Fun Stuff: December 2010 Archives
I wasn't really planning on attempting moon photos tonight. We don't have a good view of the east so I'd have to go out to try and find somewhere that could actually see the moonrise.
But in the end I did go out and found somewhere with a clear view of the moon.
It was pretty cool.
Maybe I should get that L series lens.. although the 24-105 would have this picture a little smaller, but clearer. Unless I got a super zoom 300mm.. that would give me a much better zoom hehe.
We had another one of our work Christmas parties near the boat ramp on the western side of Lake Ginninderra on Friday afternoon. It was a lovely day, and the BBQ went really well (thanks Stewie and Jeff!!). Although I was feeling a bit nostalgic because it reminded me of so many MCSU Christmas BBQs in the past..

Anyways, as we were leaving we had to pass under trees full of black prince cicadas (that were peeing everywhere - eww! hehe).
Of course they needed to be documented ;)

Update: pics are up on the RiotACT :) I have to agree with the first commenter (actually I mentioned it to whoever would listen on Friday) - they're a much bigger thing in Sydney, so is nice to have them here sometimes too!
Not quite so many problems at work today, but I was pretty much a zombie (Sunday night's lack of sleep really catching up with me). So don't think I was terribly productive. So helped Neil stock the beer fridges heh.
A small storm blew over Canberra this afternoon. It was around just long enough to get some photos on Belconnen Way and over the Southern Cross Club.
Better night tonight too. Have spent some time sorting photos. I really do take too many photos...
Me little brother came over tonight. He brought his camera equipment including some pretty funky lenses.
I might have had a little bit of fun with the macro one taking fish photos...
Bit of a crop -
Full pixels -
So yeah, camera seems ok, it's just my cheap lens that's very soft. If only I could get an L-series 18-135mm and I'd be set...
I put up my Christmas tree last week.
Whenever I see it I can't help but smile.. :)
After George Hrab, headed out to Googong, it being full and all. What a difference a couple of weeks makes!
And had to get a pic of this!
Never thought I'd see this!!
Compare today ..
with last week...
Side by side..
And had to get a pic of this!
And so another weekend comes to a close all too quickly :(
Yesterday we met up with Nat and Andrew at what used to be Kitschen, but is now Kingswood Bar and Grill, who of course don't take Entertainment Book vouchers. Lame. Food was ok (my pasta could have been a little moister).. Andrew's chips rocked though.
Then they came back to our place and we played Buzz (Nat won one and I won one), Creationary (had some fun collaborative play), Pictionary (Stu and I won) and Mario Kart (Nat won - who else? ;) )
Super fun afternoon :)
So I've actually been doing some other dam trips recently. There was a trip to Googong last week, and Scrivener earlier in the week.
First up I thought it would be fun to compare Cotter Dam pics over the past two months.
Firstly, there's Cotter Dam in October, when things were flowing sedately, even after heavy rains in September. Note the neat little walkway under the new steel bit of the dam.
Then there's last Sunday. Lots of rain and overflow, and it seems the walkway has already been destroyed.
And finally yesterday. I'm wondering how much of the new fill for the new dam wall is still there or has been washed away..
Googong Dam last week was at about 80% full. Apparently it hit 100% yesterday. I'll have to get back there soon!
And Scrivener earlier in the week was also pretty awesome
The majority of these pics are up on the RiotACT. I think I'm five for five now (didn't post any of yesterday's pics).
One of Tony H's mates got these pics.. must have been earlier yesterday morning.. epic squee!!
Lots of fun!!!
Had our work Christmas party today. One of at least three heh. So that was fun enough, although they lied and had the band inside (they'd promised the band would be outside, so the inside area would be quieter). But of course with the rain (or threat thereof), they came in. Which meant we had to go outside or into one of the side rooms so we could hear each other without yelling. Grunt.
Anyways.
Afterwards I talked Dave into being my dam chauffeur and we hit Scrivener, Cotter and Ginninderra.
Scrivener with two gates open (this morning there were three)
Then out to Cotter. The lower bridge over the Cotter River was closed. But you get a decent view from Brindabella Road. (Coppins Crossing was also closed)
Cotter River in flood
Pumping station
And finally to Lake Ginninderra's spillway
Ginninderra Creek (River??)
Phewf!!
Was pretty epic awesome though!
I have some more dam pics to post, but think will save them til tomorrow :)
