Backdating a week cause, well, I'm a slacker ;)

Sunday we watched the second episode of Lego Masters where everything when kaboom!  Fun times.

I remembered on Monday that I hadn't posted a funny I found in the new Lion King movie.  In the original movie during the song Hakuna Matata, Pumbaa sings "And I got downhearted, Every time that I .." and Timon cuts him off and says "Pumbaa not in front of the kids".  Well in the new one he actually sings "farted" which cracked me up ;)  Got my quota of UK photos labelled early, all the more time for the jigsaw!  Frustratingly slow though, because even if you know the *exact shaped piece* you still have to search through hundreds and hundreds of pieces to find it.  Also started season 10 of BBT.

This was on my walk on Monday.  I'm bribing these guys not to swoop me come spring time ;)

Magpie bribing

Tuesday I worked from home in the morning, then went into the city with the sweetie.  We had lunch at Gus's which was really nice (both being able to go out and share a meal with the sweetie, and lunch wasn't bad either ;) ).

Gus's chicken and chorizo paella

Gus's salt and pepper calamari

Went to the sweetie's doctor's appointment, then chucked one in for me as well.  Went into work for a bit in the afternoon while I waited for the sweetie to do stuff at his office.  They'd just put a sticker on "my" desk saying don't sit there.  The disadvantage of hotdesking (with TINY desks) is you don't get proper social distancing.  So whateves - whilever that sticker is on my desk I'll continue working from home.  So being "at work" for the afternoon meant that I really didn't feel like cooking when I got home.  So the sweetie got pizza.  Hrmmm.  The sweetie and I are relishing our time at home and working from home.  We'd very happily never go into the office again.  Of course we'd be even happier just being hermits and having a quiet life and not ever having to deal with people :)

Wednesday was too cold and miserable for a walk at lunch.  And crazy crazy busy.  And too much stoopid.  Wasn't til after 5pm that I could actually leave all the busyness and get stuck into prep work I really needed to do for Saturday.  For dinner I cooked the last of the leftover pork from the weekend with the last of a cabbage that I bought like six weeks ago, a sausage from the other night, a handful of green beens and the last of the pork jelly.  It was a pretty random meal but tasty enough and used up a bunch of stuff in the fridge.  And there was even leftovers for David!  That morning I scanned 28 of Dad's slides, and in the evening got up to 1094 photos labelled from UK 2010.  Nothing on the jigsaw though.

Thursday was chicken kiev for dinner (since we'd already had pizza this week).  And watched Lego Masters episode 3.

Autumn leaves

Stumpy's blue tongue

Friday hurty kept me awake from 12:30 to 3:00 so was pretty tired all day Friday.  Although I did manage to finish scanning a third box of Dad's slides for the week.

Saturday I was at work all day watching graphs during some DDoS testing.  Stu made pea and ham soup for dinner from a soup packet mix I got from Chris's last year some time. I actually liked it better because it had chunky bits in it that didn't all just disintegrate like the peas do.  Watched more Lego Masters.

I think Tassie is a little out of scale...

Sunday I alternated between the jigsaw and housework.  Had Rob and Lynn over for roast lamb for dinner which was nice.

Monday morning I actually scanned a whole box of 36 of Dad's slides all before work.  I still wonder if I should have (or should) invest in a slide scanner.  Rob and Lynn said they did and managed to get through thousands of slides in just a few weeks.  Dad actually did, and I have it downstairs, but I haven't really played with it and not sure how good it is (or how fast it is).  I'm actually really happy with the results that I'm getting from the scanner Stu got me for Christmas in 2005.  It's slow, sure, but the quality seems pretty good (to me).  And if I continue to scan a box a day I'll be done by Christmas.....!  In the evening I did another 200 UK photos.  All of them in Japan.  hrmm :)   Also roasted a couple of trays of potatoes to have with the leftover lamb.

And that's up til then.  No movies to quote though for the blog subject.  Guess I'll just have to use one from last week ;)

So last Sunday night was epic lasagna night with Lana's recipe.

So awesome!  Although baking dish doesn't *quite* fit into the new oven! :(  Had to tilt it slightly.

I didn't have the energy for greenery, but we did have greenery with the leftovers ;)

Monday David went home for the week - his knee had been giving him grief for a week.  Maybe gout from all the tomatoes I've been feeding him recently??  hrmmmm.  It was a glorious autumn day and went for a walk at lunch (I've been going for walks most days, and the weather for the most part has been amazing lately).  I've also been getting through the lemon "tea" (just flavoured sugar) I got in Turkey in 2014, having it in our pretty Cunard tea cups we got for Christmas on our last cruise.

Last of the chrysanthemums

I also started the next section of the Disney Behemoth jigsaw - The Little Mermaid section, and got stuck into labelling UK 2010 photos.

Thursday morning I finished scanning roll 21 of Dad's slides - that was three boxes in one week!  Epic!  At lunch I cut up some potatoes to dry out for the afternoon, so that we could pretend to be a bit healthy and have potato wedges instead of pizza for dinner.  Then we watched the CGI Lion King.  Gosh CGI is amazing these days.  The movie was *very* similar to the original, some things were shot for shot exactly the same.  It wasn't quite the same without Jeremy Irons and Rowan Atkinson, although John Oliver was ok.

Friday Stu had an appointment so dropped me at work so I could copy and clear everything off my old laptop so I could give it back.

Cirrus is coming along slowly.  Much *much* slower than Geocon.  I can't help thinking these are likely to be better quality than Geocon, as it seems like they're taking their time to do things properly.  Who knows..
Cirrus Belconnen

In the evening the sweetie had a hankering for Crust.  So much for a pizza free week! ;)  Then we watched the original Lion King because the sweetie had never actually seen it!!  *gasp*   If I'd known that we could have watched the original first.

Saturday I spent the entire day alternating between the jigsaw and cleaning the house, with a little computer time in the mix as well.  In the evening EffanC came over - first time we've had anyone over for dinner in months!  (good incentive to clean the house!)   We had bubbles and cheese, epic roast pork and potato bake with veggies, Gluhwein and cinnamon scrolls for dessert that F made.  A lovely evening.

Wine and cheese

I didn't get a photo of the pork, whoops!
Gluhwein and potato bake

I'm super lazy with the gluhwein - rather than fussing about with the stove or slow cooker, I just nuke it.  A whole bottle will fit into four glasses, and I microwaved for about three minutes.

Today I pretty much just did the jigsaw all day, and watched stuff on the internet.  Nice lazy day :)

Thursday last week I went into work to get myself a flu vaccination.  Most of our team did the same thing so I took a Yum! Delicious! cake to share.  First step was getting a parking spot.  The mall carpark was full.  ?!?!  I was like WTF Canberra??  Why aren't you all at home?? But as it turns out the mall parking is free at the moment.  So anyone still working in the area is parking there.  Anyways, got my new laptop (I'll need to go in soon to transfer some of my personal stuff off the old one, both are still in my locker cause I just use my home computer to connect), got my jab, then packed up and headed to the mall.  I needed to go to the chemist for supplies, and to Coles for some food supplies, and the post office to post a web cam to Mum, and Dan's to pick up some wine boxes so we can fill them with books to give away (one day...), and then pick up some lunch.  The mall is probably open about 50%.  And the food court much the same.  And they've taken away or blocked off all the seating throughout the mall.  Picked up Ali Baba for the sweetie and Subway for me, then headed home.  An hour and a half later.  Sheesh.  And even though it had been over a month since I'd been there, the lady at Subway remembered my order :)  Watched Naked Gun in the evening, which I don't think I've ever seen.  OK I lied, I saw at least one of them in Junee in 2015.

This the process of making the Yum! Delicious! cake.  Recipe here.  Because my life and blog are so boring all I post is photos of food.  Hi Manish!

It rained Thursday afternoon.  And there were rainbows!

We did more rearranging of stuff in Stu's study this week too.  I pulled out my paper craft to take downstairs, and OMFG!  It's a disaster!!  This paper ball had been in the one position for nearly two years, and it had sagged!!  Sadmaking.  Will have to try and fix it.. somehow..

Slept pretty well on Thursday night with medical assistance.  Dragged the sweetie out for a walk at lunch.

Friday night I couldn't get to sleep for hours, but still woke up at the normal time (at least no insomnia *during* the night), so pretty cranky Saturday morning.  Did lots of house type stuff in the morning.  Went for a walk up Mt Rogers with David in the afternoon.  Stu put on several episodes of Picard for David to watch.  I do enjoy the show but it's all a bit too complicated.  Well not even that, it's just that you're expected to remember the significance of something that was said a full two episodes later.  With my dementia I'm lucky to remember anything past the end of the show.  So seeing the episodes again means things make a whole lot more sense.

Had an early night Saturday and actually slept well.  Fricken hurrah.  So rare these days.  And the sweetie cleaned the toilets.  Bestest sweetie ever!!  Did an epic lamb roast for dinner.

Mornday morning I woke up at 1:10am and never got back to sleep.  Literally five hours of just lying there feeling miserable.  So zombie day Monday.  Too tired in the evening to concentrate on any photo processing, so just blogged and did the jigsaw.

Went to bed early Monday night, read for a little while, tried going to sleep around 9pm.  But couldn't get to sleep for like an hour and a half.  Woke up at 2:45 and was awake for at least two hours.  Too tired in the evening to concentrate on any photo processing, so just did the jigsaw.  Bed at eight thirty.

Tuesday night.  You'd think after two nights of very little sleep that I would fall asleep quickly.  But no.  Took ages to get sleep and then really restless til like midnight.  Sigh.  This insomnia is killing me.

Cranky day today.  Too much stoopid.  Then other people breaking things that I couldn't figure out how to fix.

So yeah, pretty crap week all up.

After the January 1994 bushfires, the powers that be realised that oops, emergency service vehicles couldn't get across the Woronora River in an emergency because it was such a narrow windy road down to the bridge and got super congested when people were trying to flee fires.  So they finally finally built a new one.

I took these photos of its construction twenty years ago today.

Just a fun couple of photos.

The first was taken by my Dad in 1976 (I scanned the slide this morning).

The second was taken by me in 2016.

Edit: I've added one from July 1990 to the middle!  Excuse my ugly mug, I was trying to frame it the same as the others ;)

Edit 2: I've added another one from about May 1968 .. !

Edit 3: Another one from Dad from 1973, and one from David from 1991

Yowies

Twenty years ago today I took photos of all my Yowies setup on the buffet.  I collected I think the first three or four "series" and had some of the specials as well.  They were pretty cool.  Wonder if they're worth anything now...

Last Tuesday morning I started scanning Dad's slides. There's about 7000 of them. I'm aiming for one box of 36 a week (more if I'm not too busy), which should mean I could get it all done in about four years. If I don't die of Covid-19 first. I had a play with the dust and scratch filter and it pretty much works like magic. I should have used it on Mum's slides. Oh well. I'm still impressed how well my 14 year old scanner works (Christmas present from the sweetie in 2005). Tuesday evening was washing, blogging, Lego sorting, geotagging (some of Day 3 of USA 2004 trip). I also started to try and figure out the catalog numbers for the hundreds of Vic's minifigs, and what sets they go in. He sure has a lot that don't belong to any particular set he had, so he must have gotten large quantities of loose Lego not in sets.

Wednesday evening the sweetie took me out to dinner because he's the best sweetie ever.  Went to Kinn Thai and had softshelled crab again, and orange duck.  Yumm.  Then more Lego and minifig sorting and finished geotagging day 3.

It rained during the week.  A lot.  Looky at this - the new Belconnen swimming pool they dug out the past couple of weeks!

Thursday was Gin night. Four of them tasted like, well, gin. One was a bit more interesting. And there were two flavoured ones - shiraz, and earl grey. They looked, smelt and tasted of those respective drinks. Cool stuff. Well the shiraz one was, the Earl Grey tasted like tea. We had F over for pizza and tv after.

Friday evening I had to work. My work was only about a minutes' worth, but I stuck around in case they needed my help with anything (or if I'd missed a firewall rule somewhere). Bailed at 11pm.

Saturday I checked in at work and everything seemed to be going ok. So midmorning we headed down the coast (via Belco to pick up a present for Pete). The blackened bush started at Nerriga (most of the town was saved) and stayed black the entire way to the coast. Absolutely heartbreaking. It was actually amazing to see just how much property had been saved though. In places it was completely burnt bush all around, and in the middle there would be a house intact. Amazing job done by all involved, especially the firies.

And because it's Australia, you have bushfires one week, raging floods the next.

We headed straight for Huskisson and went to the beach briefly because, coast.

Then had some lunch, picked up some supplies, then headed for Kit's. Their place was basically completely surrounded by fires, but their street was saved.  At Bewong it looked like the firies stood on the highway and said "you shall not pass" ..

Bewong fires

We setup the house then waited for Pete to get home. It wasn't a complete surprise because his mum spilled the beans, but he was expecting just his sister and maybe a couple of his local mates, but instead he got a small crowd so that was pretty cool :) So yeah nice party, and only one tantrum haha.

We had dessert first.  Because that's what adulting is all about.

I was up at normal time the next morning, but then had to wait hours for everyone else. Eventually Kit got up and I could copy all the wedding videos for them. Had some brunch, then we headed home.

Was too tired to do much Sunday arvo/evening so just had a quiet one and an early night.

Monday it was full steam ahead rearranging the house. Stu had been wanting some study space for quite a while. He tried setting up a space downstairs last year but he never really liked it. So we emptied out the dumping ground room, brought up the couch and swapped the tables around. It took all day. And now everything from the room is spread all around the house. Which is stressful in itself. hrmmm.

We also went out at lunch to do our food shopping.  We hadn't been in three weeks so we were pretty bare.  Of course the empty shelves were something to behold.  No toilet paper, almost no tissues or paper towel (people thinking they could use that instead of toilet paper??).  Very little rice, pasta and long life milk, no flour.  Just madness.

Cooked curried sausages for dinner (to use up some of the curry powder that's been sitting in the spice cupboard for ten years or more).  They were pretty good.  I'll put the recipe separately, because I have this feeling I'll be using it again heh.

Tuesday woke up at 1:30 with hurty and never got back to sleep :( So zombie day Tuesday. It took about 14 goes of disconnecting and reconnecting my phone on Tuesday night to download the seven videos I'd taken at the party. Fricken HATE Apple.

Wednesday we finished season 6 of Big Bang Theory - half way through!

Tonight I've been watching the 1970 Ned Kelly which I've never actually seen.  There's not much on IMDB about it, but it does note it was filmed in Braidwood, and look at that!  So it was!  Fifty years later and all the buildings are still there (screenshots from the movie and Google Street View).  Enjoyed it more than My Brilliant Career.

I brought some glow sticks home from the party.  Six days later and they're still actually glowing.  !!   Although very faint now.  The first couple of nights the phone could still take pretty decent photos of them.

Wednesday I was just about to start eating lunch when Ben came over and said hi, so had lunch with him and Sarah which was nice.  In the evening geotagged day 1 of our USA 2004 trip.  The flights I'd done in Google Earth back in the day, so it wasn't too much effort.

Watched the first few episodes of the Mandalorian again so David could see them.

Friday I took a Random Day Off and basically just tried to figure out what Lego sets Vic had by the pieces I had for things.  Picked up the sweetie from the airport in the evening.

Saturday morning went mountain climbing.

Balloons over Belco

Did a bit of house stuff in the morning then we headed out to the club.  I spent some time finally finishing writing up my 2019 year in review.  Then it was happy hour and an epic Mexican feast.

Sunday was house stuff, jigsaw, geotagging and Lego.  Geotagging photos from moving cars is a whole lot harder than those taken walking around in cities.  Just sayin'.

Also this week one of Stu's living stones flowered!

Didn't end up doing any food shopping.  We're going to make do with what's in the freezer.

Tonight I downloaded, processed and blogged all my photos for the week in a mere half an hour!

Wednesday.  Bit of a disaster at work due to some expired certificates (that were so deeply hidden they don't show up in the browser, so took a while to troubleshoot and fix).

Thursday had Thirsty Thursday with Kit and Pete and had a game of Kismet (Kit won).  We were going to try Skip Bo but it would have been too complicated.

Friday I finally watched Toy Story 4.  It sure does look stunning.  Not quite entirely convinced by the ending.

Saturday morning in at work to do some maintenance, but got screwed over by someone hard coding something where hard coding was never even needed, and hadn't been done in test, which I'd done prior, and so took me (and Con) ages to figure out.  Not happy Jan.  So spent the entire morning there.  Afternoon just housework and stuff on the todo list.  In the evening I watched both versions of Dumbo.  I haven't seen the original in *years*.  The remake actually follows the original relatively closely, with the addition of people that help him learn to fly instead of a mouse (who you still see a hint of).  Except they didn't get him drunk for pink elephants on parade, they did it with bubbles, which was pretty cool.  Then it keeps going to see what might have happened next.  As I was watching I was thinking it sounded a bit like Danny Elfman.  And there was Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito who were together in Batman Returns.  And then at the end it's like, directed by Tim Burton, and it all fell into place :)

Sunday was just doing stuff on the todo list.  In the evening I watched the 1999 Kathy Bates version of Annie.  And cooked an epic lamb roast.  Which I had to myself.  With epic leftovers.

Monday was USA 2004 photo processing.

The rhododendron really suffered this summer.  It's having a quick catchup now.

Tonight was taking the geodata I did in Google Earth in probably 2005 or 2006 and translating that into geotagged files.  I'd located a bunch of photos from the flights, and had done selected photos from half of the trip, so that'll give me a good head start for geotagging the rest.  It's going to be a lot harder than the 2000 trip, because there were a lot of out and about photos, photos on walking trails, photos taking from moving cars etc.  Road trips are a lot harder than walking around in cities!
