Day 2 - Saturday 28 February - Melbourne and Cape Schanck

Took *forever* to get too sleep. I was too hot (although the room was ok) and restless legs. Slept in til 6:45 though which was good I guess.

The shower is in the bath tub which means space is a little tight and water can go everywhere.

Then it was photos/blogging/GPS. I really really need to clear some photos off my phone. I have a stab at it every so often. I really need to work on it every day.

Headed out around 10:10. First up we just had a quick wander down to the Yarra at O'Connell reserve. Nearly got taken out by all the joggers and cyclists. Stu gazed wistfully at the rowers on the river, as it sure did have the vibe of an English river.

Then back to the Lumberjack Cafe for brunch with Mila. I had eggs benedict but it had pulled pork rather than bacon which made it a little strange. Stu had sweetcorn and ricotta fritters. Nice catchup with Mila.

Wandered back to the hotel and Stu had a look at what we could do in the afternoon. He decided we should head down to the Cape Schanck Lighthouse, so that's what we did. Headed out about 12:45. Traffic wasn't toooo bad heading out of town and you're on motorways for a lot of it. We listened to Stephen Fry on the way. I was sooo tired though. Many nights of little sleep and a big brunch caught up with me and I was struggling to stay awake to listen.

The lighthouse was cute. We didn't bother to try and go on a tour. They take 40 minutes and cost $17 each. Instead we wandered around the area looking for birds. Really didn't see much though, and it was super windy. I think we saw red wattle birds, a raven, silvereyes, heard a butcherbird and saw a couple of black and white gulls, not sure what sort. But we couldn't see anything around the foreshore. We wondered if that was because the entire headland was swarming with people. It was crazy.

At 15:35 we headed off, and headed over to Flinders. Just had a look around the Flinders Monument lookout area, and then out to Bass Park but there wasn't much of a view there (and it was low tide and cloudy and everything looked pretty meh).

Then headed back to Melbourne (the drive through the forest near Flinders was quite pretty).

Had a shower and got ready then went out and caught the 18:48 #48 into town with Mila.

Walked down to ShanDong MaMa Mini for a lovely spread of dumplings for dinner.

Then walked all the way up through Chinatown to Berlin Bar for a few cocktails. I was worried it was going to be crazy loud, but actually the level of music was fine, it was just a bit noisy from people talking. Later on we could hear/feel the music coming from the venue downstairs. That would have been a bit miserable. All in all a nice night.

Then trammed it back to the hotel, getting to bed a bit before midnight.
