Neon Tetras

Well today marked the end of daylight savings, so all the clocks in the place need setting back an hour. So far the things I can think of that need changing are:

  • clock radio
  • watch
  • phone
  • pager x2
  • camera
  • kambrook timer on the fish tank lights
  • vcr x2
  • microwave
  • kitchen wall clock

The computers were quite happy to change themselves.

I tried to get some more photos of the fish this arvo. As per usual most didn't turn out, but I managed to get a fantastic photo of some of the neon tetras. Unfortunately you can't really see the vivid blue because the flash washes it out, but for once everything was in focus.

Luc and Liz and the kids came over to look at the fish today also, but the kids were more interested in all the space lego I have lying around.. oh well :)

  • Twice a day I walk past a bunch of grass plants that are currently flowering. They have these big fluffy seed heads which I take great delight in running my hand over as I walk past them (kinda like Russell Crowe in Gladiator only these are a lot softer). It's the little things like this that make life worthwhile sometimes :)

Saw a pretty cool website last night - FireArtFanatics - check out their photo page, it's awesome.

One of my recent hobbies (aside from collecting ancient space lego) is reading blogs at random. There's an awful lot of students blogging out there, and most bloggers tend to be American it seems. Every so often I find one that's mostly interesting, and the blogger blogs most days. These I'm adding to a list, and one of these days I'll link them on mine so I can easily read them every day. If by chance you're reading this and think your blog is interesting, let me know and I'll have a look :)

Oh yeah, linked to on one of the blogs I've started reading was wilwheaton.net. It took me a moment to realise that it was *the* Wil Wheaton from Star Trek (among other things). It's pretty cool - it's an ordinary blog and the website was done entirely by him, so you get an insight into a star's life that's not being pushed by marketing people. Worth a read.

    A few urls

With no other useful place than here

Firstly we have the Gulf War Drinking Game:
    http://www.gulfwardrinkinggame.com/

Then there's the Google Touch Graph. I'm not exactly sure how this works, but it does some pretty cool spider webs of links to a given url:
    http://www.touchgraph.com/TGGoogleBrowser.html

I had to shake my head at a customer email tonight. I'd love to post it, but chances are the person who wrote it would find this blog and go off (hey, it's happened). Essentially they didn't realise that an ODBC datasource name could be different to the name of the database they were trying to point it to. So when they had a different site with the same database name they wondered why they couldn't have the same datasource name .. *sigh*

I heard this read out on Triple M the other day then just happened to see it on a website I was reading:

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a single grade.

To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are anxiously waiting to meet.

To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who just missed the train.

To realize the value of ONE-SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.

To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Here's some of the search terms that brought people to my blog in February:

Number, Number of referrals, Percentage of referals, Search term
    1 87 43.50% kazza
    2 5 2.50% waterfall train disaster
    3 3 1.50% csiro sentinal
    4 3 1.50% kazza music
    5 3 1.50% my kazza
    6 3 1.50% photos of canberra
    7 2 1.00% avril lavinge wallpaper
    8 2 1.00% free top-up codes
    9 2 1.00% kambrook
    10 2 1.00% kazza cheat
    11 2 1.00% kazza children song
    12 2 1.00% kazza dvd
    13 2 1.00% kazza light

    17 2 1.00% waterfall tragedy
    18 2 1.00% www.kazza
    19 2 1.00% www.kazza music.com

(only keywords with two or more search referrals included)

It seems that kazaa losers are still the biggest visitors from search engine referrals *sigh*

    Funky Dell badge

When all else fails - blogideas.com
So ok, it's late, I'm tired, and I can't think of anything meaningful to blog about. So I try blogideas.com.
The idea of the day is:

Write a poem about your toothbrush.

yay. I think not. Even though it's just about time that I *should* be brushing my teeth, I really don't have any urge to write a poem about my toothbrush.

The funky Dell logo is the lighted badge on our new notes server at work. I took a bunch of photos of it today, and will make it the bootup background image.
