How was your day dear?: June 2016 Archives

Quiet night

Tonight the sweetie and I went to Chong Co for dinner after work.  We had the duck salad which was delicious, and pork pad see ew which was nice enough.

Then just a quiet night watching an episode of Homeland, and an early night.

Friday night mum came down from Sydney.  Chrissie and Zac came up and we all went out to the Dumpling Inn for dinner (slightly late on account of mum getting lost on account of road closures on account of accidents).  Had shallot cakes, crispy skin duck with pancakes, garlic prawns, xiao long bao and mixed chow mein.  All very nice.

Saturday morning we hopped in mum's car and headed down to Junee, arriving around lunch time.  The others watched some taped Home and Away while I finished up the holiday finances to figure out how much I owed mum.  Then mum, David and I played a game of canasta.  I got off to a good start, but David caught up and won.  Then we channel surfed Foxtel and ended up watching Under Seige 2.

For dinner we headed out to the Junee Golf Club.  Very strange venue.  I had to keep reminding myself it's a small country town.  Eftpos is that new fandangled thing didn't you know?  At least they took credit card when ordering food, if not at the bar.  Also had a cake for mum's birthday.

Cheesy goodness

Then back to the house where mum dozed through Arctic Tale and Ice Road Truckers in India.  I half watched and half did jigsaws on Kat's ipad.

This morning we headed home.  Cloudy morning, but no rain, so actually a very pleasant drive, otherwise we'd have been headed straight into the sun.  Got home, then mum continued on home as well.

This afternoon I went food shopping, then came home and cooked all afternoon.  Cooked a roast pork for dinner with lots of roast veggies, then a "breakfast lasagna" from a recipe Lachie gave me.  Stu's brain has been suffering from processed flour the past couple of days so we really want to try again to cut out the processed sugar and flour.  This recipe of Lachie's is about 150% fat though, so it really goes against everything I consider to be "healthy".  Maybe just a very small portion with some tomatoes for fibre?  I could easily have halved the recipe I think, as it did two baking dishes full of food.  The pork roast for dinner was nice too.  Watched some Homeland, did a day's worth of photo processing, and suddenly it's 9:45pm.  Weekend?  What weekend?  I think I completely missed out this week :(:(:(

Pretty quiet/boring weekend for us.  Although I was super busy doing house stuff - mostly the pool and fish tank stuff, a bit of housework, some cooking (a beef stew), food shopping, walking with Chris and also with the sweetie, and drinks with Kit and Ben.  In fact I was so busy doing the house stuff I barely had time for anything else, including photo processing (only managed three days worth over the weekend).

And is America *ever* going to toughen its gun laws or what?  Seriously.

Well that was fun.  NOT.

Wait, that was a few nights ago.

So Friday night after getting home I slept really well.  Fine all day Saturday.  Saturday night I woke up in the middle of the night for hours and was a zombie on Sunday.  Sunday night I had a few drinks and slept pretty well so was fine on Monday.  Monday night I slept quite well.  Tuesday was also good, but Tuesday night I woke up in the middle of the night for hours and was a zombie on Wednesday.  Can't. Fricken. Win.

Wednesday night we (read: DC and Duncan and Doc and Chris and even Jai, but not me) won the fricken trivia night.  A-fricken-gain!

But at least I slept well.

Today the second-place-getters at trivia took us up on our begging offer to run the next trivia night so that was a huge relief!

Tonight Ben was going to come up but then didn't.  hrmmm

So instead I watched the video that came with one of my installs of Windows - Windows ME I think - which had Alanis Morissette cutting off her hair - which suits her sooooooo much better than the long hair around her face.  And that got me onto watching one of her episodes of You Can't do that on Television which I can't believe I've never actually referenced on this blog!  (sorry: scratch that, I did mention it once, two years ago).

"You Learn"

I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone
I recommend walking around naked in your living room
Swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)
It feels so good (swimming in your stomach)
Wait until the dust settles

You live you learn
You love you learn
You cry you learn
You lose you learn
You bleed you learn
You scream you learn

I recommend biting off more then you can chew to anyone
I certainly do
I recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time
Feel free
Throw it down (the caution blocks you from the wind)
Hold it up (to the rays)
You wait and see when the smoke clears

You live you learn
You love you learn
You cry you learn
You lose you learn
You bleed you learn
You scream you learn

Wear it out (the way a three-year-old would do)
Melt it down (you're gonna have to eventually anyway)
The fire trucks are coming up around the bend

You live you learn
You love you learn
You cry you learn
You lose you learn
You bleed you learn
You scream you learn

You grieve you learn
You choke you learn
You laugh you learn
You choose you learn
You pray you learn
You ask you learn
You live you learn

Hi Luc!

Work wasn't too stressful today.  Spent all morning going through my emails.  Spent the afternoon catching up bits and pieces.  So that was nice.

Tonight I began the long slow process of looking at all my photos, resizing a copy of them and geotagging them.  Then I can start culling to select some for blogging.  Also before too much longer I'll need to sort out the "people" photos before I forget who's who.

And here's a photo of a spider at Kit's at the end of last year..

So I got home at midnight on Friday night and slept til about 8am.

Saturday we went out to the club for a committee meeting, so I downloaded the last of the photos and wrote up the last day's blog entry.  Had a late lunch in Bungendore so didn't get home til after 3pm.  Cooked a roast chicken dinner and watched some Homeland and Inside Out.  I was expecting Inside Out to be a lot darker and more depressing than it was so was pleasantly surprised.  Then had an early night.

Of course I woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep.  For four hours.  And then it was broken sleep.  Woke up around 9am but my spine wouldn't let me get back to sleep so got up around 10am and was a zombie for the rest of the day.  Really didn't get anything done at all.  Although we did go out and do our food shopping.

Went down to Kit and Ben's after dinner for some wine, which made me sufficiently sleepie and managed a pretty good night's sleep last night.

Now for the fun part.. going back to work..
