How was your day dear?: August 2014 Archives

Had a fairly quiet weekend.

Went out to the club on Friday night.  Attempted to go to bed early but it was still nearly 11pm by the time we turned lights out.

Spent Saturday morning doing crafty stuff.  Then a bit of socialising.  In bed by 8:15pm.

Caravan breakfast

Came home after breakfast this morning.

Foggy web

Had quite a productive afternoon.  Did some crafty stuff, vacuumed half the house, moved a desk into the "winter" hobby room, cleaned the kitchen somewhat.

Cooked a nice chicken roast with three cheese and bacon stuffing.  Yumm!

Then we watched Prisoner of Azkaban.

But I got hit with Sunday night depression/anxiety.  Hate hate hate Sunday nights.

I still haven't decided which lens to get.  I tried out work's 24-105 during the week.  While it's nice I really don't think it's *that* much better than my 18-135, which I much prefer the range on, especially for travelling.  I used the full zoom on that *all the time*, so to lose 20mm would suck.  Also, it's half the price of the L-series.  And the L-series weighs a fricken tonne (ok 670g vs 480g).  I've been stuck with this indecision for months.  But now I'm really running out of time to do something about it :(

So I had "Do you wanna build a snow man?" in my head all day Saturday.

Yup, I went to the snow.  But I didn't build a snowman.  I was too busy skiing.

Steve picked me up at 5:10am but then we had to go back a bit cause Ray had forgotten his snowboard boots.  Ski Co in Cooma was a bit crowded but got in and out fairly quickly since I had my paperwork from last time and said just get me the same stuff.  But maccas was too busy so I didn't get the breakfast I was counting on.  And I was starving.  And you shouldn't talk to me when I have low blood sugar like that.  Hmmmm.

I was almost too grumpy to take this photo of a fogbow.

But then we phoned through to Mountain Munchies in Jindabyne so I could order a big brekkie roll pickup.  So that worked well.  And it was it pretty good too.

Big brekkie roll

Hacked a few portals while trying to get through the bottleneck that is the intersection of Barry Way and Kosciuszko Road.  Still own them too, four days later.

So got to the snow around nineish.  Dumped my beanie and both jumpers in the car - it was that hot even before I started for the day.

I had a fantastic day.  Started at front valley then over to Blue Cow and did Pleasant Valley and Roller Coaster and Excelerator and the summit and then over to Guthega.  Had the longest wait of the day at the bottom of the Blue Calf T Bar, so didn't go back there.  But had a few great runs there, including a couple I'd never done before.  Was heading up Blue Cow T Bar for another run when it broke down.  Waited for a while there but then decided to give up on it and have lunch.  Had a pie at the little kiosk they'd setup at the top of the Car Park Double.  So then I was going to head to Freedom to get out, but the Blue Cow T opened up again so had another couple of runs there before heading all the way back to Perisher for Pretty Valley, Interceptor and Happy Valley.  At 4pm I could have met up with Steve and Ray or had another couple of runs, but my knees were starting to really ache.  I'm getting old!!  So we had a couple of beers and they went down a treat :)

Definitely felt like I had a lot more confidence this trip which was good.  Maybe I'll even tackle more runs on Mt P one day ..

This view of Mt Kosciuszko and the main ranges never gets old for me.  Love it.

My phone battery pretty much died by lunch time so no piccies in the afternoon.

I also carted the GPS around, but I'd forgotten to charge it from after my last Sydney trip.  So it started complaining of low battery at 1pm-ish.  But it soldiered on and made it til almost 4pm, finally conking out half way up my last t-bar.  I also realised I hadn't downloaded it from two Sydney trips.  It can hold quite a lot of data in memory!  Love that little thing.

Friday night (after several disasters at their end) Marc and Jo arrived in town for the weekend.  We chatted til quite late.

Saturday morning we went into town for some breakfast at Mocan and Green Grout.

And we also had got some tapioca and persimon.  The tapioca was nice but the persimon was a little tough.

I took a *lot* of photos of this dog trying to get one of him with his tongue out.  I got a few.

There was also a honeyeater that needed documenting

Marc and Jo went off to visit some other friends so we came home and chilled out, then went and did some food shopping.

We cooked up a *lot* of mushrooms (and had some leftover cause we bought too many) for Marc's strog

It was delicious!!

We put on Frozen after dinner while we chatted, then Rocky Horror.

In the morning Marc and I cooked up a storm for breakfast while various spouses dozed.  Bacon, eggs, hash browns, onions and mushrooms - yumm!

Mega breakfast

Then chillaxed and didn't do anything exciting.  They left later in the afternoon on Sunday.

Birthday breakfast was Maccas.  So sue me.

Then there was whiskey.  So much whiskey!

Even the sweetie came in for a while :)

Then we headed off to Bella Vista.

The sweetie had veal in a parmesan cup

And I had scallops

Sydney - August

Sunday I headed up to Sydney in time for a reunion of the people we went to Turkey with.  Chatted with some peoples and got to see Heather's photo books of our Israel/Jordan and Egypt trips.  They were spectacular, would love to get around to making some photos books ... one day ...

Then for dinner Aunty Di and Graham and Chrissie and Zac and Dave and Yvonne and Ben all came over to Mum's for a birthday dinner of takeaway chinese.

We showed Zac Bubble Butt, he kinda freaked out hehe

There's photos of me and a cake around somewhere, I really should find those :)

Monday was Peking Duck day with @StuartCRyan

Monday and Tuesday we continued the cleanup downstairs (and upstairs).

Anyone want any back issues of Silicon Chip or Electronics Australia?

Wednesday night I came home.

Mexican Train

Last night we went over to EffanC's place for cheese and dinner of some very yummy pizzas.

After dinner we played a few games of Mexican Train, which is played with dominos that go up to thirteen dots.  It was a fun game, will have to play it again some time.

Last weekend was quite busy in terms of socialising.

As mentioned previously, the Friday night we had Gaelian and Stef over.

Late Saturday afternoon we went over to Potty's to try and clean up his computer that was full of malware the kids had installed.

Pookie and the fish

Then we headed over to Mishi's for a games night.  Much chatting and eating and bit of game playing.  We played DC's logo game again which was fun, then started on Trivial Pursuit but gave up after Damien and Amanda got two pieces of pie, as the questions were quite hard and it was very slow going.

Sunday was lunch at Josh and Ally's with Andrea and GP.  Ally had cooked up some delicious food including a cassoulet!

Eggplant salad

I might have also helped the small person build one of her Lego sets.

We stayed all afternoon which was nice.

Then we came home and we watched Frozen that I'd borrowed off Miss M.

I don't really even have any interesting photos either.

Last Saturday was housework in the morning then headed out to the club.

Sunday we stopped in at Potty's to show him the new car.

Monday the little brother came over and stayed the night.  We had a tuna bake and watched Cities of the Underworld (Paris) which Dave thought was pretty cool because he'd actually *been* to not just the catacombs but also the stuff off the old disused train line.  We also started watching Total Recall but I didn't have the energy to stay up to the end of it.

Spent a good chunk of the week working through decommissioning stuff.  It takes just as much effort, if not more, than commissioning.  hrmm.

Thursday was bbq at @CLBradley's.

Friday we got Dumpling Inn takeaway and had Gaelian and Stef over.

We had a random cat show up last night too, meowing at the door.  It seemed a bit frightened.  It looked like it wanted to come in out of the cold but was a bit to scared to.  And when it did come in it wanted to go straight out again.  Had collars but couldn't find a name tag.  Hope it was all right.
