Lights

Saw this super cool light wall in the Canberra Centre the other week.  It's interactive - you can press the lights and they change colours and turn on/off.  I totally want one.

Also saw this and thought it was pretty cool.  Is there anything more you need in life?

I liked the way a shaft of light fell across my notebook in a training course a while back

This was at the Labor Club.  They called this a "light" meal, but there was nothing light about it.  Fries, topped with cheese and bacon and baked.  Epic awesome but we couldn't finish it (I even had help).  I'd have been better off getting the chicken kiev..

Coming soon.
Maybe next year.
I never tire of taking crazy light photos.  I really should practise more and try different things..

And here's a pic of the moon last week (full pixels - the 105mm would make this smaller :( )

Other than that a pretty standard Monday.  Actually had a bit of a lull in my crazy todo list so did some operational stuff.  Not much tonight other than a full backup of my hard drive.

Christmas Day 2010

As a prequel, Potty called up last night to see if we wanted to go for a drive to see Christmas lights.

Did a bit of a drive around and saw some nice displays, but saved Amagula Ave in Ngunnawal for last (this was actually a repeat viewing for me, although I never got around to posting my other pics.. prolly won't now).

Today was pretty relaxed.  Got up and ready, and then we opened a couple of presents.  Or rather, I opened Stu's presents to himself (still in postage wrapping).. mine to myself weren't wrapped.  The most exciting thing I did open was the wedding photo book I'd had done for the parents' Christmas present.  It turned out really well (maybe slightly dark).  Have a couple of little changes to make before I get our copy printed.

Then wrapped up all the family presents and we headed out to Yass for lunch.  Aside from slightly feral kids going nuts with presents before we'd even arrived, the day was lovely and also quite relaxed.

Haven't eaten anything since this arvo .. hope I don't wake up at 4am starving heh.

Christmas in a bowl

One of my mother's traditions at Christmas is Savoury Shapes.  It seemed she had these as nibblies on most Christmas family occasions.  To me Savoury Shapes are the flavour of Christmas.

Had a good morning today.  Didn't really get any actual work done, but did get my news feeds down to almost zero (finished at home getting them down to 4 unread!!).

Had a somewhat frustrating afternoon.  Was going to go home at the specified lunch time, but then the sweetie asked me to pick up something from the shops, as did Annie.  So decided to go get lunch and do the shopping.  And the sweetie met me for lunch which was lovely.  But then I got home only to find I'd missed a FedEx delivery by a whole ten minutes!! Epic doh!!!  So called up FedEx and the only way I was going to get my parents' Christmas present was to drive out to Fyshwick to get it.  Grunt!!

So I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't just relax like I'd planned.  But then I read JC's update on his house fire, and Dawn's update on her kids and everything was put into perspective somewhat.  Coupled with an hour driving around with my sweetie and a couple of glasses of wine and felt a lot better.

Cooked a super nom roast pork for dinner (slow roasted all afternoon) .. also a flavour of Christmas!

Last night was going to be the last night I had up my Christmas lights for the year, so the last opportunity to have some fun with them.  They're 100Hz, so dotty.  I'll have to setup the incandescent ones somewhere one year to get solid lines.. :)

My Saturday

So the little brother turned up late last night, and we stayed up well into the morning doing a jigsaw.  Finished it today.

Then while Stu went out for a swim, I put up the Christmas tree and lights

I also called Hardly Normal to see if they had the Claremont buffet on special.  On the occasions we've been there before they had it for sale for $1399.  Their price today?  $1350.  Sorry, not worth a trip to Fyshwick for that.  When it's under $1000 we'll talk.

The sweetie cooked some pasta for dinner while I watched Ratatouille.  And I ate most of the rest of the parmesan cheese, cause it's so nommm :)

Was amused to see the star out in the cherry tree..

11pm.  The little brother is on the booze train to Tarago tonight.  We might see him later.  Although the sweetie is staying up to watch Slaughterhouse Five, so I might wander off to bed...

Nightfest in Pictures

So last night we met up with Nat and Andrew and went to Floriade Nightfest.

I've never been before so I didn't know what to expect.  I imagined more of a light show, with flowers being light up by coloured lights or fairy lights or something.  So in that sense I was a little disappointed, as there wasn't really much of that.  But there were some pretty things and we ended up staying til after 10pm.

Of course the first problem was getting in.  The tickets said 6:30pm, so that's when we arrived.  As did everyone else who had a ticket.  So all these people started crowding around and it was all a bit unorganised cause people didn't know if there were two different queues for people with or without tickets or what.  Took about twenty minutes to get through the gates.  I think if we were going to do it again we'd turn up at 7pm and be done with it.  But don't really think it was worth the $20 to do it again.

More photos after the jump...
My LED fairy lights have to be the prettiest things in the Universe...

After having lost two of the blue leds in the great fire-lighting-light-melting escapade of 2008 :(  pulled apart melted sockets today and rearranged the bulbs for a better lighted set next year (need some electrical tape tho - David can you help? :) ).  Everytime I walked past them all on the floor tonight I got very excited :)

Will be putting them away til next November tomorrow - very sad making!
