Tired

| | Comments (0)

Last night was a birthday party for Ben at Shogun which was nice, except for when the dude missed my mouth and the egg landed on my finger and burnt it :(  Otherwise a nice night.  Then a bunch of us headed back to Kit's for a few drinks which was also a bit of fun.

Today I spent most of the day at Christine's helping her paint cupboards and doors, mount doors, move tallboys, wash up etc.  It makes me tired just thinking about how much work she has to do in the next couple of weeks.

Tonight the sweetie cooked dinner and I started dismantling Zac's Lego.

We also watched William Shatner's 2011 documentary "The Captains" which was kinda cool.  And more Star Trek.  We're half way through season two now.  Tonight's episode was *yet another* episode where the mission seems to be "to seek out new life and destroy it".  Honestly at least every second episode (maybe more) they find some new life and destroy it.  Craziness.

Catching Up

Yeah so sorry for the photo spam.  Yeah no I'm not.

Chris and Zac came up tonight to look at all the Lego laid out.  I still need to properly document it before pulling it all apart again.  But with that all done, I suddenly found myself with some free time which I've been using to get some photos onto the blog.  Because Movable Type is so painful for uploading photos I decided to not add them as assets, but do what I normally do for holiday photos - just upload them to the directory and use my perl scripts to generate the html.  Made it a lot quicker, hence why I did so many at once.

Hanging out for Thursday .. it's been a .. well .. a week ..

In early April I went with David and Kat to the airport open day.  The trick to avoid the worst of the queues is to pick one plane that you want to see, and go see that as soon as it opens.  This year we decided on the Qantas 737 done up in retro livery.  Then we did the tarmac tour, and then just wandered around all the planes before having to race home to meet Graham and Pam who had come to stay.

I might have taken nearly eight hundred photos.  Oops.

I actually went to the Balloon Fiesta twice this year.  Once with Chrissie, after having had not much sleep on account of hurty, and once after dropping Luc off at the airport after having not much sleep on account of insomnia.

2016 Canberra Show

Back in February Chrissie and I went to the Canberra Show.  Zac was going to come.  Then he wasn't.  Then he was.  Then he wasn't.  It was all a little bit silly really.  So it ended up just being Chris and me.  We had a pretty good day.  Did 16000 steps and were on our feet for like seven hours.  Had a kransky and cider at Zierholz for lunch which was nice.  And there was potato on a stick!  Fun times.

Sydney Icons in Lego

| | Comments (0)

Waaaay back in January, immediately after seeing Nathan Sawaya's Art of the Brick, I took a train (it was free. and it was hot.) from Central to Circular Quay, had a quick bite to eat, hacked some portals and went to the Museum of Sydney to see Sydney Icons in Lego, by Ryan McNaught.  It was a bit of a strange exhibition in that as well as the Lego displays (which were awesome), there was thousands of Lego bricks to play with. So while each session was an hour, most of the kids took a quick look at the displays then started playing with the Lego.  I just tried to get photos, which sometimes proved difficult with lots of kids heads in the way.

Survivor

| | Comments (0)

I started watching the American Survivor from the very first series and watched it for years.  But I gave up watching in recent years because it was all a bit repetetive.  But when the Australian one came along, I started watching it while Stu was away.  After he got back it was still cold downstairs so I watched it upstairs and Stu actually got hooked as well (mwooahaha).  He quite liked Kristie (as did I) but I really didn't think she had a chance of winning.  But she did!  Totally beat all the odds.  Well done Kristie! #survivorAU

Cool

Oh did I mention we got evaporative cooling installed during the week?  Should make summers here a *lot* more bearable.

Tonight I finally finished building all Zac's Lego sets.  Fun times.  Now to document it all..

Other weekend stuff included watching Top Gun on Friday night and Star Trek First Contact on Saturday night (we'd just watched Metamorphosis with Zefram Cochrane so were inspired), as well as repotting some of my plants that needed some love.

The other weekend I patched and rebooted my computer, as you do.

Except afterwards a whole stack of crap got broken or went weird.

I lost Irfanview from the right-click open-with.  Had to go select the application again to get it to remember it.

It changed all my window bars from blue to magenta.  Even tho it was still set to blue in the settings.  Changed it and changed it back again and it came good.

It finally killed all my scheduled tasks.  Ever since upgrading to Windows 10, the scheduled tasks I have that pop up reminders to do things at certain times/days stopped being listed in the Task Scheduler, and gave me errors any time I tried to open it.  The tasks all still worked but I just couldn't see or edit them.  Well after the last patching cycle they finally stopped working altogether, which is a pain because now I'll have to set them all up again.

I've had issues with my scanner ever since.  I don't know if it's a driver problem or a hardware problem.  But if I keep clicking ok to the error and trying again it'll scan.  Super annoying.

And Windows 10 is extremelly rude and reboots for patching without permission.  Often it'll pop up a thing and you can choose to schedule it, but you can only choose to schedule it for a few days before it insists on having to do it.  But the other day I came home and it had rebooted without my permission and no warnings.   #grunt

Socialising

Last Friday night us and Ben went over to Serena's for a bbq which was all very pleasant.

Saturday was election day so we went and got our democracy sausages.  We also voted.  At the Federal elections we went at 5pm, didn't get a sausage, and queued way out the door.  For the local election we went at lunch time and didn't queue at all.  And got a sausage.

Last Saturday night Kit had an end-of-uni party, although Stu's last essay was due the following Monday so he had to take it easy.  I had a bit of a late night but it was all fun.

Monday Chris Bell (Ding) was in town, so we caught up for lunch.

Nothing much of note to report lately.

Had a weekend at the club for one of the long weekends.  Stu worked on his assignment and Heather, Lynn and I cleaned out the office.  It looks sooo much better now!

Had a bit of a walk last week to try and get the step count up.  Saw cool skies and fairy rings of flowers and swanlings.

Had a dinner with the sweetie at Pappa Rich in town last week which was nice enough.

Popped into Kit's when we got home.  Chloe was there with her new iPhone 7 which does take pretty good low light photos

Last weekend had a dinner at EffanC's and Scott came too and we just chatted all evening which was nice.

Other than that, I finished sorting Lego and picking out pieces for all the sets.  Now I'm putting them all together.  Fun times.
