any projects and too early to start watching videos. So I'm left with paranoid day dreaming, which is not helping one little bit. I need someone to rescue me from myself!

Here's a Friday Five at least:

1. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have?
Jump out of an aeroplane (with parachute attached, of course ;) )
2. When someone asks your opinion about a new haircut/outfit/etc, are you always honest?
Yes, buy my opinion doesn't count for much, since I'm pretty hopeless with that sort of thing
3. Have you ever found out something about a friend and then wished you hadn't? What happened?
dunno?
4. If you could live in any fictional world (from a book/movie/game/etc.) which would it be and why?
sheesh I don't know?
5. What's one talent/skill you don't have but always wanted?
Ability to play the piano

I just had a devastating thought. I'm going to be 30 in two months. And it's not that I'm going to be getting older (although there is that). It's just that it's my opinion in life that if a Christian is not married by the age of 30 then there must be something wrong with them. I hardly know any single Christians over the age of 30.

blah de blah

Had a nothing day today. Got my flat mostly tidied up tho, so I suppose that's a good start.

I'm watching Armageddon at the moment. It's an utterly ridiculous movie, but still a lot of fun. I was just thinking as they were launching the shuttles that it would be very cool to see a real life space shuttle launch.. but the chances of that happening any time soon are pretty remote. Nasa probably will go back into space eventually, but I suspect it will be a while yet.

1. What do you most want to be remembered for?
I aint going to be remembered for anything
2. What quotation best fits your outlook on life?
Are we there yet?
3. What single achievement are you most proud of in the past year?
Getting my fish tanks?
4. What about the past ten years?
urgh.. um..
5. If you were asked to give a child a single piece of advice to guide them through life, what would you say?
Don't stress (it doesn't work for me, but the theory is there)

Take 2

The Life of David Gale

I've always rather liked Kevin Spacey, so tonight I did a repeat performance of last night and trundled off to the movies. Tonight I saw "The Life of David Gale". It's a little cliched (sp?) but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tonight I was alone though. Going to the movies by yourself totally sux in my opinion. Yes I know, when you're actually watching a movie it doesn't matter if you're with anyone or not, cause it's not like you actually get to talk to them. But just being there and sitting by yourself is just depressing. For me anyway. And then afterwards the shopping centre was all shut down, so mild panic set in because I don't know my way around this shopping centre at all and I had to go outside and down a level and hope I could find my way back to where the car was parked. Stoopid shopping centres. Not as bad as your average hospital though - those things are like rabbit warrens, unless you've been given very specific instructions about where to go, it's rather easy to get lost in them. But I digress :) Bed time!

You know it's a little scary when your uncle who lives on the other side of the world finds your blog.. hehehe
well ok it's not that scary, he knew about the domain name when I first got it, maybe he went to it by chance? Maybe he'll respond to this post and tell me how he came by it :)

Barely anyone I know in real life knows about this blog. I've deliberately not told them about it. And I'm not really even sure why. It's not like I ever post anything earth shattering here. shrug

Anyways, must be about bed time. Gonna enjoy a lovely sleepin tomorrow.. unless the phone rings early of course..

1. Packrat or minimalist? I'm a packrat normally. I always get bagged out for carrying my backpack around with all the essentials in life - purse, girlie things, phone charger, spare batteries, pagers, keys, lip balm, memory card reader, software cds, more keys, diary, water bottle, camera, umbrella
2. Computer: desktop or laptop? Desktop
3. Seashore or mountains? Either one
4. Carpeting or bare floors? Carpets, definitely
5. Drinking water: bottled or tap? Tap
6. Shopping websites: eBay or Amazon? eBay
7. Cute little kitties or big scary tigers? kitties!
8. Front door or back door? In what context? :)
9. Lots of jewelry, or little/none? Little. I usually wear a standard pair of earrings and my favourite necklace that I got from my childhood sunday school teacher for my 21st birthday
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: At the last minute, you obtain tickets to an event you're dying to attend. However, you have to work that day! Do you ask the boss for the time off, or just call in sick?
I'd ask for the time off, and would almost certainly get it too; I love my job (and my boss), (well ok I don't completely love my job, but there are plenty of aspects of it that are *good things*)

New Tank

Was a totally perfect autumn day today. Not too hot, not too cold. A little rain storm that swept very quickly through the city to leave the sky scrubbed clean.

To the right is a photo of my new fish tank as of last night. I put the smallest danio in there tonight, and tomorrow I'll probably add the other small male so she doesn't get too lonely.

And now for a Friday Five:

1. Would you consider yourself an organized person? Why or why not?
In some ways I am. Like I hate clutter and like putting things in their proper places, although I'm happier to clean up other peoples' mess than my own - I'm too lazy to clean up after myself. In other ways I'm not though. Like I have yet to find a diary/calendaring system I can use. I organise most events in my life on memory. I don't have too much trouble with this, as generally my life is so uneventful it's not a problem.

2. Do you keep some type of planner, organizer, calendar, etc. with you, and do you use it regularly?
I have a filofax that almost never gets used. Before that I had an electronic organiser that almost never got used.

3. Would you say that your desk is organized right now?
Nope. Although plans for the weekend include organising it.

4. Do you alphabetize CDs, books, and DVDs, or does it not matter?
Not really. I try and categorise them though.

5. What's the hardest thing you've ever had to organize?
Other people I think

*Disclaimer* - Huge whinging rant following:

Well it started off with Sunday drivers starting early (you know the ones - happy to sit at 10km/h under the speed limit, causing you to miss lights etc), but they weren't too big a drama compared to the rest of the night.

The video night got moved to Stanmore, and Striker said he'd be there from 6pm, with videos to start at 8. So I rock up at 6:15 but he's not there. So I ring the doorbell anyway. No answer. Ring a couple more times. No answer. So I call Striker. "Keep ringing" he says, and he'll be there in 20 minutes. So I ring a few more times, but decide that I don't want to be standing around all by myself on a dark street at night, so I go back and sit in my car. Now without a book to read all I can do is listen to the radio, getting bored *out of my brain*. Minutes tick by. Tens of minutes. Eventually at 7:55 Striker, Alex and Wendy turn up. Of course by this stage my mind is numb and I'm thoroughly grumpy.

They spend a couple of minutes trying to contact the host of the video night. Door bell doesn't work. Phone doesn't work. Eventually they attract attention by yelling through a window.

So then we head down the back for fire twirling (which was the only good part of the whole night). I love fire twirling, I could watch it for hours. But the ground was wet so I had to stand there with my bag, cause noone asked if I wanted to dump my stuff inside. Continue to be stressed.

A bit before 8 we head inside, and order pizzas. The video decided on was "Angst" (sounds kind of appropriate somehow). I start to relax somewhat. Pizzas arrive, mine was a Parmagiana (sp?), which was *really good*. Then I tried to pour myself an orange juice. Trying to manipulate a two and a half litre bottle in one hand so I can hold a glass in the other. I squeezed tightly on it, and the orange juice literally exploded all over me. This was the last straw. After spending 10 minutes in the kitchen trying to dry myself off, I went back, picked up my things, and just left, in an attempt to avoid any more disasters. Of course as soon as I got to the car I completely lost it, and it took me the entire trip home to calm down. Now I just want to go to bed. 10:12pm on a Saturday night. Yay.

This or That:

1. Yummier: Chocolate ice cream or strawberry cheesecake?
Strawberry cheesecake
2. Better to watch on TV: Movies or sports?
Movies for sure! Sports? yuk! ;)
3. A better web browser: MSIE or Netscape (or tell us your own favorite!)
Well I'm against IE on principle, but I use it cause it's quicker to load. I used to use Netscape 3 until only very recently, as Netscape 4+ were just bloatware. And I also designed web pages for Netscape 3, cause I figured if they worked there they'd work anywhere
4. A better way to travel: Automobile or bus/train?
Depends where you're going. I'll drive just about anywhere unless it's difficult to get parking (eg the city)
5. Your preferred camera: Digital or film?
Digital
6. A Cooler Vehicle: Motorcycle or sports car?
Sports car (WRX specifically)
7. More fun: Video games or board games?
Probably board games
8. Sexier: A perfect body or an intelligent mind?
Intelligent mind
9. A stinkier smell: Skunk or gasoline (petrol)?
Never smelt a skunk
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: What is more important to you: making a ton of money and being at the top of your field, or finding your soulmate and living a comfortable but not wealthy life?
Finding a soulmate
