Butterfly Week

So it's been declared Butterfly Week over at the RiotACT.  I managed to capture a pic of one of the little buggers on Sunday morning and sent it in last night.  It made the front page today!  Squee!

Butterfly

Tonight when I came home from work I found one trapped in the garage.  So before capturing it and releasing it outside, I got it to pose for some photos :)  Will send these in as well.

More betterer

Not quite so many problems at work today, but I was pretty much a zombie (Sunday night's lack of sleep really catching up with me).  So don't think I was terribly productive.  So helped Neil stock the beer fridges heh.

A small storm blew over Canberra this afternoon.  It was around just long enough to get some photos on Belconnen Way and over the Southern Cross Club.

Better night tonight too.  Have spent some time sorting photos.  I really do take too many photos...

Macro goodness

Me little brother came over tonight.  He brought his camera equipment including some pretty funky lenses.

I might have had a little bit of fun with the macro one taking fish photos...

So yeah, camera seems ok, it's just my cheap lens that's very soft.  If only I could get an L-series 18-135mm and I'd be set...

Mini Minifigs

Over the next couple of weeks I'll be clearing out the 50-odd photos in my "to be blogged" folder.

These Lego minifigs came with Creationary that I got for my birthday.
Aren't the new teeny tiny minifigs cute? :)

Dam busters (part 2)

So I've actually been doing some other dam trips recently.  There was a trip to Googong last week, and Scrivener earlier in the week.

First up I thought it would be fun to compare Cotter Dam pics over the past two months.

Firstly, there's Cotter Dam in October, when things were flowing sedately, even after heavy rains in September.  Note the neat little walkway under the new steel bit of the dam.

Then there's last Sunday.  Lots of rain and overflow, and it seems the walkway has already been destroyed.

And finally yesterday.  I'm wondering how much of the new fill for the new dam wall is still there or has been washed away..

Cotter Dam
Googong Dam last week was at about 80% full.  Apparently it hit 100% yesterday.  I'll have to get back there soon!

And Scrivener earlier in the week was also pretty awesome

The majority of these pics are up on the RiotACT.  I think I'm five for five now (didn't post any of yesterday's pics).

One of Tony H's mates got these pics.. must have been earlier yesterday morning.. epic squee!!

Lots of fun!!!

Tried out Mario Kart online.  Fun, but not the same as playing with people in the same room.  Plus you don't get the bots to play against, and the power up thingies don't seem to be as good.

After being home for two months I have *finally* seen all my UK holiday photos.  All 12000 of them.  !

We accidentally killed a bird the other day.  There's a big tub outside that had filled with water over recent weeks.  The bird must have been trying to get a drink and slipped in and drowned.  Sad sad sad.

This is a fun watch to prove that nothing new ever happens in soap operas.

Got MRTG working again on the router and three pcs. Although the router did lose its config after we kicked it the other morning which was quite annoying.

I made the RiotACT with yesterday's pictures!

Tonight's Glee (Furt) started off a bit lame but the second half was pretty awesome.

And because blog posts seem a little empty without pics..  here's some dramatic clouds taken a month or so ago..

Some recent bird photos

A galah that let us get quite close to it..

Some crows in the Maccas car park.  They'd found a tub of "Big Mac Sauce" that they were enjoying.

One more sleep to go! (til I'm off oncall for another few weeks)

My name in lights?

Today at work Doc pointed out that my image of the storm clouds over Harrison (as blogged the other day) was on the RiotACT!!  I'd sent it the other day but didn't think it'd ever make it up!!  Should have taken DC's advice and sent in some of my dam photos.. maybe I still could, but it seems to be getting a bit late for it now..

Anyways.  If anyone happens to google me and finds this.. here's the full sized image..

(oh yeah, and squeeee!! :) )
I'm still pissed that iTunes lost all my Trip Journal GPS tracks.  The same backup/restore didn't wipe the iPhone "notes" I took during the trip, just the Trip Journal stuff.  I dread to think how many photos I took out the window of the car that I'll never be able to find now :(  Had a couple of beers at lunch at work yesterday which helped a little.  But not much.

Today was ok.  Built some Lego.  Read lots of news feeds.  Cleaned the kitchen.  Tried to sort out finances (with the intent to figure out how much our holiday cost us in the end).  Dreading doing tax return.

Watched Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone tonight.  Was epic cool to see all the been-there's we saw last month :)

Every time I think about my GPS tracks I get sad again .. *sigh*
