Sunday.  11th.  Picked up Neil and went into town.  Had Pappa Rich for dinner.  I had the roti canai with curry chicken which turned out to be huge, didn't need those chicken dumplings..

Then saw Twisters.

This whole week has been a complete blur.  Work is insanely busy and stuff on most nights as well.

Tuesday was a Shine Dome night with Professor Richard J Payne with a very interesting talk on discovering and synthesising new proteins, and A/Prof Rona Chandrawati and her work on using visible light properties of chemicals/reactions for practical applications such as detecting food spoilage.

Was a lovely afternoon/evening and great that David could come up.

Thursday.  Awake from like 3 til 5.  Hurray.  Crazy busy day.  Again.  Drinks.  Bed.

Friday.  Slept mostly ok.  Crazy busy day.  Again.  Finished at like 18:30.  Still no kievs at Chris's so found other frozen brown food to have.

Chicken wings and pomme noisettes

Then watched Iron Man.  Bit of fun, if a bit silly in places.  It's a bit dumb that the other dude could fly straight away.  What would have *actually* happened is he'd faceplant the first time he took off.  Someone on IMDB agreed with me:

Tony Stark is shown, learning to control the powerful thrusters in the suits hands and feet. It takes Tony considerable time to master the art of flying. However, when Stane acquires the arc reactor from Tony and inserts it into his new iron suit, he is able to fly and maneuver well, immediately.

Saturday.  Took forever to get to sleep.  Felt totally overwhelmed in the morning trying to keep up with housework.  I did finish labelling Tassie photos (day photos) so that was a win I guess.  And started some Lego.  But felt too blah to cook, so got tv dinners.  Hurray.  Then tried to watch Iron Man 2, but Disney refused to play anything - Error Code 83.  It was literally working before dinner.  Then I tried Netflix.  Had it going round in loops of logging me out, freezing up, not having anything in my profile, logging me out again.  WTF.  Fine.  So I try it in Edge.  Works fine.  Stoopid Chrome.

Sunday.  Slept mostly ok.  Another busy day of house/photo/food shopping/cooking etc.  Juiced all the lemons that had fallen off the tree in the past week or two.  Now what..

All the lemon juice

These are nice though..

Sunday.  4th.  Cooked a nice potato bake, kalettes, veggies and another perfectly cooked head of garlic, to go with some leftover pork.

Veggies

Monday.  Awake around 4 for like an hour or so.  But over eight hours sleep I guess so not *quite* as tired as yestrday.  Logged onto work and saw I might have broken stuff on Friday.  But couldn't figure out what.  Con eventually figured out what it was a bit before lunch.  Guess their post change testing was flawed.  Annoyed at myself for not figuring it out sooner though.  Dinner was a bunch of stuff that need using up in the fridge - mushrooms, bacon, feta, shallots, cream and basil.  Yummy but very salty.

Random creamy mushrooms

Finished culling my Tassie photos which is a bit of an achievement.  Watched the fourth part of the Olympics opening ceremony.  In some ways more people saw the ceremony .. but actually most people saw a lot less.  You had to be at the right spot on the Seine to see any of the performances, which means probably most people only saw the athletes on the boats.  And only a very small number of people actually saw the official bit.  Also bwhahahaha they put the flag on upside down!  #fail

Tuesday.  Super busy day.  Had a marathon call with a contractor on how to do some stuff.  Went into town after work and met up with Luc for a couple of drinks at Molly's.

Then dinner at Bar Rochford.

I had wagyu, but I was expecting some sort of vegetation, and Luc had three little entrees.

Lovely catchup, mostly talking about travel.

Wednesday.  Slept mostly ok.  Another busy day.  Neil and I tried out Uyghur Cuisine.  We had the kung pow chicken and sizzling beef.  We could have easily had just one of those dishes with rice and be done.

Had drinks with Neil, Jim and Taranii after work.  Dinner, backup computer, suddenly it's bed time.

Thursday.  Another busy day.  Good drinks.  Quick dinner at Badger (empandas).

Badger and Co empanadas

Then to see Beethoven's 9th.  It was excellent.  Enjoyed it a lot more than last time.  And because I know a chunk of the words to it now I was singing along quietly.  Not quietly enough though it seems, apparently it was "a bit offputting".  Sigh.  That's it.  I'm done.  Thank you.  The end.

CSO

Friday.  Awake from 3am.

Early cheers

Busy day again.  Finished writing up my doco on the migrations work. And in the afternoon we actually migrated two machines ourselves.  Chris promised kievs this week.  And he would have had them.  Except the supplier picked up the wrong thing.  Sigh.  His theory is they never had them, but gave him something else anyway.  So we had pizza for dinner.  Mash, rss feeds, early night.

Saturday.  Slept mostly ok.  Super busy day, but behind schedule all day trying to do All The Things.  Went into battle with Super this time.  I need to find out how much work put in so I can figure out the whole nonsense of claiming a deduction for the extra I put in.  Can't find anything in the portal.  Nothing was emailed.  Nothing was posted.  So went to fill in a contact form and a knowledge document comes up that says "Most statements will be available online from mid-August to mid-September."  Seriously WTF??  Cooked the fourth turkey roast we didn't use for the club Christmas in July with some veggies.  Probably overdid it a bit.  Might have eaten another head of garlic.

Turkey and veggies

Mash (GW Bailey from Police Academy!) then watched the first part of Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War.

Sunday.  Took ages to get to sleep then had thermoregulation issues.  Busy day again.  Realised it'll be six months next week that we left on our Tassie trip.  Reckon I can label 1500 photos by then? hmmm.  Managed ~350 today.

Great couple of days of wanderings!

So I've been going through family photos to pull out photos of Mum for when the time comes (hopefully not any time soon!!!) and came across this series taken at Hanging Rock near Blackheath.

Looks pretty spectacular doesn't it!

Hanging Rock

Oh, but can you see that little green blob above the gap?

That's fricken ME!!!

OMFG I give myself the heebie jeebies just looking at that.  I couldn't face doing the Nerve Test in the Grampians a couple of years ago.  Getting old makes you just plain terrified of falling to your death.  No such worries as a kid though.  I can't believe the parents let us do this crap!!

I wouldn't be surprised if the thing is barricaded off now...

Opened the door of our van at the club on Sunday morning to this!

Sunday.  21st.  Roasted All The Veggies for dinner, and had that with some leftover beef.

Monday.  Slept okish, bit restless, kept waking up hot.  Took out the recycling tub to the bin outside and noticed behind it a big stain on the side of the pantry from a stream of dirty water.  Seems I must have overwatered the plant on top on Friday night.  Sigh.  So then had to spent a bunch of time before work wiping it all down and having a sad that the chipboard had swelled from the water.  Sigh.  Busy day doing some migration work and paperwork.  Into Mash season 8.

Tuesday.  Dunno, no notes.

Wednesday.  Had a big lunch at work.  Well, it was big in that there were lots of people, but lunch was super small on account of heaps of people turning up without being catered for so they ran out of food.  Whoops.  At least I did get something.

In the evening Team Blank accidentally won the trivia night.  Sigh.  Only by two points too.  It was generally pretty fun.  My only main gripe was some of the questions were either half points for two part answers, or two points.  And it wasn't consistent.  Which wouldn't have been a problem except they weren't marking them centrally, they got us to swap with other tables.  So that was bit annoying.

Anyways.  Looks like I have to plan another trivia night.  First since pre covid.  Someone suggested getting AI to write it.  Wonder what sort of questions it would come up with.

At least there was mulled cider.

Thursday.  Slept mostly ok.  Although awake from after 4 til 5 after the sweetie got up to pee (he'd been awake for hours stressing about All The Things).  Dealing with All The Problems during the day.  Then pizzas, Mash, Lego Masters.

Friday.  Slept ok.  Morning was just dealing with crap and tidying up and crap.

Knocked off at lunch then did some club dinner prep and food shopping and more prep including making a peppermint slice.  Frustrated with LibreOffice formatting.  I have a random line in one of my documents that I literally cannot delete.  Give me Notes formatting any day.

Saturday.  Not much in the morning.  Stu decided he was too stressed to go out to the club so I went out by myself.

All my bags of crap
All the bags

After I dumped everything in the fridge I went for a wander and had a chat with Chris and Geoff and Tammie and Brenton.  Then watched a demo of the log splitter and had a go on it.  Then it was into the kitchen to wash up everything and start prepping dinner.  Which took all afternoon.  Note to self: start closer to 12 than 1.  There were a couple of minor disasters.  Firstly I forgot to take out the small wooden skewer sticks so I couldn't make up the Christmas Skewers (Chris suggested putting the bits out in bowls but they didn't really get eaten much).  Then the door on the little oven was a bit bent so it wasn't closing properly, so when I opened up the foil on the turkeys they were nowhere near done.  John hacked the oven door and got it to close properly and so I cranked the temp and waited a bit longer.  All good cause the other oven was still super slow even with less food in it.  So dinner was a little later than I planned but it all worked out.  It was also a fairly quiet night, only like 20-25 peeps.  And I also missed getting photos of a lot of the food cause I was concentrating too much on getting it organised.  Whoops.

Eggnog overload

Went to bed a little late but not too bad.

Sunday.  Happy birthday Dad.  Woke up quite early and never got back to sleep.  Eventually got up and went up at 7:30 to clean up the shed, and was totally amazed to see snow!  Will post pics separately.  After making it past the snow, then spent half an hour taking down Christmas decorations, had some breakfast, then spent an hour doing washing up from last night.  hmmm.  Definitely not part of the plan.

Club cleanup

Came home but was zombie tired so didn't feel up to doing anything useful.  I did make some drawer dividers for our implements drawer out of reject Lego of Vic's (worn/yellowed stuff).  And watched an hour of the Olympics opening ceremony.  Then took the sweetie to the airport, then came home for photos/blogging etc.

15.5.24 Australian Museum, Sydney

Ramses Gold of the Pharaohs

You would think a weekday afternoon would be quiet at the museum.

You would be wrong.

Even though it didn't feel crowded on the outside, you're first led into a room for a short film.  Which meant as soon as it was finished, everyone entered the first room all at once.

I got this as we were leaving the theatre room because I was first out.

Ramses Gold of the Pharaohs

Then you end up in a small dark room with artefacts all around and through the middle and everyone is jostling and there's no flow and people were just standing right up in front of things listening to their audio guides and NOT MOVING and within minutes I was super stressed out and just wanted to snap photos and get the hell out of there.

It was not pleasant at all.

And that wasn't the only place there was a massive bottleneck.  Further along the path goes literally through the middle of another place where they're playing a film, so you can't even get through without pushing through because people are just stopped there watching it.

Hate hate hate hate hate.

Here's some of my hastily taken photos.

So yeah, while it was a cool exhibition, it was super expensive and super stressful and I really didn't enjoy/appreciate it.  Sad times.

Sunday.  30th.  Shredded slow-cooked lamb and leftover veggies for dinner.  So good!!

Shredded lamb

Then Mash/Lego Masters.

Monday.  1st of July.  Half way through the year.  Slept ok.  Misc crap type of a day.  Then culling/photo filing/Lego Masters/leftovers for dinner.

Three separate problems with our timers in the past week.  On Saturday afternoon Stumpy's light/heater didn't turn off so he got an extra three or four hours of heat before I noticed it.  The timer for the light in the study is sometimes running slowly so needs a kick.  On Monday morning I came into the study and the four foot light was on.  Not sure what happened, maybe it never turned off overnight.  Three completely separate problems on three different timers.  Weiiiirrrrd!!

Tuesday.  Took a while to get to sleep - just not relaxing.  But then okish sleep.  Meh day.  Leftovers/Lego Masters etc.

Wednesday.  Rinse and repeat of Tuesday.

The last of the mini capsicums (which was green when I picked it) has been ripening up indoors!

Orange mini capsicum

Thursday.  Woke up with hurty for a while but took painkillers and managed to get back to sleep fairly quickly.  Why is Microsoft so trash?  Lately when I come back to my computer overnight, stuff that was open on my main/right screen has decided to move itself across to the left screen, which doesn't get turned on a lot of the time.  So I have to turn it on just so that I can move my windows back across to my main screen on the right.  So retarded.

Another meh day.  But Daiso is open!

Quiet drinks.  Made pizzas for dinner.  With that last little mini capsicum!

Finale of Lego Masters USA season 2.  I couldn't pick a winner.  All three of the brother teams are awesome builders in their own ways and I couldn't pick a standout build for it.

Friday.  Woke up a bit after 4 with hurty and/or upset bowels and never got back to sleep.  Crap day.  Yet more vendor trash.  The latest with our new version is you can't delete a firewall policy if you filter/search for it.  !  We have 1704 policies and it is literally impossible to find a policy you need to delete and delete it without manually reading every single policy as you load 100 more at a time.  Trash trash TRASH!!!  Hate it.  Was all set to go to the pub for lunch and never to back to work again.  Ever.  But spent the afternoon writing up stuff to delete which always makes me happy.  Even if I can't actually do some of it because software is so trash these days.  Kiev and kalettes for dinner.

Kiev and kalettes

Kalettes

Mash/Death in Paradise 9.8 (end of season 9).  Then watched Andrew McCarthy's documentary "Brats".  All those movies were a little before my time (I didn't see The Breakfast Club until not that many years ago, and I've never seen St Elmo's Fire) but it was still an interesting documentary.  But what is it with women that feel the need to mutilate themselves with plastic surgery to supposedly make themselves look younger but actually just makes them look deformed?

Saturday.  Sletp fairly well.  House/photo/Lego stuff in the morning.  Attempted to go to the Old Canberra Inn because they'd been advertising their "World Rum Day" events.  Except when we got there at 12 most of the taps weren't setup yet, menus were still "drying" and the two bar staff had literally no idea what they were doing for the rum day events.  Like seriously WTF?  If you're going to advertise and event, FRICKEN BE READY FOR IT!!  Hopeless.  So left and went to TRBC.  Because TRBC!

Then a couple of hours at Questacon!  I haven't been through there properly in years (like maybe 2007!).

Kinh Do takeway for dinner.

Sunday.  Slept okish.  Got overwhelmed thinking about how I'm going to find photos of the mother type person.  Didn't know where to start.  In the end just made up a list of directories likely to have usable photos.  Then just mostly Lego wishlisting.  Also did some food shopping.

Sunday.  23rd.  Basa bake, veggie bake and potatoes for dinner.

Basa bake and veggie bake

Then Mash and Laid Back Camp (I think it was the end of season 3).  Such a delightful show.  They go to such cool places and cook amazing food.  Makes us wanna go motorbike camping around Japan :)  Then started season 2 of Lego Masters USA.  This time with Michelle from the Australians vs the World series.

Monday.  24th.  Slept mostly ok (bit restless and hands kept going to sleep).  Fairly busy day.  Cooked up a bag of mushrooms with cream and leftover corned beef from the April club night and veggies from the June club night.  Yum.  Into Mash season 7.  Watched an episode of Lego Masters USA.  Went to read an entry of my Tasmania blog for the day I was photo culling.  But my site wouldn't load.  504 Gateway Time-out - nginx.  And CageFS error in Terminal.  And scripts were broken.  Oh no.  Not again.  Need to give Vodien a bowl of petunias.  And so began a week of angst that I may post separately.

Tuesday.  25th.

Sunrise

HTTP working on the blog but scripts and terminal still broken.  Busy day at work.  Made "Mexican Mince" (in that I used some taco seasoning on it) with leftover peas and carrots from the club night, and made up some taco slaw as well.  The sweetie went back for seconds so must have been good.

Wednesday.  26th.

Sunrise

Took ages to get to sleep because I was cold.  Got frustrated with NRMA because they've been charging us twice (I think) for membership.  Filled in an online form asking about it.  And the insurance wanted us to update a couple of things on the policy but of course insurance and membership is two different accounts in totally different places on their site and it wasn't at all obvious how I could even update what they wanted.  I should have taken a screenshot of what they wanted on the renewal because it's literally written in Engrish.  Their help is trash too.  All trash.

Busy day.  Didn't do the One Thing I wanted to get done.

NRMA got back to me.  Said they couldn't sort out my problem over email and I'd need to phone in.  Sigh.

Also.  People drama this week.  In an effort to avoid drama, or indeed be the cause of it, I pushed away a good friend, possibly forever, which makes me pretty sad.  I keep telling people i'm a horrible person, maybe now they'll believe me.  Sigh.

Thursday.  27th.  Slept ok.  Another busy day at work not getting done the One Thing I wanted to do.  Pizza for dinner.  Montage episode of Mash.  Braindead response from Vodien.

Pizzas

Friday.  Slept ok (surprisingly, after last night's Vodien rage).  Until 4:35 when the sweetie had to get up to fly to Sydney.  Busy morning before work tidying up the house so I wouldn't have to spend time on the weekend tidying up the house.  Relatively quiet day at work, finished the One Thing I wanted to get done from the other day, then basically caught up on a bunch of crap.  House and fish stuff after work.  Lego Masters.  Vodien fixed cagefs and scripts but broke my access to cpanel and I realised with horror that my mysql database had been restored to a point from LAST OCTOBER.  Then watched The Shape of Water .. which was .. interesting..

Saturday.  Slept ok.  Made this!  How cool is this :)  Been meaning to make this for ages (found a gif I'd made ages ago while I was cleaning out my in tray).

QR code for kazza

Bit of house stuff, bit of photo stuff, bit of Lego part wishlisting.

When the Vodien nonsense started at the beginning of the week I quickly exported my database in case anything happened.  At the time I thought.. funny.. that's significantly smaller than my last backup (taken in May).  But then didn't think much more of it.  On Saturday I realised to my HORROR that the backup I'd made was of the REVERTED database FROM LAST OCTOBER!!  I freaked out.  I couldn't login to cpanel anymore (they broke that on Friday) to do a tar.gz of the site.  I couldn't FTP anything (same login problem).  In the end I just loaded the May/June entries in my browser and manually saved them.  Then if all else failed at least I had the latest content since my May backup.  I also have it in a local RSS feed reader.  Although I do worry about having to ever do a mysql restore.  So much potential for things to go Very Badly with my blog.

The last of my mini capsicums is actually slowly ripening all by itself indoors!
Capsicum ripening

Leftovers for dinner.  Second part of the Mash montage episode.  Then watched The Good Son, which I'd seen once a long time ago.  All I could remember from last time was the Highway Man and the cliffs at the end.

Sunday.  Slept mostly ok although woke up early and started stressing about my database.  Got up to find the cpanel password reset email.  Cool.  But cpanel was full of scary errors, terminal had different errors and NONE OF MY WEBSITES OR EMAIL ACCOUNTS WORKED!!!  Finished getting ready, and thankfully by an hour later everything was working again.  I went to backup my database but phpMyAdmin had this error "mysqli_sql_exception: Access denied".  A quick Google said to just reset my cpanel password again so did that and it all came good.  Backed up the database.  Made a test blog post.  Hoped like hell this would be the end of the drama.  Until next time.

More drama with Rob and some club photos.  Sigh.

Bit of Tassie culling but mostly just Lego parts wishlisting.  Put some lamb into the slow cooker mid morning.  Lunch at Pattysmiths.  The cheesy chicken burger doesn't have actual cheese, just cheese sauce.  Still nice though.

Pattysmiths

Then food shopping.  I was worried going into Woollies that I wasn't in the right frame of mind for it.  Just about every time I go to Woollies I can go in in a completely happy mood, and be wanting to kill people by the end of it.  So after the terrible week I've had I knew things were going to be bad.  And I was right.  I took a few deep breaths before I went in.  But then I was trying to find the dried fried shallots.  They're usually down the bottom in the Asian section.  But there was this couple and their trolley in the way and while they did move a bit, they still stayed there in front of everything for AGES and I couldn't see the damned shallots and I was getting more and more frustrated and stressed and when that happens I literally go blind and can't SEEEEE and then all these people were trying to get past in either direction and I just about had a panic attack.  I gave up looking and carried on but I obviously looked distraught enough that a staff member actually asked if I was ok and I was like no because I can't FIND anything and he very sweetly went and looked for me (it took him ages to find them too).  What a lovely guy.  Grabbed our last few things then got out of there.  Should go back to shopping at 7am, so much less stressful.  Pity the sweetie is allergic to mornings.  Not much else in the afternoon.  Mostly Lego wishlisting.  Glimmer of hope that good friend may not be lost.  And now to see if I can post this...

Sunday.  16th.  Mum not in the country to wish happy birthday to.  Cath's basa bake, cabbage bake and veggies for dinner.

How funny is this garlic we had for dinner.  The one in the middle is a regular sized clove, but the other four are EPIC!  This was basically the entire head of garlic - five bulbs!
Epic garlic

Basa bake and cabbage bake

Then watched the last episode of season 1 of Shogun.  It was good and all but I really struggled to keep up with who was who which did affect my enjoyment of it.  Then an early night.

Monday.  Slept generally ok I guess.  Busy day dealing with all the crap.  Then after work it was just cleaning the kitchen and cooking.  Sigh.  After dinner was photo culling, Lego part listing and USA Lego Masters.

Stu had a top hat arrive this week!

Stu top hat

Tuesday.  Slept ok.  Was filing some of my Sydney photos and nearly blatted 54 photos because the Canon and iPhone photos happened to have the same number range on the same date - so there were conflicting file names!  And this was just after me coming across a single conflicting file name from the Canon/iPhone but this time both the date *and* the time were the same (holiday photos get renamed with date and time, but regular photos just have the date).  Of course David will think I'm dumb, because he renames his photos as year-month-day-hour-minute-second-number-<label> so there's never any conflicts, but this is literally the first time this has happened to me!

Special Tea

Wednesday.  Took ages to get to sleep and woke up early but slept ok in between.  Had a moment where I wanted to rage quit my entire job because everything Microsoft does is TRASH.  Every product of theirs EXPECTS you to be directly connected to the internet, as if firewalls and proxies don't exist.  They're utterly delusional and I HATE it.  But I did get to delete lots of stuff which always makes me happy.  Had a beer with Jim after work again which was nice, his idea this time.  Pretty much all I did when I got home was backup my computer and watch an episode of Lego Masters.

And deal with this beer disaster!

Thursday.  Slept ok.  Another day of deleting All The Things which was pretty cool.  And technically not even my job (supposed to be another team's job) but satisfying nonetheless.  Made pizzas again for dinner.  Mash then watched the Lego Masters USA season 1 finale.  They all did amazing builds, and they all deserved to win.  I called it with ***spoiler alert*** Tyler and Amy winning, although I would have liked Mark and Boone to win too!

Oh, and the freezing nights finally caught up with the mini capsicums!

Frozen capsicum plants

I picked the three biggest, and the next day picked four even smaller ones

Unripe capsicums

Rosemary webs

Used one of the mini capsicums on pizzas!

Friday.  Awake from like 3 til 5:30.  Sigh.  Updated a bunch of doco for all the crap I deleted.  And just bits and pieces.  Kievs for dinner, then Mash and Death in Paradise 9.7.

Chicken kiev

Saturday.  Took ages to get to sleep because my feet were cold, then woke up early but slept generally ok in the middle.  Got a bunch of stuff done in the morning.

I'm convinced that geraniums could survive the apocalypse.  This stem of geranium has been out of the ground since like FEBRUARY.  And yet it lives!  In fact that leaf wasn't even there a month or so ago.  The thing just keeps on growing!

After lunch we headed out to the club.  Lit the fire I'd prepared last time, then the sweetie had a sleep while I went back to Queanbeyan to get my nails done!  There was a lady at work who was looking to do it as a side hustle and wanted people to practise on.  They generally turned out pretty well although she had a bit of trouble with the extensions on the three nails that were broken in the past week or so (this was the first time she'd tried it with this method/materials).  So they're a bit rough but still look good overall.  Except it did take 2.5 hours.. whoops.. heh.

Headed back to the club just in time to get ready for Chris and Ian's anniversary formal night!  The theme was royal blue, top hats and tiaras!  Hence the blue nails.

Rob got a nice photo of me on the couch

And as always an epic feast!

As always a lovely night.

Sunday.  Bit restless sleep and hands kept falling asleep.  But even though it was freezing we were quite comfortable with our down/feather doona.  Went up at 8:00 and helped clean up the shed for an hour before we headed home.  Stopped in at Queanbeyan McDonalds for breakfast (epic queue!).  Decided to try the new chicken/bacon mcmuffin.  So ordered (and paid) for that.  But the retards at McDonalds Queanbeyan forgot to put the bacon on.  And the chicken pattie was a bit dry anyway.  Won't be ordering that one again.  Other than that just a nice quiet day doing some photo stuff and Lego stuff and even got to build a new set!  Next week!  Maybe...!
