Day 2 - Sunday 6 February - Tumbarumba to Bright

Slept reasonably well considering the bed was a bit soft (and small! only a queen!) and the pillow a bit too high. My breakfast was some snow peas, a few slices of pepperoni, and a roll-up. Breakfast of champions! Waited for the sweetie to become functional, then we headed off at about 9am.

Our first stop was back up on the Hume at Holbrook. The sweetie didn't know what the attraction was, and I kept it a surprise. I just told him it'll be on the left, and it should become obvious :) So that was super cool. The thing has been painted somewhat recently and the sun was shining and it was just glorious. Had a good long wander around, then we had snackages in the cafe.

Next stop was again off the Hume at Ettamogah. Going through the photos, it looks like the last time I was there was 1994!! There was a little baby tree on the western side that had all grown up! I couldn't find The Lockup though, and I feel like there's a lot more buildings around there now.

Then we stopped in Albury briefly to see the station, but it was around midday, and the sun just hadn't come to the west enough, so the photos weren't great. Next time!

Next we headed out to Hume Dam. I love dams, I'll go out of my way to see them. And this one was full to overflowing so it was pretty awesome. Thanks La Nina! Walked all the way across the dam and back.

We also stopped briefly at the "Old Weir" but it wasn't very photogenic.

I didn't find the photos Dad took in the late 60s of Hume Reservoir, but they could have been literally anywhere. I did take a bunch of photos of the hillsides, maybe one of them will line up.

Then it was through a few very pretty valleys to Bright (while listening to The Coming Storm podcast). At the motel I'm filled with hope at a firm mattress, thin pillow, and aircon!

Relaxed for half an hour or so, then went for a wander into town. We wandered down along the river and a bit through town.

Finally we headed to the Bright Brewery for dinner. Bit of drama getting organised with Vic Services checkins (I managed ok but the sweetie had some dramas). They were super diligent about checking our vaccination status and checking in, but they were super lax about wearing masks. I swear we're going to get covid from this town, there's just been too many *people*. Even outside I worry about walking past people in the street. They could be exhaling at just the time we walk past and omicron is that contagious we could could get it from that. Stoopid tourist towns. There was live music happening at the brewery, which would have been nice had we not been sober and *right next to it* so that was actually a bit stressful. But it didn't go for too much longer, then peace reigned.

Anyway so we had a couple of beers and wings and pizza and that was all pleasant enough.

Then back (via a wander down the river) to download photos and blog etc.

This place has a washer and dryer downstairs and a communal microwave. May use one or more of those in the next few days.
