Deck 11 Grills Terrace

I'm sure there's some crazy British explanation for the "Grills" passengers.  On the Cunard ships, Queens Grill is like first class, and Princess Grill is like business class.  But as an Australian "grill" means one of two things - a method of cooking food, or, relatedly, to interrogate/question someone.  Either way, not exactly a pleasant way to be described.

On the Queen Mary 2, grills passengers have their own private deck and hot tub.  But private is a very loose term here.  The best they do to keep the hoi polloi out is simply signs on the stairways from decks 12 and 8 saying Grills passengers only.  But how is anyone going to know?  I'm sure they'd have no way to check without asking to see your boarding card, which I can't really imagine them doing unless someone complained.

And the deck is not private at all.  In fact the hot tub is literally straight down from the deck 12 walk way.  There's more privacy in the hot tub on deck 6!

Silly really...

Grills Terrace.  Would you really want a spa in here with people standing right above you?
