Day 1 - Wednesday 30 October - Canberra to Hong Kong

So both of us got sick on Monday night. Me more so than the sweetie. Always a fun start to a holiday when you get sick :( And of course neither of us slept well last night - not being able to breathe certainly doesn't help.

So this morning we got up relatively early and headed off to the airport. Had a little while in the Qantas Club so had time for some pancakes made by a super cool pancake maker.

Transferred over to International, but had very little time in the Qantas Club. We went to the gate but then had to wait a bit because they were running late. But we departed only five minutes late from the gate. Got a bit annoyed with people that got up in the queue before their row numbers were called, then just stopped in the aisles on the plane while people like us were trying to get past them. Dumbheads.

I wasn't particularly inspired by the choice of movies. In the end I watched Planes, which was ok, but basically just Cars with wings. Predictable, and a bit "yeah right" with little planes going half way round the world in a day.

Saw the end of a doco on Hong Kong but didn't end up seeing the beginning. Then watched a three part documentary on the "Dark Charisma of Hitler". It was quite interesting, although if it had been shorter I would have had a nap. As it was I kept going, then was more awake.

Finally watched "This is the End" which is one of the stoopidest movies I've ever seen. Stoopid stoopid stoopid. I only watched it cause it said Emma Watson starred, but she was in a whole two scenes. A complete waste of time really.

Then read my book for the end of the flight.

In Hong Kong after a quick pass through immigration and a fairly long wait for our bags, we then went on a hunt for Octopus cards, an ATM for cash, and a tourist sim. Sadly they don't have iPhone 5 sims just standard and micro, so will have to hunt a bit further now if I want data while out and about on my phone. Or just use Stu's phone as an access point. Blah. Was a bit depressed about it actually. I seem cursed to never be able to get my phone online overseas for less than $20000/gigabyte.

We took the A21 bus into town so that we could see the sights on the way in. But I couldn't get the front seat and people were choking the entrance to the bus, so in the end we barged past them and took our bags upstairs and I hid up the back.

It's really quite astounding just how many skyscrapers there are here. Absolutely crazy.

Got off the bus, but I wasn't *entirely* sure where the road I wanted was, so we headed the wrong direction first up, and took a wrong turn on the way back, and people crowd the footpaths so we couldn't run our luggage easily, so ended up getting quite frustrated. But we got to the hotel ok in the end and our room has a pretty amazing view.

First thing we did in the hotel room was goggle at the spectacular view

Stu got a bit of food from the room service menu, and now we're about to crash. It's 12:45 now in Canberra.. late night!
