Day 20 - Tuesday 12 March - Ouse to Strahan

Slept like crap. Sigh. Room was too damned hot (no aircon and it had been a very hot day and it was a loft room and there was no AIR). Woke up maybe like midnight and stayed awake for a couple of hours. Heard a change come through a bit before 2:00 and it cooled down a little after that.

Stopped at the Surveyor's Mark of the centrepoint of Tasmania. It was *cold* here - like 11C and windy, so got out our cold weather gear.

Then went and saw the bottom of Lake St Clair. Really just to say we'd seen it. We did find the spot Dad took some photos of in 1971 so that was pretty cool, but didn't do any of the walks Mum and Dad did.

Found another couple of photo spots Dad took along their way in 1971.

Stopped to have a look at the swing bridge on the way to Frenchman's Cap. Well I did, the sweetie stayed in the car. Had to give way to a couple on the track, but they were the only people I saw. Did see the tail of a rather fat black snake slithering off into the bush.

Next did the walk up to Donaghy's Hill. Well I did, the sweetie stayed in the car. Passed the same couple coming back down. Was also followed by another lady and we took pictures of each other at the top (view was pretty impressive).

And then did the very easy walk to Nelson Falls. Well I did, the sweetie stayed in the car. Passed the same lady from Donaghy's Hill coming back. Quite pretty falls and a lovely walk, well except for All The People. Very busy one.

It was 16:05 by this point. I wanted to go up to the Iron Blow lookout while it was easy, but ended up following an entire convoy of cars up there. There was a tour group going on and they had a gardener/geologist talking about stuff around the place. But it meant we had to wait for them to be done to get photos and go.

Then down into Queenstown. The light on the mountains was pretty spectacular. Got a photo of main street looking up to the mountain that Dad got in 1971. While Stu got petrol.  Also ran into the couple I'd seen on the Swing Bridge walk and Donaghy's Hill walk.  They were from Western Australia and said even twenty years ago the hills were all still barren.

And finally into Strahan, after 18:00. Grabbed some milk/oj at the IGA before checking in at the caravan park.

"Checking in". Yeah bit of an exaggeration. Basically they tell you what room you're in and leave it all unlocked and the key on the table (and every single light including the bathroom heater on). Great. Until we went to use said key and found it didn't work. So I went to reception. Closed. So call the number and tell them what's going on. Lady must have been onsite because she came quite quickly with two other keys. Both of the "do not copy" variety, and obviously different to the key we had (which was a regular key). So immediately I start stressing (because that's what I do). What if someone had replaced the key that was left there and plans to come back later to steal all our stuff. There'd be no breakin, because they have the key. It's enough to make me want to take my laptop with me when we go out.

Anyways we went to "Molly's" and had a seafood basket. The Thirsty Camel next door was closing up at 18:30 though.

Then back to the room to unpack and get settled. Well, not that I can really settle, too stressed. Sigh.
