Day 10 - Saturday 2 March - Bicheno to Eaglehawk Neck

Collapsed into bed early but then woke up around 01:00 and stayed awake til at least 04:00. Sigh. Woke up around 6:51 but attempted to get more sleep and eventually got up around 7:38. So it was a bit of a slow start. Got ready and packed up and checked out just before 10:00.

We were going to try going to the other lookout rock in Bicheno (the northern one) but because we were so late and it looked to be at least a 15 minute walk each way (probably actually less but hard to know), and because it was cloudy anyway, we just skipped it. A good reason to come back to Bicheno I guess.

Wye River. Because it's bigger than a creek!
Haha. Pity I didn't get a photo of that.

We stopped in Swansea and went down to the jetty. There were terns on every post which was pretty cool to see. Some random dude wanted me to take photos and videos of him on his camera hehe. Also went to the eastern beach for a look across to Freycinet. Stu kept looking at houses thinking it would be nice to retire there heh.

At 11:15 we came across Spiky Bridge and actually turned around to go see it.

We also passed by an old YHA building that my mother stayed at in 1968.

Around midday we stopped in Triabunna and had a look at the Seafarer's Memorial, and had a pitstop.

At around 12:40 we had a look at Buckland Church, which the parents saw in 1971. No wedding there today though.

At 13:30ish we got to Richmond. We went and had a look at the bridge which looked very pretty in the sun. Because it was a weekend there were PEOPLE everywhere.

We went back into town for lunch but got quite stressed looking for parking (having all our gear in the car meant we wanted to park in as public a space as possible). Found a spot and went and got lunch in the Richmond Arms Hotel which was quite nice. We also realised we'd crossed the line into the south, because all the beers now are Cascade not Boags. We decided not to walk around town (too much people stress). A good reason to come back to Richmond I guess.

We stopped at the Tasman Bay National Park Lookout.

Then down to the hotel in Eaglehawk Neck. Which is .. well.. um.. tired I guess. We have a lovely view from the room. Bed is a bit soft but I think not too bad. There's a tiny desk (for the tea/coffee) but no chair in the room. The fridge is tiny but fits what we need. There's an air conditioner but we haven't needed it because it's been cool enough. There's also an extra pedestal fan and a fan heater. The bathroom is small but has been renovated. The problem is the toilet is CRAP. It doesn't flush properly because the cistern is too small and the bowl is dumb so the flush just doesn't flush. Very annoying.

Anyway so we dumped all our crap and headed out again.

We went to the blowhole and Fossil Lookout which were quite nice.

There's no shops anywhere around here at all. Because we had a big lunch, dinner was just beer (bought downstairs) and cracker mix. Dinner of champions! And I spent entirely too long backing up all my photos and blogging. And suddenly it's nearly 21:00. hrmmmmm
