Cause I'll never remember them next time.

  • SNMP is part of add/remove programs or whatever the equivalent is in Vista
  • SNMP is configured through the services control panel
  • You have allow computers you want to connect to SNMP in the security tab of the SNMP service properties
  • You have to allow your firewall software to allow the connection from the other computer (in my firewall this was in at least two places grrrr)

Hot!!

I mean seriously, how hot was it today??

Met up with Tom tonight (who Stu met on the interwebs) at King O'Malley's after work.. and he met his friend Matt and it was all very pleasant after a couple of drinks :) Will probably see him again.. he's kinda quiet and is studying forensics and works with autistic kids, and yet is not much into computers heh :)

Came home and got straight into the pool... :)

Back!!

We finally got the internet connected today.  Which is wonderful.  A little slow though.. probably noise on the extension that brings it closer to the computers.  Yet to be fiddled with.

One of the first things that my myriad of browser windows reloaded with was this.. snow on Untersberg!!

Untersberg with snow!

Stu asked me tonight what I'd see in the Mirror of Erised.  The first thing that came to mind was a quiet but happy life with my sweetie, on our computers, doing our own things but still together in a life of domestic bliss.

So there.  :)

(Gonna need more John Williams at the reception.. :) )

Earth Hour

Did the Earth Hour thing again last night.  Well sort of.  Forgot til about 8:20, oops :)

Just turned off lights, leaving on the computers to see by. Also turned off all the fish tank stuff for an hour, which had the effect of putting the timers back an hour a week early, so at least I won't have to reset those next weekend!

So is it true that candles produce more greenhouse gases than low-energy light bulbs?  That'd be funny in a tragic sort of a way ..!  (we didn't use any candles)

Very pleasant day today.

Chay dumped dropped the kids off at her mum's and we went over to Ascot provisions for brunch. Six cheese kranskys, eight eggs and assorted other breakfast fare was much enjoyed by all.

Then we wandered into the valley to buy coffee at Merlot's, and go look at the fishies. Of course the car smelled of coffee for the rest of the day. hrmm.

Next we had another go at dropping by AFK. This time Willett was there so we got to have a wander around. The place looks really cool, Stu is tempted to fly back up for the opening :)

After that we dropped in to visit Javaira and Suburban Hen, and the six of us had a lovely impromptu bloggers meetup (aside from the fact that David doesn't blog, but we won't mention that :) ). Next time Stu and I are up Chay wants to invite them all out here for dinner. Should be chaotic but fun lol :)

Stopped at Maccas for "lunch" aka afternoon tea (for those of us that were still full from breakfast heh).

Finally back here. Chay got some cool tshirts, wanted me to mention them :) She got them from Kid Pirate. I think my favourite is this one. Or this one.

Blogging now because they're planning on getting me drunk again tonight .. and I suspect I won't really be up to blogging later hehe.

SAV Sux

Spent the entire day attempting to remove viruses and upgrade SAV on people's computers. Only to have the updated scanners pick up even more spyware nonsense lurking around. Tomorrow is going to be no better I can tell...

So this worm went round today. And hit all the computers that hadn't been updated to the latest and greatest version of SAV. So about 5% of our computers. Most annoying. And NO communication whatsoever from the Service Desk about what it might be, who else had been affected.. nothing! Just had to muddle our own way through it. Then tonight they finally sent round a link to the latest patch. Except it doesn't work unless you have a least the 10.1.5 baseline install. Which isn't vulnerable it seems. Yay. Thanks guys.

So anyway, that actually was a bit of fun in what otherwise would have been rather a boring day. That and playing removalist this morning trying to get a lab setup.

  • Had to go back to work today. A thoroughly depressing thought after such a lovely weekend. But instead of reading, I decided to *do*.. and setup a little active directory domain on some old computers, with dhcp and everything. Tomorrow I will turn on firewalls and watch to see what breaks..... heh

Came home and got a few bits and pieces done, although not any unpacking, which was the only thing I actually had planned to do tonight. Oops. But I did get last week's washing put away, does that count..? :)

Am feeling like I'm having an immune response. Lots of sick people at work. Worried I'm coming down with something. Took a C/echinacea/Zinc/Garlic tablet and will have some more tomorrow... and an early night tonight....
