Busy weekend

| | Comments (0)

So this weekend consisted of:

* photographing Cotter and Stromlo
* driving to Sydney and a dinner with mum for our birthdays (had pork ribs - yum!)
* awake at stoopid o'clock
* finally getting to see the Sea Cliff Bridge up close
* driving home
* house tidying, bed changing, sheet washing, Survivor watching, tuna bake cooking.

Tradies Ribs

I'm still trying to get through old food in the house.  I dug out four tins of tuna that had gotten mouldy from being out at the club (the labels, not the tuna) and two small tins of creamed corn that had been in the pantry forever.  Mixed them with a small thing of cream from across the road, a sachet of cream of mushroom soup, and a clove of pickled black garlic, then over half a pack of pasta, topped with cheese then baked for forty minutes.  For something so random it was quite delicious, and there's a bunch less things in the pantry now.

Friday night after a completely blah week Chrissie suggested drinks and takeaway.  We said so long as no drama then ok.  So we did that and it was quite nice.

Saturday was mostly housework and trying to sort out paperwork.  Cause that's all I seem to do on weekends.

Saturday night was going to be a p0ker night but Serena was very sick and we had to cancel, so we decided to go to the movies.  Went and saw Star Trek Beyond.

Sunday I mostly spent doing puzzles - nonograms and jigsaws.  Went to lunch at Casey Jones with Annie and the family (food was pretty good - I had pork belly (no crackling tho) - but the service was pretty slow - they've only just opened so still finding their feet), then went back to their place for dessert and mostly did a jigsaw they'd had out for ages not getting done.

Then the little brother and Kat arrived.  Had KFC for dinner (somewhat of a tradition).  We finished the 1500 piece jigsaw I had out, then smashed out a 1000 piece jigsaw in the evening.

Tonight David and Kat came back cause their day at the museum finished a lot later than they'd hoped.  So we did a 500 piece jigsaw.  As you do.

Argo and Stuff

Friday night we watched Argo.  I liked it, aside from constantly thinking "did this *actually* happen?".  Well the plane chase apparently didn't.  heh.

Had a pretty quiet weekend.  Did a lot of housework and stuff.  Geotagged a few days worth of photos.  Did food shopping yesterday.  Watched several episodes of TOS.  This afternoon I pretty much just cooked all afternoon.  First up a raspberry crumble from a packet of frozen raspberries that had been in the freezer probably since I inherited them off Potty at the end of last year.  Then a breakfast lasagna.  Then a real lasagna (prepared but not baked yet).  Had a break to have a walk at the very muddy Palmerville.  Then finished up with a small roast for dinner.

The sweetie made good progress on his essay until he got a migraine tonight :(

Now we're both going to have an early night.

So Friday night after the hot water dramas, headed out with Kit and Serena for a couple of drinks at the George.  Then came home and had a nice early night.

Saturday spent pretty much the whole day alternating between Nonogram puzzles and housework.  Tidied the spare room, the bedroom, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, vacuumed half the house, washed some sheets.  I think that was all.  Then Potty and Jake arrived so chilled out with them for the rest of the arvo.  Cooked a lamb roast for dinner.

Today we had a fairly lazy start to the day.  I might have gotten more stuff done in the afternoon, but I started feeling fuzzy like I'm coming down with something.  This time there's a bit of a cough as well.  *sigh*  So really didn't get anything much done today :(  The sweetie has been feeling pretty blah too - all weekend in fact.  Fun times.. not.. :(

After Friday's success I am *itching* to get my other firewall done sooner rather than later.  Except risk-averse people have scuttled the idea until later in the week.  Doh!!  Oh well, got some other stuff done today which is helping my confidence somewhat.

Tonight was just pool stuff, washing, cooking and watching House and Fuller House.  9:20 before I could finally relax.  But we cooked one of Serena's *epic* zucchinis, as well as a couple of old zucchinis, some old garlic, some old mushrooms, a pepper from Kit's, parsley from Kit's, and some meat we got at the markets yesterday.

Before and After

So here's some before and after shots of the fish area in the garage, the other corner of the garage, and the fridge.

To the untrained eye, they may not look that different in the before and afters (except the fish area), but trust me, they are *much* tidier!

Garage - before Garage - after

So mum was here overnight Christmas night.  So didn't really get anything much done Boxing Day morning (we did beat the rain on a walk down to Chris' and raced back up during a brief lull - it pretty much rained solidly all day which was *awesome* for Canberra).  Around midday she headed down to visit the little brother in Junee.  I built SPACESHIP!! as well as started a jigsaw mum brought down for me.

In the evening Kit and later Ben came up for a while.

Yesterday morning I completely tided up the fish tank corner of the garage.  Things had been dumped there for months and you had to climb over things just to feed the fish.  Felt so much better to be able to go up to the fish tank without tripping over anything.

I also cleaned the kitchen and then almost completely cleared out the fridge.  I pulled everything out except the condiment shelf, cleaned the shelves, threw out some yukky stuff (including something of Potty's that had rotted in sealed plastic cups that once they were out of the fridge expanded and went off with a BANG - it was soooo loud it made my ears ring and I screamed.. Stu put ear plugs in and took the other cup outside and popped it out there), and then rearranged everything back into the fridge in an orderly fashion.  Felt so much better to have a clean fridge and be able to find everything again!

Then mum arrived back from Junee so didn't get anything much done after that.  Leftover roast pork for dinner.

Today while mum was out and about I spent probably six hours tidying the "workshop" corner of the garage in front of my car.  Mostly just organising all the crap that had just been dumped there over the past year or so.  Felt so much better to be able to walk around that area of the garage without tripping over anything, and be able to find stuff again.

Also did a wander to feed Doc's cat, and pickup a key to feed Annie's cat.

Weekend socialising

Last Saturday we went over to EffanC's to celebrate C's (ahem) 25th.  So that was a lovely afternoon of drinking bubbly and chatting.  In the evening we watched Juno on the big screen.

Last Sunday Chrispycon and Anne were in town from Hong Kong, so we met up with them and a bunch of their friends at Manuka for drinks.

Last night was a BBQ at Kit's, just because.

In between has been working, house cleaning, fish buying, mandarin learning, cooking.

!

Yesterday I was feeling completely overwhelmed by the state of the house.  So Stu wisely told me to just work on one pile, which I did.  So that was good.

Dad's photo scanning is coming along.  I'm up to 260 out of the thousand-odd needing to be scanned.  I'm half way through his photos of our Kangaroo Island holiday in 1994.

Stu has bought a heap of plants and some native fish for his four foot tank.  I've gotten some danios for the two foot, and some more danios to start again on the "angel" tank.  Stu has also setup a tiny little tank with some cherry red shrimp which are very cute.

I've pulled apart the Ingress Lego logos.  I'm really wanting to find a new mosaic design to use.  The current big mosaic was made in February 2009!!  And has been hung up in the spare room since November 2009.  That's just insane.

And tonight I've got a better than average chance of completely bricking my phone by upgrading it from 6.1.4 to 9.1.  I might have spent ages today making sure I have everything that I care about backed up off it.

I built a pool

OK so I didn't.  I actually didn't do all that much at all.

But after a weekend of work, we have a new pool at the club.

Monday was just catching up on housework.  Why does it never end?  Why do we *always* have a messy kitchen/house??

Whoops so I didn't post all weekend..

This ring tail possum was at the club on NYE.  I touched its tail because I could.

Friday was super hot.  The birds were suffering.  Crows and magpie larks were coming to the fountain at the Labor Club to get a drink and cool off in the shade.

Crow at the Labor Club

Did our food shopping and came home.

Saturday I did some housework, and got a bit annoyed that it feels like I'm *always* cleaning the house.  It's just never ending :/

We did jump in the pool to cool off though which was nice.

In the evening we went over to EffanC's to have a glass of bubbly and some cheese before we went to the movies.

Then back to their place for a fairly late dinner (of some very nice quiche and salad).

Sunday was more suffering in the heat.

In the afternoon mum came down from Sydney to stay.  She *finally* had a swim in our pool (for one reason or another it'd never happened before).  I had a beef stew going in the slow cooker all afternoon.  For dessert we had Heston Blumenthal's Hidden Orange Pudding.  I'd seen these advertised on tv before Christmas, but didn't get one.  Then on Friday saw them for half price so grabbed one.  It was pretty good.

And today was back in the deep end trying to stay afloat again.

Well not for Stu anyway ..

Yesterday morning was a pretty slow start.  Got out the door eventually and went to This Cafe in Gungahlin for brunch.  I had eggs benedict, which was reasonable (although the bacon was on the side which was a little odd).  But we were sitting by the door, which didn't close properly, and let a gale in every time someone came through, until the sweetie leaned over and closed it.  Most irritating.

Went out to Wintercon at EPIC and had a look around.

Then did our food shopping and came home.

I did a bit of cleaning of PVC goo with acetone in the afternoon.

After dinner we went over to Annie's for a while to catch up.

This morning I got a bit of housework done in the morning.

Then Stu got a phone call from Annie.  She'd fallen (in Sydney - she'd gone there to take the kids to the zoo) and wanted to come home but couldn't drive.  So the sweetie flew up to Sydney to rescue her.  He even got to go in one of Virgin Australia's itty bitty little planes.  Slightly jealous heh.

In the meantime I tidied up the laundry which has been a disaster lately.

Dinner was pea and ham soup that the sweetie had put in the slow cooker before he left.  It was pretty good.

This afternoon had carpet cleaners come by to clean this enormous space

Lounge room
They said this was an easy job, as they usually have to move furniture around.  So they did the lounge/dining/study/hall/bedroom in half an hour!

Then ploughed through my Monday night housework.

Paid some bills.

Backed up my computer.

And did my tax.

Saturday I got up at a reasonable hour and went and picked up supplies for the evening.  Brought home some Maccas breakfast.

Then spent pretty much the whole day cleaning the house.  Oops.  Finished up like a quarter of an hour before people started turning up.

So yeah, four Davids, a Neil and a Simon came.  We started off by playing some rounds of Buzz until everyone arrived.  Then DC arrived with pizzas, and we watched The Big Lebowski, followed by Blazing Saddles.  I struggled to keep awake through Blazing Saddles ;)   My favourite part was when they zoomed out of the fight scene to show the Warner Bros backlot.  Very cool :)

Then most people went home, but Doc and Windy stayed for a bit of Singstar (and I set a couple of high scores for Poison and Heaven is a Place on Earth :) ).  Slightly late night.  Oops.

Spent the better part of the afternoon cleaning the house.  Not that you'd ever be able to tell from looking at it :/

Went to Potty's for Thai takeaway dinner, and watched Source Code afterwards.  Nice evening :)
