The other place for spectacular views of Canberra is Black Mountain, and the tower. In 1986 it was still known as Telecom Tower. There's a lot more trees in the car park these days, so views of the tower itself are more obstructed. I couldn't get up to the top outdoor level on the day I went as it was closed. Also, the day I went in 2016 was following heavy rains, so Lake Burley Griffin was quite brown.

Just south of the tower, on Black Mountain Drive, is another lookout. The trees here aren't as well trimmed back, so it's not the best lookout.
