Fun Stuff: January 2007 Archives

Well this was a bit before the weekend. Jake got this way-cool helicopter off ebay and was flying it around the office.

Drove down to Canberra on Wednesday night. Whereapon a little too much wine and champagne was consumed. Oops.

Slept in a bit Thursday morning, then wandered into town. Dropped into Stu's work and met a few of his colleagues, and visited Damien and got this very cute pic of him..

Then we meandered over to the Wig and Pen for beer and lunch with Scotty. Scotty couldn't resist being silly for this pic of the very different beers we ordered.

Had a little rest at Stu's house after that, then wandered back into town, via kangaroos at Weston Park ..

.. to where our cruise boat was waiting..

Damien gave us tickets for this as an engagement present. The whole night was fantabulous. It was such a pleasant atmosphere and the food was great. We even got to see the comet, which I think I was more excited than Stu was hehe. I spotted it first, and everyone else out on deck saw it too.

After we got back to Stu's, Orion was in such a good position I couldn't resist getting out my tripod and taking pics of it. Sorry to Northern Hemisphere readers, it's not my fault he looks this way to us :)

This morning we got up at the crack of dawn to go help Scotty move a fridge, but we could have had another hours sleep by they time they all got organised.

We took photos of bugs while we waited...

And then it was off to help Annie and Stu move house. Except that most stuff had been done when we got there, there was just a few bits and pieces, and all the big furniture stuff, which all the boys did. I mostly just supervised :)

I think this is a good location for their tiger, whatchareckon? :)

My view of the comet on Thursday night - ie, nonexistent

Mint flake!! I couldn't resist :)

So the weather looked good. There was nothing on the satellite. There was nothing in the sky. So I powerwalked up to my vantage point on the station car park and waited. And waited. The family, or most part thereof, were there again, this time with the husband instead of the BIL, but this time I was the first to spot the comet!! I was stoked. It was quite faint again, but clear skies meant it was fairly easily visible. I setup the camera and tripod and managed to get lots of nice photos of it! /me a happy girl :) My camera could actually see the comet a whole lot better than I could! Silly really :)

McNaught over sunset

With a plane crossing its path

Far left - comet McNaught, far right - Venus

A long exposure (15 seconds I think) gave a nice trail

Getting darker, with another plane

After that it went behind the clouds, just as the dude came back with his telescope. So he missed all but the tail of it, but may return tomorrow to have another go :)

  1. Elaborate on your default icon. Neil referred to his favicon. My favicon for this blog is a small version of the pic of me I have. My friend Gavin took the pic about five years ago when he was practising his portrait photography and needed a guinea pig. Currently it's a renamed gif file, so it works in Firefox but not in IE7. Will convert it to a proper ico file when I get around to it...

Eraser Birthday

| | Comments (2)

For Christmas, Stu gave me a way-cool scanner. This week I've been going through my "letter drawer" and scanning the cards and letters and postcards and such things, with the idea to then toss it all. I can look at things on my computer if need be.

The funniest thing I have found so far is a birthday card my friend Sally Miller from high school gave to my eraser.

You see, two years earlier, for my birthday in 1987, she gave me a toiletry (dilly or diddle) bag full of cool stuff like stationery - there included some foil stars, coloured paper clips, an eraser, and some other bits and pieces. (The toiletry bag, paper clips and stars I still have!!) It was a cool present in terms of thoughtfullness. So two years later when I turned 16, and I was still using the eraser, I must have told her about and that the eraser was now two years old. So she made me a birthday card for it.

I really need to find Sally .. and Ann ..
