Zombie Day

| | Comments (1)

So I woke up this morning at around 2am.  And didn't get back to sleep til around 4:30am.

Hurrah.

Stoopid brain wouldn't shut up, and when I could get it to shut up ever so briefly I felt every little pin prick of my stoopid nerves and an irritated nose sure didn't help.

So I was a zombie today.

And tonight I was so tired I couldn't really concentrate on anything, so after Enterprise we watched an episode of The Layover in Taipei by Anthony Bourdain, which was that much more poignant to watch after his death this week.

Bit of a crazy week.

Thursday after drinks the sweetie and I tried out Yat Bun Tong for dinner.  We got some xiao long bao and other dumplings and shallot cake which were all nice enough.

Yat Bun Tong - Shallot cake I think

Friday we met up with Damien and Amanda at the Dickson Dumpling House, for more xiao long bao, more dumplings and a shredded duck and noodle dish and a tofu dish (where I bit into a piece of chili and it *hurt*).

Friday night I could. not. get. to. sleep.  Lay in bed for three hours before finally falling into a restless sleep.

So Saturday I was a complete zombie.  Couldn't concentrate on anything and my eyes were aching all day.  So I did what any sensible person would do - had a couple of glasses of wine and went to bed early.  Got nearly nine hours sleep and feel a *lot* better today!

Zombie Day

Been having altogether too many of these.  Woke up at 4:30 and never got back to sleep :(

But backing up a little.

Had a nice quiet weekend.  Did pop out on Saturday for fish stuff, uni to borrow a book for the sweetie and food shopping.  Other than that mostly just Lego and house bits.  Didn't get as much done as I'd have liked, but did get some things done.

Saturday night we watched The Fellowship of the Ring.  Started a bit after six, finished about 10:30.

Last night we went over to EffanC's in the afternoon and chatted for a while, then had a lovely dinner, then watched The Disaster Artist.  So well done it was cringe-worthy heh.

Dinner at EffanC's

Went to bed at normal time.  Stu stayed up late.  I didn't get to sleep til 1am.

Hurrah.

So zombie today.

Got three rounds of trivia entered into the presentation.  Got through two rounds before Open Office ran out of memory.  Blerf.  But I was saving a copy at the end of entering each round, so that when it corrupts my file I won't lose more than a round.  Learnt that lesson the hard way last time...

Blades and Zombies

| | Comments (0)

Last night we went over to EffanC's and got Indian for dinner and watched Blade Runner 2049.  Yeah pretty average movie.  So much left unresolved and too many "what the" moments and quite dark (we ditched the 3D glasses about two minutes in and went back to 2D).  Didn't really enjoy it.. it was too .. messy ..

Tonight I managed to get one beer before the sweetie wanted to go home and Chrissie was convinced she was going into labour at any moment.  This was after waking up at 4am with a brain that wouldn't shut up and a spine that wouldn't stop hurting, so I was a zombie today.  No labour so far so I'm going to collapse into bed, after achieving exactly nothing tonight.

Speaking of Zombies..

Went to bed at 10pm.  Woke up at 3am.  Had about an hour or so worth of sleep after that.  Hurrah.  Zombie day today.

Went food shopping this morning then the sweetie spent all afternoon mashing 9kg of potatoes (I peeled most of them!).  Then at the very last minute (a couple of hours notice) Stu's dad came over for dinner.  I went across the road for some salady bits and did some pasta which was actually quite nice (used most of the basil plant I've been growing all summer!).

Inflicted Stu's dad with our last holiday slide show, then headed down to Kit's for a drink.

In other news, two hundred and thirty years ago today some ancestors of mine got off a boat a few hundred kilometres from here, and for that we get a holiday..

And now it's way past my bed time..

So we'd been planning to go out to the club today.

But then I woke up at dentist time.  And lay there for two hours.  Got up for an hour and read feeds.  Then lay in bed for another hour.  Finally got about another hour and a half's sleep, but was still a zombie this morning.

Cooked David some breakfast, then he headed home.

Stu also didn't sleep very well so we decided we'd avoid people and stay home.

I spent the afternoon cleaning out drawers and cupboards in the kitchen, wiping them out and decluttering them.  I'm selling/giving a way a few things.  Selling the juicer and the ice cream maker - anyone interested?  And giving away a blender, a toasted sandwich maker and a coffee grinder.  Felt a lot better for having actually achieved something today, and getting some much needed down time.

In the evening I cooked up some fish (that we got last weekend but everything kept getting in the way and we hadn't cooked it yet), with some mushrooms and salad.  Watched the third episode of Star Trek Discovery, which was a lot better than the previous two, and then watched Look Who's Talking Too.

9pm and it's totally bed time..

Ok not literally.  But I did need to put a jumper on today.  And I feel like I may need an extra doona tonight.  Yipe.

Where were we?

Wednesday James was in town for work so we caught up at Bella Vista for dinner.

Friday night we watched a bit of tv, then I put up our Christmas tree.

Saturday was pretty much all just house stuff and food shopping.  Didn't have time to do any of my jigsaw but did fully dismantle the Life jigsaw back into baggies (we only dismantled it enough to get into bags on assembly day).

Life jigsaw in baggies

In the evening Anita came over and she talked all night.  Did a super yummy pork belly for dinner and got plenty of leftovers.  (I did burn the top slightly when grilling it at the end).

Oh did I mention I had insomnia *again* on Friday night?  This time I woke up at 3:30am and never got back to sleep.  After getting up a couple of times to eat something because I was hungry, I finally gave up around 6am.  So I had a relatively early night Saturday night because I was exhausted.

Sunday was a bit of house stuff and a fair bit of jigsaw.  I also went cherry picking.  This is the biggest crop of cherries I've ever gotten off our tree.  They don't taste super great, and the dark purple juice will stain your whole mouth purple, but hey, phytochemicals!

Cherry picking

In the evening we went over to EffanC's for cheese for dinner (yumm ;) ) and to watch The Room.  Yes, that one.  Ok I'd never heard of it, but everyone said it was supposed to be like one of the worst films ever made.  They certainly weren't wrong.  It was terrible.  It was so terrible it was *hilarious*.  Fun times :)

Back to Mondays

Friday night we finished the last episode of Voyager where they finally get home.  The last season had some pretty good episodes.  But now I'm looking forward to a break in *having* to watch an episode every night.  It just takes up so much time.  Then we watched The Tuxedo.  Because hey, Jason Isaacs, if only for a little bit.  And Jackie Chan.  Completely ridiculous fluff but a bit of fun.

Went to bed relatively early Friday night, but then woke up at about 1:30am.  And did not get back to sleep.  Til like 5:30am.  And then a couple of hours of broken sleep.  I was a complete zombie on Saturday.  I didn't have the energy to do *anything*.  Certainly no house work. I think I did about an hour or so of jigsaw and that was it.

After lunch we headed out to the club.  I helped decorate the hall while others prepped dinner.  Then we had a swim which was nice.  Fiona did a huge Christmas feast which was pretty epic.  I even managed to stay awake into the evening heh.  Came home before midnight.

Club Christmas

Slept a lot better Saturday night (although only for about six hours).  So Sunday was bits and pieces of housework, jigsaw and food shopping.  Cooked pizzas for dinner and watched an episode of The Good Place, and then Sisters.  I'd said "something fun" for a movie to watch, and that's what we got.  hrmmmmmm! :)

Last night was an even better nights sleep so that was good.  I've finished scanning the last four albums mum brought down, with only their wedding album to go.  But it's very big and all the photos are glued in, so won't be able to scan it on the flatbed, so thinking of other ways to digitise it. Probably have it outside and just take digital photos of it.

Not Much

Been pretty quiet lately.

Last weekend was super quiet - we only left the house to do some food shopping on Sunday.  But even though I didn't get a super huge amount of stuff done, at least I had a mental break, which I relished and felt the better for.

This week has been somewhat busy at work, but a couple of bouts of insomnia made things challenging.  Tuesday night I just couldn't get to sleep and so was a zombie on Wednesday.  Wednesday night I got to sleep around 9:30 but then woke up at at 1:15 and stayed awake for two or three hours. *sigh*

Also made these the other night:  Jamie Oliver's Asian fish cakes.  They were pretty should.  Should try them again some time.

Jamie's asian fish cakes

Tonight it's 8:30pm and I totally feel ready for bed.

Surviving

| | Comments (0)

A new series of Survivor started this week.  Except I didn't see it on Sunday night, so had to watch it online on Monday night.  Which meant I had to watch Monday's on Tuesday and Tuesday's on Wednesday.  Which would have been fine except watching the episodes on TenPlay is absolutely horrendous experience.  Internet Explorer will start to pixelate the picture after a while, requiring a browser restart.  Chrome does a slightly better job but it still freezes up or drops out.  Mostly a browser restart will take you back to the same position, but other times it forgets and you have to guess the time you were up to.  But the worst part is every time it drops out you have to watch all the ads all over again.  And if you slide the time position *at all* it plays all the ads all over again.  It takes much longer to watch it online than it would live to air.  And the worst part about the ads?  Not only you do you see the same ads at each break, but you often see the same ad two or three times in the same ad break!  Absolutely horrific experience.

We're nearly through season four of Voyager, and I've been watching more Air Crash Investigations as well.

Last night we watched Tim Burton's Batman which I hadn't seen in years.  I still think Michael Keaton is super cute in that movie.  And I annoyed the sweetie by quoting the script here and there ;)

Woke up at 3am and didn't get back to sleep til 6am.  Epic fricken sigh.  Stoopid brain.  Stoopid spine.  So a very late start today.

Today we went out to Fyshwick because Stu needed some stuff for work.  I tried to get more ram for my old netbook but they didn't have any small enough.  May need to consider getting a new one (it's like five years old).  Or just getting some ram off ebay.

Then did a big shop at Coles to pick up all the stuff that we can't get at the markets.  Jamison still hasn't fixed their abysmal trolley situation.  They still only have two trolley bays at the very top of the car park and none anywhere around the bottom.  And even the ones they do have are broken.  We are only going to Jamison now as a last resort.  The silly thing is, it's not even a cost issue.  Given that Coles is generally cheaper for most things, we could afford a dollar to just dump the trolley wherever.  But for me it's the principle of the thing.  The ACT government needs to wake up to itself and realise forcing supermarkets to force trolley locks is not actually doing anything.  Because I still see trolleys dumped all over Belconnen with no coins in them!  Clearly this idea is just plain stoopid and is having absolutely no positive effect whatsoever.

/rant

Tonight I did a cauliflower bake and an evil chicken with three cheese and bacon stuffing.  Sooo good ;)

So now that the internet is working again, we've been able to start watching tv again.

On Monday night we watched Jobs.  Was Steve Jobs really that much of an asshole?

We're back into season one of Voyager.

And we've just started up season five of Homeland.

I tried to cook fondue last night.  But I didn't follow a recipe and failed.

Tonight I ate a bunch of the veggies from last night, but with a bechamel sauce with *lots* of cheese.  Almost as good I guess.

I'm so tired...

Twice this week I've woken up in the middle of the night and not gotten back to sleep for *hours* - brain just would. not. shut. up.  Even meditation techniques - concentrating on breathing and chanting Go. The f@!%.  To sleep - didn't help.  Not only are you a complete zombie at work, but then evenings are wasted because you're too tired to do anything, and end up having to go to bed early.  Such a waste of time.

In other news, I went to the dentist this week after one year instead of twenty.  Yay me.

A few days

Late Thursday afternoon Ben invited us over for dinner (lamb roast, with Serena's awesome gravy) so that was nice.

Cheese at Ben's

Ben dinner

Friday night we watched a German movie - Look Who's Back - about what might happen if Hitler existed in modern day Germany.  It's labelled a comedy, and yes there are some funny moments, but it was all just a bit *scary* for me about the possibility of history repeating itself.

Saturday morning we headed out to Fyshwick to go to Material Pleasures to see if I could get some clothes for this boat trip we're going on.  Except the place was shut down until Monday for Christmas.  So that was a waste of a trip.  So we went to Hardly Normal to look at vacuum cleaners.  Except every fricken cordless vacuum cleaner comes with a roller brush head that would get tangled up instantly with my hair.  So that was all very frustrating.

Came home and just did a bit of house stuff.  Not much, just taking down Christmas decorations.

This morning I woke up at around 3am and I've been awake ever since.  Stressing about vacuum cleaners (the one Stu is looking at is basically a glorified dustbuster, which I can't see how would be any improvement on the vacuum cleaner we already have, aside from easing the hurdle of actually *starting*), and that my bowels hurt (I think I'm dying).

Sigh.

So this was the breakfast lasagna I was talking about the other day.  Here's all the ingredients.  Eggs, pork mince, ham, and cheeeeeese!

Breakfast lasagna

18 eggs!  Count them!  Just scrambled lightly.

Breakfast lasagna

500g pork mince cooked through, then add 500g cream cheese and a cup and a half of stock (next time: plain water)

Breakfast lasagna

Cook until the cheese has melted.

Breakfast lasagna

Everything ready to layer

Breakfast lasagna

Layering.  Pretty much just ham, eggs, "gravy", cheese .. times two

Breakfast lasagna

Breakfast lasagna

Ready to bake for about forty minutes or so

Breakfast lasagna

Done!

Breakfast lasagna

This morning I actually got to try some of it.  It was pretty awesome.  Although very salty :(  Too much ham and cheese I guess.

And in other news, I woke up at dentist time this morning and probably only got about another hours worth of sleep all night :(:(:(

Busy, Insomnia

Last night was get home, cook dinner, eat dinner, watch an episode of Homeland, go for a walk with Chris and Ben, and by then it's a quarter to nine, and I still wanted to process a day of photos and needed to wash my hair.  So only just made it to bed by 11pm.

Veggie baking

And then woke up at something like 4:30 with a brain that wouldn't SHUT UP! and only a bit of broken sleep after than.

Tonight was get home, cook dinner, eat dinner, watch an episode of Homeland - and that's in between drama of people with broken down cars and freecycle people all competing for my time as well!  Gaaahhhh!!!  Drama.

Not as bad as Chrissie's dramas of course, with aforementioned broken down car (which isn't even her car).  Petrol gauge was broken and after having been assured that the car had plenty of petrol, it didn't, and she ran out of fuel.  Fun times.  Not.  Especially in peak hour traffic.  Fortunately her neighbour was able to rescue her.

And now it's nearly 8pm.

Better get stuck into the photos I guess...

At least it's Thursday tomorrow!

And here's a photo of a cockatoo, taken way back in February..

Well that was fun.  NOT.

Wait, that was a few nights ago.

hrmm

So Friday night after getting home I slept really well.  Fine all day Saturday.  Saturday night I woke up in the middle of the night for hours and was a zombie on Sunday.  Sunday night I had a few drinks and slept pretty well so was fine on Monday.  Monday night I slept quite well.  Tuesday was also good, but Tuesday night I woke up in the middle of the night for hours and was a zombie on Wednesday.  Can't. Fricken. Win.

Wednesday night we (read: DC and Duncan and Doc and Chris and even Jai, but not me) won the fricken trivia night.  A-fricken-gain!

But at least I slept well.

Today the second-place-getters at trivia took us up on our begging offer to run the next trivia night so that was a huge relief!

Tonight Ben was going to come up but then didn't.  hrmmm

So instead I watched the video that came with one of my installs of Windows - Windows ME I think - which had Alanis Morissette cutting off her hair - which suits her sooooooo much better than the long hair around her face.  And that got me onto watching one of her episodes of You Can't do that on Television which I can't believe I've never actually referenced on this blog!  (sorry: scratch that, I did mention it once, two years ago).

Yeup.

Sleep

| | Comments (0)

So I got home at midnight on Friday night and slept til about 8am.

Saturday we went out to the club for a committee meeting, so I downloaded the last of the photos and wrote up the last day's blog entry.  Had a late lunch in Bungendore so didn't get home til after 3pm.  Cooked a roast chicken dinner and watched some Homeland and Inside Out.  I was expecting Inside Out to be a lot darker and more depressing than it was so was pleasantly surprised.  Then had an early night.

Of course I woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep.  For four hours.  And then it was broken sleep.  Woke up around 9am but my spine wouldn't let me get back to sleep so got up around 10am and was a zombie for the rest of the day.  Really didn't get anything done at all.  Although we did go out and do our food shopping.

Went down to Kit and Ben's after dinner for some wine, which made me sufficiently sleepie and managed a pretty good night's sleep last night.

Now for the fun part.. going back to work..

Friday morning I was actually excited to go to work.  I really wanted to test the thing I'd be doing on Thursday.  Except I couldn't get it to work.  So went back to feeling demoralised.

Friday night I woke up some time after denist time, and probably only got another hour or two's sleep.  So I was a zombie for Saturday.

Which of course we had to go to Sydney for.  My cousin's wedding in Dee Why.  Which was actually a lovely afternoon/evening.  Will post some photos soon.  We decided to stay in a quiet place in Oxford Falls for the night rather than going back to mum's.  We went to bed at something like 9:30 and apart from needing to go to the toiley in the middle of the night, I slept pretty solidly til about 6am.  So Sunday morning I felt great heh.  Had a simple breakfast at the motel then dropped by Dan and Emma's to see their crazy big old house in Gordon.  Then headed home.

Yesterday afternoon was just getting things done.  I have so much to do in the next week it's ridiculous.  Need to remember to breathe.

I think it was Thursday night that we watched Star Trek Generations.  I can't actually remember.  Could have even been Wednesday.  Or even Friday.  No don't think it was Friday.

Friday morning I woke up at 3am and never got back to sleep.  Damned insomnia.  Annoying too because I had a *lot* of work to do on Friday.  Didn't really get it all done either.  Had lunch with Doc and Neil at Chatterbox though because I had a voucher I won last year.  On Friday evening the little brother and Kat came to stay.  We worked on a jigsaw and I had an early night.

Chatterbox risotto

Saturday I was at work all morning replacing firewalls.  It actually all went fairly smoothly.

In the afternoon I was all set to settle down and *get things done* when EffanC called us up and invited us over.  Which was lovely.  But it did mean I was out all afternoon.

Went home before dinner.  Had pizza for dinner.  Watched Footloose on tv (because I'd never actually seen it!)

Sunday morning was the Airport Open Day.  Spent all morning there.

In the afternoon Dave and Kat left, replaced by Graham and Pam.  We chatted for the afternoon (Pam has grand plans for our garden.  I'd rather not have a garden at all).  Then because we hadn't had any time to ourselves all weekend, and therefore no time to do any shopping, we went out to Dumpling Inn for dinner.

Dumpling Inn Shallot Cake

Dumpling Inn Three Cup Wine Chicken

Dumpling Inn Pork ribs

Dumpling Inn Xiao Long Bao

Dumpling Inn Shredded Beef

Today I just felt like I needed a weekend to recover from my weekend.  At least Stu got a bit of down time.

Today started off ok at work.  No dramas from the firewalls.  Just the proxies.  *sigh*  Got quite depressed about the whole thing actually.

Came home exhausted, hungry, tired and grumpy.  Had dinner, then helped move Kit's lizard (and associated large tank) down to Chris's.  Then just trying to catch up on life.  Have now finished geotagging all my Canon and iPhone photos from the last trip.

I'm tired.
