Day 1 - Friday 27 February - Canberra to Melbourne via Beechworth

Slept relatively well considering I had a couple of beers last night and it was a travel day.

We took longer getting ready than I would have liked. This whole having to go to work all day every day is getting pretty old. Ended up out the door at 9:55.

First stop was of course breakfast at The Scottish Restaurant. So we didn't get on the road properly until 10:37, by which time I'd done 2780 steps.

Once we got on the Hume we put on the end of the second Chibineko Kitchen book.

We drove on non-stop until past Wodonga, where we turned off and headed to Beechworth to the Bridge Road Brewery for linner (it was 14:25 by the time we got there). We had a pepperoni pizza which was very nice but the spiciness sneaks up on you. And an apple, blue cheese, walnut and rocket pizza which was also very good (but could have done with more blue cheese!).

We got some petrol after lunch then went down the side of the gorge so I could get a photo of the old stone bridge and Newtown Falls. Very nice.

Then just drove on til Melbourne. Along the way we listened to Stephen Fry's Mythos book about Greek mythology which was a bit of fun. We had to get down to one lane at one point north of Melbourne as they were towing away a small truck. No idea what had happened.

Then it was an hour of Friday night traffic in Melbourne trying to get all the way across town. It was pretty intense. We were exhausted by the time we got to the hotel a bit after 19:00.

I went in and checked in and paid the $20/night for underground parking. Took us two trips to bring up most of our crap.

The room is pretty nice. The aircon works pretty well. The bed is a king size and quite firm which is good. There's power points by the bed, but you have to pull out the bed-side tables to get at them, and they're very very low to the ground. I only just barely managed to get my charger plugged in. In bed around 21:30.
