How was your day dear?: February 2018 Archives

Monday

Quiet day.  Was still sad from the news of last night.  Had lunch with the sweetie which was nice.

Tonight was just Monday usual crap, and then took Chrissie's car back.

An hour of Lego while watching Addams Family, then bed time..

This morning I labelled all the photos I took of all the stuff Mike is going to try and sell.  Still need to get them to him..

After that alternated between sorting Lego and working on the trivia night.  Although sorting became a problem because I had to make an emergency emptying of some of the cardboard boxes it came in due to flooding in our garage (which hasn't happened since we got our guttering fixed).  I knew it rained on and off during the night last night but I had no idea how heavy it was.  We got a couple of streams coming through the garage but fortunately no other damage.  Even late this afternoon the creek at the bottom of the hill was still in full flood.  Amazing, considering how low the lake has been after several weeks of no rain.  Typical of Australia though - droughts and flooding rains.

So yeah, also got three rounds done for the trivia night (only another seven to go..).

This afternoon did some food shopping.  Watched Enterprise over dinner then went back to Lego sorting.

And in other stories of life and death.. Chrissie hasn't popped yet.  And just found out that kid killed in Palmerston the other night was the son of someone I know :(:(

Some time ago Kit gave her blue tongue lizard, Stumpy, to Chrissie.  With everything going on in her life at the moment she redelegated him to me.

So now we have a lizard in our front entranceway :)

Stumpy moves in

But that meant clearing out all the clutter that's been in the front entranceway for at least five years.  Mike offered to have a go at selling it all (which is why it was all still there - I just hadn't gotten around to photographing, packaging, weighing and listing everything).  So we did a trade.

I spent all morning photographing (almost) everything before Mike took it all.  After which time I was hot and sweaty and the cooler was doing nothing.  So spent most of the afternoon and evening sorting Vic's Lego.

Tonight I watched two episodes of Building Giants - one on the cruise ship Meraviglia which was awesome (built in the same shipyard as the Queen Mary 2, and a lot of the same construction techniques), and one on the Copenhagen new metro line which was pretty cool.  And then an episode of Heston's Feasts which was a bit of fun.

Got about five minutes of rain which was awesome but not nearly enough to make up for having no rain for the past few weeks..

The Boss

ok day today.  Had a bit of a long lunch which also involved a game of darts (I got a bulls eye in my first round but didn't do very well after that haha).

This evening over to Chrissie's to pick up her car in case I need to drive while Stu is out.  She is very ready to pop.

Stu had a crazy day so I thought we should watch something a bit "light" and short.  Saw The Boss on Netflix.  We like Kristen Bell so we put it on.  Very silly movie but the light fluff we needed.

Sooo looking forward to a weekend where I *have* to be at home.

Of course saying that will jinx myself and I'll be at the hospital later.. haha

Blades and Zombies

Last night we went over to EffanC's and got Indian for dinner and watched Blade Runner 2049.  Yeah pretty average movie.  So much left unresolved and too many "what the" moments and quite dark (we ditched the 3D glasses about two minutes in and went back to 2D).  Didn't really enjoy it.. it was too .. messy ..

Tonight I managed to get one beer before the sweetie wanted to go home and Chrissie was convinced she was going into labour at any moment.  This was after waking up at 4am with a brain that wouldn't shut up and a spine that wouldn't stop hurting, so I was a zombie today.  No labour so far so I'm going to collapse into bed, after achieving exactly nothing tonight.

Butt Flame

Had a pretty productive day today.  It's amazing what you can get done when people leave you alone to just get your work done!!

Did you know traffic around all of Dickson is *terrible* at 6pm at night?

I was scanning photos of the Olympics in Sydney in 2000 the other day and remembered the photo that went round the interwebs at the time of a guy doing a handstand in front of the Olympic Flame at Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush.  I had a quick Google but couldn't find it.  But I did find it in my small collection of "humour" pictures.

Yesterday morning we headed out to the club first thing.  I spent a fair bit of time dismantling Lego.  Had some lunch, chatted for quite a while, then spent a lot of the latter half of the afternoon in the pool before coming home.  David stopped in on his way home, and we got pizza and watched Men in Black III which was all a bit silly but I still enjoyed it.

Today it was just a fairly quiet day doing not a whole lot.  Went to Bunnings to see if there were any boxes I could use for Lego sorting, but none really.  Had some lunch then went to First Choice to pick up a bunch of wine boxes for packaging Tupperware to sell on ebay.  Cooked a potato bake and three cheese chicken for dinner and watched Blade Runner.

And just like that weekend is over :(

Crazy Weeks

Such a busy week this week. Absolutely crazy.

Took an early mark tonight and came home and played with Lego for a while before Jenn came over for dinner (vegeterian gyoza).  Jenn brought over a few of her Tequilas she got from Mexico last year for a taste testing which was pretty cool.  After dinner we played a game of Carcassonne (I won, oops).  Such a pleasant evening.

Crazy Days

Been pretty busy.  Work.  Lego.  The usual.  ie, nothing interesting heh.

Did some food shopping tonight and finished off the last of the leftovers for dinner.  Although I did need to Tetris food into the freezer tonight so we still have a bit of work to do there!

Lego Therapy

Had a thoroughly awful day today.  Thought was going to be picked up to go to Chrissie's appointment, but I was actually meant to pick her up.  Which meant we were late and when we were still on our way they were like, well the doctor is running late anyway, don't bother coming.  So $90 better off (so long as they don't try to charge her) but I was super stressed due to failing because of poor communication and assumtions.  We went and got lunch anyway but I was in a pretty bad mood.

And then got back in time for a meeting, but the dude was like "it's next to the kitchen" except there's *two* kitchens on his floor.  Fricken sigh.  Was in tears because of the stress of everything at one point.  And people.  Hate people.  Why can't I just sit quietly in a room and do my work and NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE????

My boss said I needed Lego therapy, so got a bit of that tonight.  And have sore fingers to show for it.

Enterprise

Way way way back in the day I watched Star Trek: Enterprise when it aired on tv.  But try as I might (about a seaon and a half) I just couldn't get into it.  So I was a little reluctant when Stu said we should start watching it - when there was nothing else new to watch - which is almost our default state of being now.  But I actually enjoyed the two part first episode.  Go figure.

Other than that, I spent pretty much the entire day tidying the house.  Seven thousand steps without even leaving the house (other than to go across the road to hack a pokeportal and buy some baking paper).

I Tired

Katie was back in town this weekend, so went down to Kit's for a while after dinner.  Played Cards Against Humanity for quite a while but I didn't do very well.  Slightly late night, but still woke up at 6:30 this morning didn't I?

Headed out to the club first thing for a committee meeting.  We were going to have lunch then come home, but we got talked into hanging around til 5pm to meet a new person.  So didn't get home til 7pm.  So I'm very tired.

Finished watching that special Dad had on the bicentennary.  Some of it had the feel of a commercial video, some live news footage.  I don't know whether Dad had spliced stuff together or what.

Mum had a few photos from the day.  I suspect Dad would have more on slides.  I also need to find the print I have of the *massive* firework that I watched going up and up and up and up like a rocket, before finally exploding in the biggest firework I've ever seen.  Part of it is seen in this photo..

I'm up to July 2000 in scanning Mum's photos.  Only about seven years to go before she went digital :)

Paper bills are easy.  You have them on your desk, and you write on them when you pay them.

But electronic ones..

Aside from getting lost in the clutter of email I get every day (which I've remediated somewhat by automatically filing important ones into a "To Action" folder), you have no way of knowing if you've paid them or not, without hunting through bank statements.  So painful.

I do like having an electronic copy, as it does save paper and scanning time, but I really need a better system of processing electronic bills.

Some bills I pay by direct debit, and some that are fixed get an auto payment.  But some billers make it very difficult to setup direct debit (this is 2018 I should NOT need to have to fill out a paper form!!).

So fun times.

Not.

Other than bill nonsense, I was pretty impressed that my Monday night routine including doing my washing, cooking, eating and cleaning up after dinner was done by 7pm.  The sweetie helped cook which was nice :)

Then I watched a special Dad taped off tv back in 1988 about the Bicentennary.  At least part of it anyway.  And finally finished a 2000 piece jigsaw I've been working on for what feels like ages.

Oh, and I set a new high score for myself in 2048 - 80200!

Sedate Sunday

Had a pretty productive morning this morning Getting Things Done which was pretty good.

Spent a bit of time jigsawing and watching Dad's documentaries this arvo.

Cooked coq au vin for dinner, and we watched some more of "Top 10 Architecture" and then "I am Your Father" - a documentary on David Prowse.  Which was good, but basically a big teaser.. "oh we're going to film him doing the end of Return of the Jedi as it should have been done but you can't see it HA HA".  yeup.  #fail

I am Groot

| | Comments (0)

Fairly quiet day.  I am Groot.  The little brother and I did most of a 1000 piece jigsaw in the morning (I finished it after lunch).

The sweetie and I did some food shopping.

And suddenly it was 16:30.

?!?!?

I cooked a low-carb lasagna with a couple of Kit's huge zucchinis and we watched a new Good Place and Guardians of the Galaxy 2.  It's been a little less than three years since we saw the first one, yet the only thing I could really remember about it was Groot.  Gotta love dementia.  Hrmm.

Also.  The sweetie is mean to me.  I am Groot.  Ha!

Friday.

Yeup.

Ok day, relatively busy.

The little brother and then Leanne came over for dinner.  Just did spaghetti with bascaiola sauce (cream, bacon, garlic - no mushrooms on account of my brother doesn't like mushrooms).  Nice enough, if a little carby and veggie-less (we haven't been shopping in two weeks).  Although I then did find the epic zucchinis in the fridge we got off Kit that I need to use soon.

Having a moment now on account of whenever I open my mouth people switch off and don't listen.  Hate that crap.
