Crazy Weeks

| | Comments (0)

Such a busy week this week. Absolutely crazy.

Took an early mark tonight and came home and played with Lego for a while before Jenn came over for dinner (vegeterian gyoza).  Jenn brought over a few of her Tequilas she got from Mexico last year for a taste testing which was pretty cool.  After dinner we played a game of Carcassonne (I won, oops).  Such a pleasant evening.

Lego Therapy

Had a thoroughly awful day today.  Thought was going to be picked up to go to Chrissie's appointment, but I was actually meant to pick her up.  Which meant we were late and when we were still on our way they were like, well the doctor is running late anyway, don't bother coming.  So $90 better off (so long as they don't try to charge her) but I was super stressed due to failing because of poor communication and assumtions.  We went and got lunch anyway but I was in a pretty bad mood.

And then got back in time for a meeting, but the dude was like "it's next to the kitchen" except there's *two* kitchens on his floor.  Fricken sigh.  Was in tears because of the stress of everything at one point.  And people.  Hate people.  Why can't I just sit quietly in a room and do my work and NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE????

My boss said I needed Lego therapy, so got a bit of that tonight.  And have sore fingers to show for it.

I Tired

Katie was back in town this weekend, so went down to Kit's for a while after dinner.  Played Cards Against Humanity for quite a while but I didn't do very well.  Slightly late night, but still woke up at 6:30 this morning didn't I?

Headed out to the club first thing for a committee meeting.  We were going to have lunch then come home, but we got talked into hanging around til 5pm to meet a new person.  So didn't get home til 7pm.  So I'm very tired.

So Ben and Sarah invited themselves over for a swim tonight.  They normally don't stay very long so that was ok.  Except Kit and Pete came over as well and suddenly it was 8pm.  Whoops.  Fortunately we had leftovers to eat for dinner, but after watching a new episode of Discovery KEEP THE DAMNED CAMERA STILL!!!!  and hanging out my washing it's basically bed time.  Sigh.

Speaking of Zombies..

| | Comments (0)

Went to bed at 10pm.  Woke up at 3am.  Had about an hour or so worth of sleep after that.  Hurrah.  Zombie day today.

Went food shopping this morning then the sweetie spent all afternoon mashing 9kg of potatoes (I peeled most of them!).  Then at the very last minute (a couple of hours notice) Stu's dad came over for dinner.  I went across the road for some salady bits and did some pasta which was actually quite nice (used most of the basil plant I've been growing all summer!).

Inflicted Stu's dad with our last holiday slide show, then headed down to Kit's for a drink.

In other news, two hundred and thirty years ago today some ancestors of mine got off a boat a few hundred kilometres from here, and for that we get a holiday..

And now it's way past my bed time..

Iori

Tonight we went with EffanC to Iori for dinner.  We got the Ninja banquet and it was *huge*.  We were all pretty full by the end of it.

Iori banquet

Went to the Labor Club and had a drink afterwards then came home.

Oh and saw this at KingOs beforehand - a Furphy!  Ok so just the front of one, but pretty cool.

Furphy

In the morning David and I finished the jigsaw we started last night.

Then we headed out to Jem Aquatics to see about replacing the LED light.  Turns out they'd had a bad batch, and we didn't have any issues replacing it.  Hopefully the light we got in October was from a different batch and will be ok.  Hopefully.

Then Udo and Leanne came over and we were in the pool all afternoon and part of the evening (with a break for some dinner that Leanne and Udo very nicely brought).

And there goes another day.

Bit of hurty overnight but not too bad.

Finished tidying up receipts in the morning and finished filing photos from last year into appropriate directories.

Headed out for lunch (gotta keep my 40 week check-in streak going haha) and then went shopping for some new shorts (my "good" shorts from Colorado when they closed down - reduced from $70 to $20 - and I'm glad I didn't pay more than $20 cause they fell apart very quickly - aren't good anymore, and the daggy ones aren't the best for wearing around).  Amazingly the first ones I tried on fitted reasonably well.  For once a clothes shopping experience that didn't end in tears!

Just bits and pieces in the afternoon frittering my break away.

Sarah came by late in the afternoon, followed by David, followed by Ben.  Sat in the pool til relatively late past dinner time.  We had food for ourselves but not for David so ended up getting pizza and watching Fawlty Towers.  Whoops.

But David did swap some taps around to fix the tap that broke in the bathroom a couple of days ago (the plastic disintegrated so couldn't turn the tap on anymore).  Have I ever mentioned my little brother is awesome? :)

The End of the Year

Saturday 23.12.17

Dropped into Chrissie's to pick up keys and instructions for animal feeding, then did our food shopping for the week.

Sunday 24.12.17 - Christmas Eve

Spent pretty much the entire afternoon cooking.  I cooked up a Christmas caramel slice (flavoured with a little ginger and spice), a cherry/raspberry white chocolate cheesecake that looked like crap, whoops, and then a 2.8kg piece of roast pork, as well as potato bake and roast veggies.  In the evening we had our Christmas Eve feast and watched new episodes of Fuller House, and started watching season four of Rake.

Monday 25.12.17 - Christmas Day

Had a relaxing and quiet morning because I didn't need to do any cooking.  I did clean up the kitchen, the bathroom, and the vomit some animal had left on our front patio - gross!!!  The sweetie and I went out and did a little pokegressing, then dropped into Chrissie's to feed the animals.  Came home and did a final bit of house tidying (and found out both families were coming for dessert, not just one).  After lunch (I had leftover pork and potato - yum!) Annie and the kids came over for dessert, and a little while later Scott and the family came over as well.  There was so. much. dessert.  And I'm not even a big dessert person.  My teeth hurt just looking at all the sugar!

Christmas desserts

By the time everyone left the sweetie and I were completely exhausted from *people*.  I cooked up the section of crackling that had been under the roast and so not crackled, and had that for dinner.  In the evening just Fuller House and Rake.

Tuesday 26.12.17 - Boxing Day

Did a bit of decluttering in the spare room - pulled out a pile of clothes to give/throw away, and started separating some of the stuff in the entrance way of what to Green Shed/Freecycle/eBay.  Cleaned the kitchen and family room window sills and trimmed the thyme which had been going a little crazy and tidied up all the herbs.  Did a bit of jigsawing, and worked on my new Nanoblocks building.  In the evening we went to Kit's as she and Pete were having a barbeque and a bunch of their friends came.  Stayed up probably a little too late, but it was a nice night.

Kit boxing day party

Wednesday 27.12.17

Had a bit of a slow start.  Did a water change in the angel tank.  We'd been planning to meet up with Potty etc to see a movie, but in between deciding which movie/session to see and actually booking it, they sold out.  We met up with them at the mall anyway for lunch (I also needed a few things at the shops so did that first).  Then everyone came back to our place for dessert take 2 (and the kids had a swim as well).  So I had to put away all the stuff that I'd spread out on the lounge room floor back into the spare room, where it's now out of sight out of mind :(  We put on the animated live action The Jungle Book to watch in the afternoon.  I say animated because just about the only thing that was real in the entire movie was the kid.  Still, it wasn't too bad.  I did the edge for the World's Most Difficult Jigsaw while watching.  By the time everyone left the sweetie and I were completely exhausted from *people*.  That and an entire day gone with pretty much nothing to show for it.

Thursday 28.12.17

Alternated between fifteen minutes at a time doing some deep cleaning in the bathroom, and doing the big jigsaw.  In the evening (it was Thursday after all), the sweetie ordered an epic pizza from Dominos.  It was nice enough, but it was sorely lacking in pepperoni, which was pretty disappointing.

Epic pizza

We watched The Space Between Us, which was nice enough, but some of the problems with it annoyed me (spoilers!!) - like being able to have online chats in real time - don't you know there's a three to twenty-four minute delay each way on comms (depending on position in orbits)??  Or what are they going to feed the kid?  I'm sure they didn't send any baby formula on the mission!  And I did call out the father very early on.

Friday 29.12.17

Just a few bits and pieces in the morning, including testing the dead LED fish tank light in the fitting downstairs.  I bought the LED light in April, but it died a week or so ago.  I'm pretty pissed off about that because the light was twice the price of a regular fluoro light, but it only lasted half as long.  I'm also pretty pissed that we don't have a receipt, because the sweetie doesn't tend to keep receipts.  Going to have to make a point of always getting him to give me receipts when we go shopping.  I know exactly when we bought it, and it should be in the sweetie's credit card statements, so going to try our luck getting a refund or replacement.  Moral of the story:  AquaOne is evil, and their products are crappy (always have been).  We bought another LED light in October that's still working, but we don't have a receipt for it either, so can guarantee it's going to die shortly too :(

Went into Belco to get our pool water tested.  Good news is our sunscreen levels are now down to the correct levels after last summer's dramas.  Bad news is there's no buffering (total alkalinity), which means it's all a bit unstable.  And even though our test kits say there's plenty of chlorine, the pool shop testing says there's none.  *sigh*

Went into the city for doctor stuff and lunch.  We went to Hero Sushi which is usually crowded and pretty good, but it was half empty and all the hot food was cold which wasn't much fun. Mostly just sorted pairs of pieces in the little jigsaw in the afternoon.  Had a swim then added a bunch of pool chemicals.

Saturday 30.12.17

Finished The World's Most Difficult jigsaw (it's not) fairly quickly in the morning, then finished the Nanoblocks Empire State Building.

Nanoblocks Empire State Building

Worked on the big jigsaw for a while in the afternoon so could finish it by the end of the year.  Serena came over after seeing Kit, and had a quick swim.  We watched Coyote Ugly in the evening which I first saw on the plane to the USA in 2000.  I didn't realise I'd seen it again back in 2003.

Sunday 31.12.17 - New Years Eve

Was awake from dentist time to about 5:30am, then only managed about another two hours sleep after that.  So pretty tired and a very slow morning.  Watched Cinderella while finishing off that section of the jigsaw.  It's a pretty lame movie actually.  I don't think I've seen it since I was a kid.  There's a whole heap of just slapstick, and the "love" story is pathetic.  How do you fall in love with someone without them even saying a word??  Sure you can get a bit of a crush, but that's not really enough to live "happily ever after".

Went out for lunch at the markets and to do our food shopping.  We didn't do much shopping as none of the butchers were open, I was super tired so couldn't even think about vegetables (and Tom's was very depleted on stock anyway).  We did pick up a huge pile of fish for $19/kg though, gave some to Kit, froze some, and will have it as a couple of meals in the next few days.

This afternoon has just been catching up on this blog, and I've still got to finish my year in review post.  I started off well this year, taking notes for most of the year at the beginning of December.  But then everything just went crazy before Christmas and I kept putting it off.  It's probably half done so need to do that if there's nothing else I do before tonight.  We have no plans yet for New Years.  I'll be lucky to stay awake!

Another Tuesday

Where were we?

Tuesday we went over to wish Noah a happy birthday.  Really don't see enough of those guys.

Noah's 16th birthday cake

Thursday night we got invited over to EffanC's for dinner.  This time Kate P was there which was quite nice.

Friday was the second big work party which was all very pleasant, although I wasn't game enough to ask for leftovers this time haha.  In the evening David came up and we went out to Ikea so he could get some bookshelves.  Hint: going to Ikea on a Friday night is *much* more civilised than going on the weekend!  Went to Shane and Jessica's new place in Queanbeyan afterwards and had pizza for dinner.

Saturday Serena and Ben and Sarah came over for a Christmas pool party.  Which was good but all morning was doing food prep and all afternoon was in the pool and all evening was pool and watching Life of Brian.  So it was a nice day but did take up half the weekend.

Sunday morning David went home fairly early to get home in time for a thing in Wagga Wagga.  We had a bit of a lazy morning, went out for lunch and to do some food shopping.  Then Chris, Mike and Zac came over for a while.  And suddenly it was dinner time and my entire weekend was gone.

Last two days have been winding down somewhat at work which is kinda nice, except for when you find yourself with nothing much interesting to do and resort to clearing out your inbox...

So another week drifts by.  Had awful insomnia last Monday night - couldn't get to sleep forever then woke up really early.  Dunno if I was too hot or too cold or what.  Rest of the week was pretty uneventful.

Thursday night I made a mint-leaf rocky road which was pretty awesome.

Mint rocky road

Friday night we had Scott and EffanC over for lots of cheese and finger food, and gave Scott a bit of a whiskey tasting since he'll be missing out in January.

Nibbles

Saturday morning was fairly productive Getting Things Done.  Mostly just jigsaw in the afternoon.  Later in the afternoon Zac came over to stay.  We watched both Die Hards.  As you do.

Sunday wasn't super productive.  After dinner (the sweetie needed pizza) we found the internet pretty much unusable thanks to a cut in the Perth to Singapore fibre which meant it pretty late before we were going to put on a movie.  So decided not to.  I went down to do the jigsaw then the little brother called me to tell me to watch the Lego Brickumentary on SBS.  So ended up staying up just as late anyway.  Whoops.

Yesterday was the first of the work Christmas parties, which was actually pretty chillaxed and we had a pretty good time.  I even came home with a bunch of leftovers! W00t!  Just watched some The Good Place in the evening.  It's all a bit silly but a bit of fun.

Ok not literally.  But I did need to put a jumper on today.  And I feel like I may need an extra doona tonight.  Yipe.

Where were we?

Wednesday James was in town for work so we caught up at Bella Vista for dinner.

Friday night we watched a bit of tv, then I put up our Christmas tree.

Saturday was pretty much all just house stuff and food shopping.  Didn't have time to do any of my jigsaw but did fully dismantle the Life jigsaw back into baggies (we only dismantled it enough to get into bags on assembly day).

Life jigsaw in baggies

In the evening Anita came over and she talked all night.  Did a super yummy pork belly for dinner and got plenty of leftovers.  (I did burn the top slightly when grilling it at the end).

Pork belly

Oh did I mention I had insomnia *again* on Friday night?  This time I woke up at 3:30am and never got back to sleep.  After getting up a couple of times to eat something because I was hungry, I finally gave up around 6am.  So I had a relatively early night Saturday night because I was exhausted.

Sunday was a bit of house stuff and a fair bit of jigsaw.  I also went cherry picking.  This is the biggest crop of cherries I've ever gotten off our tree.  They don't taste super great, and the dark purple juice will stain your whole mouth purple, but hey, phytochemicals!

Cherry picking

In the evening we went over to EffanC's for cheese for dinner (yumm ;) ) and to watch The Room.  Yes, that one.  Ok I'd never heard of it, but everyone said it was supposed to be like one of the worst films ever made.  They certainly weren't wrong.  It was terrible.  It was so terrible it was *hilarious*.  Fun times :)

Saturday morning I had to go into work for upgrades.  It all went well but took *forever* waiting for things.  So I didn't get home til like 1:30pm or something.  Serena was there, having just gotten back from ObstaSplash with Kit.  Took her home after a while, then went to Casey Supabarn to do our food shopping.  We accidentally bought a $70 bottle of sparkling shiraz, because either someone had mislabelled it, or someone had moved it, but we thought we would be paying $20 for it.  I was *pissed* when I saw the receipt when we got home.  And then I also noticed we'd been charged eight times for six tins of tuna.  The dude had reversed one of them, but it still meant we paid for seven tins of tuna when we only got six.  Won't be shopping there again any time soon.

So got home, and made a caramel slice.  And then it was 6pm.  Time to head over to EffanC's with aforementioned super expensive sparkling shiraz and caramel slice.  R&F were there too so it was quite a pleasant evening.

But half my weekend was gone and I hadn't had any "home" time.

So Sunday we didn't leave the house.  I did a bit of housework and computer stuff and jigsaw.  Didn't get quite as much done as I would have liked, but better than nothing.  On Sunday afternoon I watched the original Beauty and the Beast, while finishing up part I of the Memorable Moments jigsaw.  In the evening I watched another unopened dvd - Dirty Dancing - which I bought from Big W for $5 - in January 2007!  Whoops.  I also watched First Flight: Secrets of the Dreamliner, about Qantas' purchase of their first 787 Dreamliner.  Very cool :)

Always Monday

So last Tuesday was a big Kingsley's lunch followed by me taking photos of people watching horses run around in a circle followed by a bunch of us heading back to Lachie's for darts, jigsaw (ok that was just me) and imitation Jenga (I didn't lose!)

Friday night we caught up with Kit and Pete for a while which was nice.

Saturday was pretty quiet.  Just housework and getting things done in the morning, and mostly jigsaw in the afternoon.  For dinner we went to the Dumpling Inn (which has *finally* reopened after being closed for like six months for "renovations" but we could barely notice any difference) with Chris and Mike and Zac.  We got there pretty early which meant we didn't have to wait all night for food which was good (and the place didn't fill up either, people must not realise it's reopened).

Sunday was also quiet, with housework type stuff interspersed with jigsaw.  In the evening we watched Beauty and the Beast - the live action one.  I quite enjoyed it, but not too convinced by Emma Watson as Belle, it felt like I was just watching Hermione.

And then back to it.  I've got my Sadie hat firmly on at the moment which generally makes me pretty happy.  Just puttering through work at my own pace and cleaning up mess.

Friday night we went over to Serena's for a bbq.  Ben and Sarah and Anita came over as well so that was a nice evening.

Serena's cats

Saturday was alterating between jigsaw and housework and Getting Things Done.  Later in the afternoon we went over to EffanC's with Scott and that was all very nice.  Stu finally decided we should open the 1972 Grange Hermitage that he'd had forever, inherited off his BIL.  We could tell by looking at it that the cork had died a long time ago and wouldn't be drinkable.  We were right.  Sad times.  F cooked a beef and vegetable roll for dinner which was all very nice, and then we watched Natural Born Killers.  And I'm like W.T.F. the entire way through it.  hrmmm!

Corked Grange Hermitage

Sunday was more jigsaw, fitting other things in as well.  Did some food shopping at Crace in the afternoon.  It's actually quite pleasant to be able to park within 20m of the front entrance, and not have to deal with that nonsense that is coin-release trolleys.  And there's no crowds.  And they have plenty of interesting stuff too, so we may go there more often.  In the evening we watched Black Hat.  It was an enjoyable enough movie (especially for all the Hong Kong been-theres) but it was too high on the "yeah right" scale to make it any kind of believable.

Tonight I was having my usual Monday night stress of too much to do and not enough time to do it.  Seriously, by the time I do all the things I *have* to do, I have about an hour to an hour and a half per evening to do the things I *want* to do.  I spend my week *hanging* for the weekends when I can actually get more than an hour to do anything fun.

Sigh.

Where were we?

| | Comments (0)

Friday was a pub lunch, nominally for Lachie's farewell from the team, but really any excuse for a pub lunch.

In the evening was the last swim night of the year which was pleasant enough but did take up all Friday evening.

Saturday we were invited to Serena's birthday bbq, so I was hoping to leave shortly before lunch time.  Except everything blew up and we ended up leaving at about 9:30 to run errands before leaving for the bbq a bit after 10:30.  Sigh.  And then Serena invited herself over after, and we had a swim and got pizza for dinner and watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  It was a nice day don't get me wrong, and Serena had a lovely day, but it took up the Entire. Damned. Day.  Half my weekend gone just like that.   I was stressed about it before and depressed about it after.  Sigh.

Sunday at least I had a pretty productive day, ploughing through a bunch of things on the todo list, alternating that with time on the jigsaw.

Today I got a few things done as well which was super handy, including discovering that Australia Post now has self service counters which get me out of there super quickly instead of waiting forever in the queue.  Pretty cool.

Friday morning got to go with Chrissie to her diagnostic ultrasound.  Quite long - about forty minutes.  Very very cool :)

In the evening we were both just getting ourselves organised for the weekend.

Saturday I did a day trip to Sydney to see the flat which is nearly finished being renovated.

On the way up to Sydney I passed this accident, which apparently had happened some six hours earlier.  Sadly someone in a car in the oncoming traffic died.  I'd like to know what happened - did the truck driver have a heart attack or just fall asleep?  Got some lunch and had it at Luc and Lizzi's, then came home, diverting via Mittagong and Berrima, although I probably could have followed the diversion that had going off at Medway Road and probably wouldn't have been too held up.

Well actually I went via the club in both directions to drop off and pick up Stu.  Listened to six hours of "Criminal" podcast.  We watched Monsters University in the evening.

Club bouncy bouncies

Sunday was just housework in the morning, then back out to the club again as we needed to show some newcomers around.  Had a swim before coming home.  Chicken dinner and Moulin Rouge! in the evening.

Today I found out before I left for work that I had a small package coming, so I worked from home so I could take delivery.  Just a small package - only contains 40320 pieces..

40320 piece Disney Moments jigsaw box

Hence I'm sad we don't get one...

Friday night we were going to go to Chrissie's for dinner cause Aunty Di and Uncle Graham were down.  But Chris was unwell, and AD and UG had gone home, so that got cancelled.

Instead a bunch of us went out to the Capital Brewery at Fyshwick for Simon's 40th, which was a great venue, pretty casual (altho no cash at the bar - only cards) and it was very pleasant evening.  I didn't end up buying any food, as there kept being fries, and when I saw the size of the Brod-meals I decided not to bloat myself by eating too much!  Thanks to the sweetie and Jim for lifts there/back.

Saturday was pretty much just houseworky type stuff, and a bit of food shopping.  In the afternoon Serena invited us over for an impromptu barbeque which was very nice, with Kit and Pete and Ben and Sarah and Anita also coming.

Saturday we had Nat and Andrew over for our second hanami lunch.  It was so warm we could sit outside, which was the first time since 2009 that we'd gone outside, on account of it usually being too cold.  In fact we didn't stay out for very long because it was too hot!!  Came inside and had on various holiday slideshows just because.

Friday night the sweetie went off to a swim night, but I stayed at home and settled in and watched The Right Stuff.

Saturday morning we headed into town and had brunch at Gus's Place.  This was the first time I'd been since they reoopened.  It was pretty busy, and in fact the wait staff were clearing our tables practically before we'd finished eating.  I had eggs benedict, which was quite nice, altho the fibre or hair I found at the bottom was a bit of a put-off.

Then we picked up Stu's trousers which had been altered.  Then off to Bunnings to get another grout scraping blade.  Then to the markets for food shopping.  Then to Jem Aquatics so Stu could get some fish to cycle his new little tank.

By which time it's already early afternoon.  Didn't get too much useful done in the afternoon.

In the evening we went to EffanC's for dinner of lasagna which was very nice.  We watched Team America: World Police.  What.  The.  !!   Then we half watched The Princess Bride while chatting.  Unfortunately that meant for a *very* late night :(

This morning was just cleaning and doing food prep for lunch - our first hanami lunch of the year.  Chris and Mike and Zac came over for teriyaki chicken wings, tuna sushi that I made, and okonomiyaki.  It seemed to be well enjoyed.

In the afternoon I was so tired I couldn't sit still because my legs were so restless, so I actually had an afternoon siesta, which I almost never do.  It did help, but it left me feeling a little unsettled this evening.  I cooked some salmon for dinner and we watched Voyager (start of season six) and Survivor.

And there goes another weekend :/
