Sunday.  23rd.  Roasted some veggies to have with some leftover meat.  Watched The Crown then had an early night.

Roast veggies

Monday.  Slept mostly ok except for numb hands every five minutes overnight.  Been really fricken annoying lately.  Sadly my ancient cory (that I got as one of five in 2015 and was the only survivor of the Two Foot Tank of Death Fiasco) had died.  This was it a couple of weeks ago when it was starting to look like maybe it was on its way out..

Day was ok.  Trying to document some stuff but finding problems.  Man I really shouldn't look at things.  Saw three of my birds at lunch.  Then it was all dingbats and numbskulls in the afternoon, including some sheer incompetance.  Leftovers for dinner (mmmmm end bits from the roast pork we did at the club Saturday night).  Finished culling days 15/16 of Europe photos.  Day 15 wasn't too bad but day 16 was pretty hard.  Too many photos that look similar and hard to choose the best.

Tuesday.  Couldn't get to sleep til past midnight :(  Then numb hands again.  Sigh.  Another crazy day with all the peeps talking to me.  Cooked creamy pasta for dinner which was nice (added a bunch of leftover peas which didn't really work texturewise but did add some vegetation).

Creamy pasta with parsley

Finished culling up to day 19.  There's a third series of War on Waste on iView, but I realised I haven't seen season two, so went back to start watching that.  Booked tickets for Indiana Jones, but seriously why TF do they charge booking fees to book online??  Surely they'd be encouraging that to save having to pay box office staff?  Dodgy Dendy strikes again.  Hate.  I probably didn't even need to book in advance, it was clear it wasn't going to be anywhere near full.

Wednesday.  Slept a bit better.  Busy day again.  Went and did a screen test at work.  I doubt they'll want me for any sort of video, but you never know for audio.  After work went and had Disappointing Sushi with the sweetie (so called because the hot stuff is *always* cold).  But because the sweetie is a regular at lunch, the owner brought out a complimentary plate of KFC, which was fresh out of the fryer and pretty awesome, so that was really nice :)

Hero Sushi KFC

Then we went and saw Indiana Jones, which I'll put in another post.

Dial of Destiny

Thursday.  Slept ok.  The sweetie didn't though.  Several nights in a row of not being able to get to sleep til like 1, 2 or 3 o'clock, stressing about All The Things (mostly work).  Poor thing.  Yet another crazy busy day.  Had a vendor meeting in the afternoon so was late to drinks :(  Pity because it was busy too.  Pizza for dinner (mac and cheese! which was actually pretty decent) then into Season 5 of Death in Paradise.

Mac and cheese pizza

Friday.  Completely overwhelming day.  Had to just STOP at one point and list All The Things that people had been hassling me about to I could prioritise to get things done.  Did manage to get a lot done (once I had a chance to breathe) and finished up at 16:00 so could head out to the club.  Slightly more relaxed this Friday than last, but not by much.  Had to have a laugh at some point because I said "Hey Siri, tell me a story", and she spouted out half a dozen bizarre little short stories.  Straight out of AI, as the text isn't Googleable.  Also, funny fire is funny..

Funny face fire

Oh, I also finished making an iceberg out of Vic's huge pile of 1x4 bricks

Lego iceberg and Titanic

Saturday.  Slept ok (and the sweetie slept somewhat better as well).  Did a bit of work around our van tidying up leaves and such, then joined the club working bee.  Just ended up helping load/unload trailerfulls of logs, and helping distribute road base on the main driveway.

Anyone know what this is??
Mystery plant

Early wattle

Came home and cooked a basa bake and a cauliflower bake (I won't mention the massive pile of MOLDY CHEESE I had to pick out after throwing on top of the cauliflower bake, WTF Woollies???) and then watched Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Basa bake

Sunday.  Woke up after 1 for over three hours.  Sigh.  Then ended up sleeping in til past 8 - two hours of my day WASTED to insomnia.  Felt completely overwhelmend with life - culling is just so damned HARD and there's so much HOUSEWORK TO DO.  In the end really all I got done was to tidy a bunch of surfaces and rearrage all the clutter somewhat.   Sigh.

Oh also, bookings247 has been hacked!!  I got an email to the email address I use only for that site (which I've actually only ever used once, to find accommodation for Kit's wedding) telling me I'd signed up for Norton antivirus.  It had my name and last four digits of my credit card.  I left a comment on their website, but bet you any money they fob me off.

Here's the email:

I'm half tempted to call the number to see what BS they spin.  But that would require talking to people.  Which I hate.  Sigh.

More Offlineness

Also while I was away, this blog and my email was offline for a few days.  There was some problem with my hosting company that they never fully explained.  Sounded a bit like a DOS, possibly from or to a compromised site.  Didn't stop the 900 or so spam messages getting through though...

Comment spam

Just clearing out my RSS feeds this morning.. one that I still haven't marked read is this comment spam gem:

Hello, i read your
blog from time to time and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you
get a lot of spam remarks? If so how do
you reduce it, any plugin or anything you can recommend?
I get so much lately it's driving me mad so any
support is very much appreciated.

Yes, someone comment spamming me talking about comment spam.  Losers.

I've also had a few more Australian companies paying comment spammers, including Red Leaf Window Cleaning of Sydney (sydneywindowcleaningservices.com.au), Gutter Cleaning Team Brisbane (guttercleaningbrisbaneservices.net.au)  - these two are possibly the same company, having the same contact mobile number, and also Cow Hide Rugs Australia of Taren Point in Sydney (cowhidesrugsaustralia.com.au).  It's really sad that these businesses have no idea about the internet and are paying lowlife SEO companies to piss bloggers like me off with comment spam.  Hate.
So I went through my comment archives and found *six* comment spams from 203.217.2.46, several of them spamvertising Australian companies.  A quick google search shows that this iiNet address has been spamming people since January.  What are iiNet doing about it?  Nothing I would guess.  I emailed their abuse address, but I doubt anything will be done.

And I'm still disgusted that Australian companies would sink so low as to pay comment spammers to increase their Google rankings.
The other day I posted this rant about an Australian company using comment spam on my blog.  Further investigation revealed six comment spams from the one iiNet IP address - 203.217.2.46.  Several of them were spamvertising Australian companies, including the first one, Adamant Solutions; as well as Washroom Products of Mawson Lakes, South Australia; ERW Engineering of St Helens Park, NSW; Unreel Fishing Charters of Melbourne; Mini Bins Adelaide; and Anything Hot Water of the Gold Coast.

The owner of the last one contacted me about the rant.  As it turns out, he had paid an SEO company called SiteClick (run by the aforementioned Adamant Solutions!) to increase his website's Google rankings.  If you look at their website, one of the things on it is this:

Link Building Campaign

Your website is submitted to thousands of online directories, websites and online article resources by our trained link building campaign staff. Submissions are setup and managed by our team of highly trained Search Engine Optimisation specialists.
So they submit their site to thousands of websites.  In other words, they use the comments feature of my blog to post a link back to these other company's websites.  In the blogiverse this is known as comment spamming and it PISSES US ALL OFF!!!!  It may not be illegal but it's damned dirty.

You know those ads for places that let you "work from home" and "all you have to do is fill in forms on the internet"?  This is what those people do.  They employ humans to get around the ReCaptchas on blogs which prevent bots from doing it.

These poor unsuspecting companies have paid SiteClick to increase their Google rankings, at the expense of giving themselves a bad name on the internet and enraging bloggers like me.
Today I got a piece of comment spam on an old blog entry spamvertising an Australian company.

I was appalled.  I expect this sort of behaviour from overseas "companies" and fly-by-nights and your other general dregs of the internet.

But for an Australian company to stoop so low as to use comment spam to increase their Google rankings is just pathetic.

If I lived in Adelaide there's certainly no way I'd ever be a customer!

You have provided an incredible resource.

Bunch of lowlife spammers!

Comment Spam

Since the beginning of the year, comment spam has been getting past reCaptcha.  It comes in waves and it's actually been relatively quiet recently.

But got one today spamvertising "www.topwritingservice.com" that was somewhat amusing.

Term papers completing utilizes a lot of time. Why loose time? This is more easy to buy essay and take a break.

So you're a "top writing service" but can't even spell "lose" correctly or make any grammatical sense at all?  I'd love to see your quality writing if you can't even spell correctly in your spam.

I guess the only people that would ever use a service like that would be those that are too stupid to know the difference between lose and loose.  And so they get what they deserve.

Nothing night

Was going to do some more scanning tonight but thought I'd wait til pizza got here.  Except we called Crust Pizza at 6:55 and it's 8:40 now (we called them again 25 minutes ago) and it's still not here.  Not happy!!

In other gripes.  ReCAPTCHA has been cracked, so I've been getting more and more comment spam coming through :(:(  So now going to have to figure out some other way of stopping the spam that doesn't take me a whole weekend to figure out and implement :/

Just for fun, here's a couple of fishie pics I took last week.

Stu called them again.  They're just going to do it now.  And give us credit for the next time.  *sigh*

Movable Type Nonsense

While trying to publish my previous entry (Synthy), I was getting horrible permission denied errors.
Grrr just got another one and will have to redo this post :(
It wasn't the usual /tmp full problem this time.  Looks like you can't use i f r a m e code in MT posts... hrmm...
hell you can't even *say* it... most disturbing!!  And very frustrating given that I've just had to redo this post *again* :(

The other bit of nonsense I was looking at while trying to figure this out, is that since August 4, I've been getting several core dumps a day in my MT cgi directory.  I looked through the logs at these times and sure enough, comment spammers were hitting my blog at the time :(  Might have to upgrade a dot point or something...
