Woke up around 2:00 for HOURS. Sigh. Another morning of not transfunctionating. Bed was a bit soft but didn't move much when you moved. I also used one of the motel pillows as it was thin enough. Aircon worked well enough. Even though it was only like 11C overnight outside, you can't really open the windows here as anyone could jump in.
Awake around 7 then got up and had breakfast and did computer stuff. Out the door around 9:30.
Our first stop was Flagstaff Hill. It's kinda like Old Sydney Town or Sovereign Hill but very uncrowded due to being midweek and not school holidays. Also meant there weren't as many "characters" around but that was ok. The museum at the beginning was pretty cool, with a lot of artefacts from the Loch Ard. We went up the top lighthouse then just wandered all through the place looking at the buildings and artefacts. There was a guided tour of the place at 11:30 but we were nearly done by then and didn't want to take out any more of the day.
We left at 11:45 and went back to the motel to pick up a few things then headed out again.
We went into Port Fairy first and got fish and chips and calamari and potato scallops at the exact same place at East Beach we went to four years ago which was pretty cool. It was really good too, everything was good and crispy. The seagulls were just as dedicated as last time too. We made some friends while they waited patiently for a handout. Right at the end we did consent to give them a few chips, but they did need to fly up to take them out of my hand :)
Next we headed out to the car park next to Griffiths Island and walked all the way out to the lighthouse. Of course there were people in the way weren't there. Saw lots of short tail shearwater (muttonbird) burrows, and even a wallaby - first macropod we've seen (alive) all trip.
Then we drove out to Portland.
First stop was Cape Nelson lighthouse, but all I could think of was South Solitary, which they filmed there. And of course you can't actually see the coastline properly because it's all fenced off. Typical Victoria.
Then out to the gannet colony. Fenced off of course. But there was a group of people inside the fence and when I wandered up to it the dude was like, oh I open to the public at 17:30 (it was only 16:20 at this point). So all we could see of the gannets were little white blobs wayyyyy off in the distance while another group of people got to go a lot closer. So that put me in a cranky mood.
Drove through Portland and up to the Portland Lighthouse, which had a nice view over town.
And finally back to Warrnambool, listening to Stephen Fry.
Dropped into Coles for more tv dinners (of course they didn't have McCain's veal cordon bleus did they, no no no) and ice cream (just as expensive as a servo). I had kungpao chicken and Stu had teriyaki chicken.
Although before we ate I had to book our next accommodation. Of course leaving things to the last minute meant there was very little left available and the place we ended up booking looks a little dodgy. They have a vast variation in room quality and prices, so ended up paying a small fortune for something that is hopefully decent. And Victor Harbour wasn't much better. So I was even more cranky.
Had our dinner then went to bed.
