Day 13 - Sunday 26 November - Washington DC

Ok day today.

DC sux though.  It's such a dead city (at least on a Sunday).  Was walking around town this morning and *nothing* was open.

Also you can't walk more than a block or two without being kicked off the footpath and being told to walk on the other side of the road due to road works.  It's a dump.  Rather be in New York.

Took a bus from the motel down to 7th this morning and ended up in a really dumpy end of town.  Was going to get a bus over to M Street in Georgetown but didn't know where they went from.  There was nothing else to do so I walked the whole way.  And was terrified I was going to get mugged, because there was *noone* around.  The place was deserted.

Wandered around looking for an alarm clock (I'm going to need one to wake me up to get the airport in time tomorrow) and a pressie for Luc.  Got a battleship key ring for Luc, but no alarm clock.

Got a bus back into town and took some photos of buildings.

Went into the National Archives and saw the Magna Carta, Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights.

Went back to MCI Centre and got an el-cheapo "Made in China" alarm clock - that cost $8 USD ($16 AUD!!!) - plus tax!!.  Was very grumpy about that.  Got a bus back to the motel and watched Titanic on tv.  It was pretty funny watching Titanic to see all the bits they'd chopped out for the extremely prudish American audience.  Every swear word was censored out, as was the bit about the dogs pooing on deck, Rose giving Lovejoy the finger, and obviously you couldn't see any of her bits during the sketch scene.  And I'm pretty sure they'd chopped out other bits and pieces as well.

Pete also called tonight - he had dramas with his flight because he went to the wrong airport!  Doh!
