Last Drinks

| | Comments (0)

Last night was the last night of our work drinks in its current location.  To be moved upstairs next month.

To celebrate the end of an era I invited everyone I had a phone number for, and *heaps* of people came - the place was packed!  It was a pretty epic night, and we nearly succeeded in the mission to drink the bar dry so things wouldn't need to be moved.  Everyone that came had a great night.

Yesterday was nothing exciting, just photo scanning, sorting, labelling, and jigsawing.  We did pop out for a walk at one point because Stu wasn't feeling very well and thought some fresh air might help.  Pizza for dinner instead of the roast veggies I was going to do because he needed to collapse after handing his essays in.

Today I was asked to find some photos of someone at work, so spent the evening searching through nearly ten years of photos.  Whoops.  I did do some sorting of all those too, with the idea of labelling them at some point - before I forget who everyone is (that's already happened, will be doing some crowd-sourcing methinks).

Had a pretty quiet weekend.  Just plodding through the todo list and jigsaw.  Finished season six of Homeland (Quinn can't really be dead can he???).

Sunday evening headed down to Melbourne again for work. Took off to the south so the view from my left-side window was just of Queanbeyan, and nothing exciting from the northern approach to Melbourne.  Had dinner with Daniel, Ray and Tony at Platform 28.

Then two days of discussions and some planning, although not as many decisions made as we would have liked.

Then home again.  Again I failed, due to a left-side seat on the plane but an approach all the way around Canberra and in from the north.  If I'd been on the other side I would have seen all the lights all the way around.  Le sigh.

Have finished labelling to the end of day two of New Zealand photos.  Getting there.. oh so slowly!

Worked from home Tuesday.  Was feeling better but continued to sniffle the rest of the week.

Quiet week otherwise.  Work not too busy so had time to get a lot of my cleaning work done.

Last night we watched Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.  I had no idea what it was about before seeing it.  It was definitely a bit of tear jerker.  Ok so the plot was probably a bit unrealistic but the characters were good (and to all the critics who thought the kid was annoying to them I say "have you ever MET a kid with aspergers??").  A bit long, but enjoyed it.

Wednesday night I ran another trivia night.  This was the one we were meant to run in March but had to cancel due to lack of interest.  This time we had twelve tables, so turned out to be a pretty good night.

On Thursday night I went down to Kit's after dinner, and we ended up playing a travel version of Trivial Pursuit which was a bit of fun (you can "buzz in" to have a go at answering the question if the person getting the question doesn't answer it right).  I won the first game fairly quickly but took a lot longer to win the second game because they kept stealing my cards :)

In a strange twist of fate, the sweetie and I were in both Australia and New Zealand on Anzac Day - had a quick hop across the ditch to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary - making the most of the last of the Singapore Airlines direct flights to Wellington - in fact our flight back was the second last one.

Since we've been back I've been meaning to blog, but I'm a slacker.  I wanted to rant about the poor customer service from Netflix, and praise the fantastic customer service from Willow.  I've been busy at work but not crazy busy, in fact had time to clean things this week which was nice.

A bunch of us ended up at Rob and Fiona's last night for chilli which was nice (and not tooo spicy!), and I inflicted them with not just our New Zealand slide show, but Japan 2009, Hong Kong 2013 and East Asia 2017.  Oops.  :)

I've processed all my New Zealand photos (renamed, resized and geotagged).  And other than food shopping that's about all I've managed to achieve this weekend.  Well that and cooking half the afternoon.  Cauliflower bake and teriyaki chicken for dinner, and cheese balls for snacks.

This is my new wallpaper - Belconnen from the air

Friday night we watched The Day After Tomorrow, which wasn't as bad as we were expecting heh.  Still a bit yeah right, but a bit of fun anyway.

Saturday spent the entire day at work doing upgrades.  All went smoothly until testing at the end, which proved troublesome.  But nothing was broken so we left it and Jim sorted it the next day.  In the evening we got pizza and watched Enterprise and Homeland.

Sunday was a nice quiet day, mostly tidying the house and getting organised.  In the evening we watched Orbiter 9, a Spanish movie that we thought wasn't too bad.

And then back to it for a couple of days.  Not quite as crazy busy as last week which was good.

So Sunday was another nice quiet day at home.

I would have gone to the airport open day, but I didn't register for a ticket as soon as I found out - I tried to get in contact with my brother first.  But he was off cruising so didn't get back to me til a few days later.  By which time there were no tickets left.  I got on a wait list, got offered an afternoon spot, but by the time I saw *that* email they'd completely sold out.  Le sigh.  Still, there wasn't really anything new this year so didn't really miss much.  Just crowds.  And people.  I hate people.

So anyway, in the evening David came to stay the night which was brief but nice to see him.

Today I was just trying to keep up in the morning, then a half hour meeting that went for an hour followed immediately by a one hour meeting that went for two hours.  My legs were restless by the end of it making the last hour a special form of torture.

Stu had a crazy exhausting day as well, so we did the logical thing.  We got pizza.  Even though we have a stack of healthy food in the house.  And I felt even worse after.  Le sigh.

Friyay!

So yeah crazy busy week.

I finally finished the thing I'd been trying to finish all week late this afternoon.  And then it was home time.

There was leftovers.  And TV dinners.  And Wonder Woman.  And the Princess Bride!  And David Thewlis!

Not so Trivial

So I've spent a heap of time in the last few weeks working on the next work trivia night.

It was due to run tonight.

Except we only had five tables paid up by 11am.

So we cancelled it.

:(:(

Which is super annoying because this makes the third time that I've had to cancel due to lack of interest.

We're going to try again for early May.

So Saturday night was our work ball.  Lots of eating, drinking and dancing.  Always a great night!

Us at the ball

The room was blue.  Very very blue.

Obligatory food photos...

For entree I had the pork belly which was pretty awesome.  The sweetie had the cured salmon and crab but I didn't try any of that.

For mains the sweetie and I both had the stuffed chicken.  I found mine to be a tad dry and wasn't much of a fan of the polenta cake.  I tried a mouthful of Lachie's lamb and that was pretty nice.

We also both ended up with the lemon meringue tart, which suited Lachie and Sarah as they both wanted the chocolate lava cake.

Crazy busy week this week.  Short, but exhausting.  And no chance to relax this weekend, way too much to do.

Had lunch with the Chrises and Glenda today which was nice, although I ate too much and was struggling to stay awake.  Had a late dinner and now going to collapse into bed.

Another day of getting things done.. well, and doing crap for other people as well hehe.

Went down to Kit's for dinner (pizza was calling) and a couple of drinks and now an early night.

Ok day today, mostly just doing my own thing.

Leftovers for dinner (if I die of food poisoning it'll likely be from the rice).

Watched some Enterprise with the sweetie, worked on the trivia night (pretty much finished), then watched Postcards from the Edge, which in all this time I've never actually seen.  Did mean for a slightly late night though.

Also, fake Lego should be banned, outlawed, purged from the world.  And anyone that buys that crap sucks.  Just sayin'.

Monday

Quiet day.  Was still sad from the news of last night.  Had lunch with the sweetie which was nice.

Tonight was just Monday usual crap, and then took Chrissie's car back.

An hour of Lego while watching Addams Family, then bed time..

The Boss

ok day today.  Had a bit of a long lunch which also involved a game of darts (I got a bulls eye in my first round but didn't do very well after that haha).

This evening over to Chrissie's to pick up her car in case I need to drive while Stu is out.  She is very ready to pop.

Stu had a crazy day so I thought we should watch something a bit "light" and short.  Saw The Boss on Netflix.  We like Kristen Bell so we put it on.  Very silly movie but the light fluff we needed.

Sooo looking forward to a weekend where I *have* to be at home.

Of course saying that will jinx myself and I'll be at the hospital later.. haha

Had a pretty productive day today.  It's amazing what you can get done when people leave you alone to just get your work done!!

Did you know traffic around all of Dickson is *terrible* at 6pm at night?

I was scanning photos of the Olympics in Sydney in 2000 the other day and remembered the photo that went round the interwebs at the time of a guy doing a handstand in front of the Olympic Flame at Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush.  I had a quick Google but couldn't find it.  But I did find it in my small collection of "humour" pictures.

Crazy Weeks

Such a busy week this week. Absolutely crazy.

Took an early mark tonight and came home and played with Lego for a while before Jenn came over for dinner (vegeterian gyoza).  Jenn brought over a few of her Tequilas she got from Mexico last year for a taste testing which was pretty cool.  After dinner we played a game of Carcassonne (I won, oops).  Such a pleasant evening.

Been pretty busy.  Work.  Lego.  The usual.  ie, nothing interesting heh.

Did some food shopping tonight and finished off the last of the leftovers for dinner.  Although I did need to Tetris food into the freezer tonight so we still have a bit of work to do there!

Lego Therapy

| | Comments (2)

Had a thoroughly awful day today.  Thought was going to be picked up to go to Chrissie's appointment, but I was actually meant to pick her up.  Which meant we were late and when we were still on our way they were like, well the doctor is running late anyway, don't bother coming.  So $90 better off (so long as they don't try to charge her) but I was super stressed due to failing because of poor communication and assumtions.  We went and got lunch anyway but I was in a pretty bad mood.

And then got back in time for a meeting, but the dude was like "it's next to the kitchen" except there's *two* kitchens on his floor.  Fricken sigh.  Was in tears because of the stress of everything at one point.  And people.  Hate people.  Why can't I just sit quietly in a room and do my work and NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE????

My boss said I needed Lego therapy, so got a bit of that tonight.  And have sore fingers to show for it.
