Misc Pics

Just a few pics that have been floating around..

I enjoy Heather Armstrong's writing, and have been reading her blog for probably eleven or twelve years since Chay introduced me to it.

But I HATE having to go to her website to read it.  Just look at this crap.  Where's the actual content?  On this page there is literally one line of content.  The rest is adverts and links to other posts.  And the adverts aren't subtle either, they're animated in-your-face monstrosities.  Urgh.  Hate it.

A poppy that actually grew as a weed in one of my pots out the back.

This is pretty cool.  A model of Belconnen Mall in Belconnen Mall!  From when it was first built in the seventies.  Remeber Venture?  And Franklins?

I love Canberra.  These guys just minutes from work!

These miniature roses never really did very well .. until we removed the oak tree and gave them some light.  They totally went off this year.

It's Friday but it doesn't really feel like it.  I'm sure I'm going to wake up tomorrow thinking I'm going to have to go to work.

Spent this evening scanning another 67 photos from (mostly) 1991.  Last year of high school, so a few of the last weeks of school.  Lots of memories there.  I tried emailing Chris (Crust) on her last birthday earlier this week but got no response, so no idea if the email address works (I got it a year or so ago) or if she just doesn't like me anymore heh (I'm terrible at keeping contact with people).  Oh crap, that reminds me, I never wrote to Linenoise! Gah!

And also the study camp where I met my first boyfriend Mark, and our high school formal.

And a few other bits and pieces.  Including some experimental photos my brother took, probably in mid-late 1991, of the stars and other long exposure experiments.

And a picture of my collection of models in 1992, with considerably less dust on them than they do now..

Pulled my models out of their storage boxes today, making this the first time I've seen them since I packed them up before leaving Sydney in 2007.  Now that the big bookshelves have been replaced downstairs, I can reclaim them for my models.

The models survived two moves quite well.  Maybe only one or two things had damage from the moves which was really good.

They all need dusting, and a few need minor repairs.  I will be attaching clear plastic to the shelves so at least they won't get dusty again in the future...

This little sparrow came up to us yesterday hoping for a handout..

Scrawny sparrow
Stu got this at Cancon.  A word of warning though - these are incredibly "cheap" t-shirts (in quality if not in price - $25!), and this one split open (not even on a seam) after its first wear.

Who's your marder
Some of my Australia Day weekend was spent built making models.

Hence the need for a trip to Fyshwick yesterday to get some paint.

This was what I needed it for:

F-15 Eagle model
Cute huh?  A guy at work got it free at EB games, but wasn't going to build it, so I said I would.  Hope it doesn't get smashed in the office..  Unfortunately it's Revell, which is a "cheap" brand, and badly designed - it's tail-heavy but there's no instructions to weight it down at the front, and by the time you notice after attaching the wheels it's too late :(

And here's something I saw when it first came out in 1990 and regretted for years afterwards not buying at the time.  So a couple of years ago I got one on eBay :)
