Thursday night we saw an episode of Voyager that had David Graf in it, so on Friday we watched Police Academy.  As you do :)

Saturday morning I headed into work to do an upgrade, and accidentally upgraded to the latest version instead of the second latest version we were meant to put on.  Whoops.

At lunch the little brother came over, having just purchased a brand new second hand switch.  I brought home cables and we plugged in and had a look and made sure the switch was working, which it looked like it was.  Then we fussed around with our network to see if we could figure out why the NAS won't get a link light on our Cisco switch.  It wouldn't even get link on David's HP switch.  Super epic weird.  Guess will just have to keep using it on our 100Mbps Netgear switch.  After that he did awesome stuff like install a couple of smoke detectors that I'd bought last year but hadn't installed, and we totally reprogrammed our Harmony remote.  They finally have drivers for our TV now which is awesome, and also for the new DVD player we got which has a super dodgy remote that presses buttons multiple times which makes it unusable.  But even though everything works now, the amp still makes the Harmony remote have issues.  Still, we can live with that given that we can drive all our devices now.  Oh and he also pulled apart the fan that's been rattling.  Turns out the mounting for the gear box which turns the fan from side to side had disintegrated.  So he pulled it all out.

Have I ever mentioned how awesome my brother is? :)

In the evening I cooked sausages and very garlicky pasta (sorry!) and leftover veggie bake, and we watched our cruise slideshow and various other cruising slideshows and chatted mostly about cruising.  Quite a nice evening.

Today David went home and I did some house cleaning and cruise blogging and we went food shopping and I cooked a lamb roast with lots of epic veggies and all in all had quite a nice weekend.

Sunday night roasts are my super power

It's been an absolutely glorious weekend.  Except I've spent most of it inside sorting holiday photos :/

We did go for a walk together on Saturday.  And go to Bunnings.  And ran into Kit there.  On Saturday night Annie and the family came over for pizza for dinner and Stu showed them some holiday photos from his phone on the tv.

Sunday Stu gardened for a couple of hours while I did holiday photos.  I cooked pork medallion roast for dinner, and it was possibly one of the best pork roasts I've ever done.  Every bit of the crackling was perfect, and the meat was lovely too.  Also cooked a whole heap of veggies.  In the evening we had to watch something Russian-inspired, so we watched The Hunt for Red October.

Epic awesome pork

Today I woke up at 4am with a sore spine, took ages to get back to sleep and ended up sleeping in fairly late.  Stu gardened while I did holiday photos.  Felt like I was wasting the weekend away indoors.  Around lunch time we went to Officeworks to pickup a HDMI cable, had Hungry Cracks for lunch and instantly regretted it, then had a wander around John Knight Park.  And ran into Kit there.  Seriously it's like we're stalking each other heh.  At least I got a bit of vitamin D.

When we got home Stu had a voicemail that Telstra had fixed our line.  The stats on the router aren't much improved, but download speeds and latency sure are a lot better.  We'll see how it goes..

Well not much really.

Wednesday night we ran the trivia night which was pretty well attended and enjoyed.  Only two questions that noone got right, but twenty-three that *everyone* got right - whoops!

Thursday had a training day which I always find a bit draining, but learnt some things, even if I won't get much exposure to them in real life.

Friday night we had dinner at Hero Sushi and did some clothes shopping.  The girl at City Chic was quite nice and unthreatening which made the whole process of clothes shopping not *completely* stressful.  And only spent nearly $300 on four items.  Hrmmmmmmm!!  (Vinnies was *much* better value!!)

The weekend was pretty much just *getting things done*.  Had dinner at Annie's last night, but really the weekend was just getting things done that hadn't been gotten done on account of trivia nights and stuff...

Tonight we watched some Voyager, and Particle Fever, which was pretty interesting.

And I made a zucchini bake using one of Serena's epic zucchinis

Mother type weekend

While mum was here over Christmas, we didn't spend a whole lot of time with her, on account of that's my only week off at home like ever, and so my only chance to really get things done around the house.  I still miss uni holidays.  Sigh.

Anyways, I said at the time she should come again for a weekend in say February, so she did.  She came down Friday night and we all had a swim to cool off (Friday was *stoopidly* hot).  Cooked sausages for dinner and we watched Shrek Forever After.

Saturday morning I woke up at 4am and never got back to sleep - spine hurty and brain that wouldn't shut up.  Got ready and we all headed out to the club.  Were we sat in the pool and hid from the sun.  And then had lunch.  Then sat in the pool.  Then went home.  And sat in the pool.  Saturday was *stoopidly* hot as well.  I cooked honey mustard chicken for dinner and then mum and I did some photo labelling.  Well, all her photos are labelled, but there's plenty of photos where there's people's names, but I don't actually know the people or how they fit everything in.  I really need to do family trees for all that side of the family.  Mum's father's side is well documented, on account of us being First Fleeters, but mum's mother's side, and all of dad's side is a bit lacking in who's who.  Not that anyone will care after I die.  Heck I barely even care ;)

Sunday was a bit cooler.  Mum went to church in the morning so I finished scanning the last album I wanted to return.  Then we did more labelling.  Then off to Scott's with EffanC for drinks and nibbles and music and pizza.  Quite a pleasant afternoon.  Mum wanted to watch MKR when we got home so I stayed til the end of that, then had an early night.

And then mum went home this morning.

Social Sundays

Ok so last Sunday wasn't all that social.  Dave and Kat went home and we just had a quiet day for the rest of the day.

For mum

We did do some food shopping, and I used up one of the pizza bases I'd inherited off Kerry a year ago to make a "six cheese, prosciutto and pepperoni" pizza.  It was pretty good.

In fact the next Monday night after an epic crappy day, I used the other two bases and repeated the process for dinner on Monday night.

Yesterday Rob came over for a while in the morning to talk club stuff, then we went over to EffanC's for lunch.  After lunch we played Cards Against Humanity for a while.  Stu won, I came third.

Didn't really get anything much done yesterday arvo or evening.  Oops.

Social Saturdays

Last Saturday morning hung out alternately between Dave and Kat and also Kit/Serena/Ben.  In the afternoon Dave and Kat went out for a bit and Kit/Serena/Ben came over for a swim.  Even though I stuck to the shady part of the pool I somehow managed to get quite sunburnt :(:(  I cooked up some sausages for dinner and David and I did a jigsaw in the evening.

Also, David pruned the pistachio tree, isn't he awesome? :)

Yesterday day was a nice quiet day getting things done around the house.  In the evening we met up with Luc and Cynthia and the boys for dinner at the Courtyard Restaurant at Mercure.  The scallops I had were lovely, but the pork was a little tough.  Was great to catch up with those guys again, last time was September 2013 (which for some reason I never blogged!)

Social Fridays

Last Friday night, the little brother and Kat came up.  David brought his big ladder and supplies and moved the pool flood light from its annoying position at a low height that just got in your eyes whenever it was on to a position under the eaves facing down on the pool.  He got it all installed on the Friday evening before it got dark so we could try it out.  It worked really well - much better than the old position.  Kit actually had a swim in the pool during the proceedings (rare for her!) and there was pizza involved.  Have I ever mentioned that my little brother is awesome? :)

Last night we met up with Chrissie and "the fella" for dinner at Dumpling Inn.  I love Dumpling Inn but their service as always been a bit lacklustre.  But last night it was just plain awful.  Took a full fifteen minutes before I could get someone's attention to get a drinks order (by wildly waving *both* arms) and then it was another half an hour before we even got all our drinks.  Food service was relatively slow too and we ended up being the last people in the restaurant at 21:20 (by which time the table next to us *still* hadn't been cleared from when other people left an hour before us).  They really need to hire a professional waiter or two to make things a bit more efficient.  Chrissie's dude seems nice enough and we had another glass of wine back at her place before calling it an evening.

Had lunch with Scott and Kerry and most of the kids today after they saw Moana.  Probably the last time we'll see them in months :(

I spent most of tonight sorting out files on my computer so the backup would fit onto the smaller drive I have (which doesn't do big stuff such as photo masters).  I haven't done any DVD backups of my photo masters in several years.  I really should keep going with that in case of the zombie apocalypse.  Well really the EMP apocalypse.  Fortunately the chances of that happening are pretty remote, but it's a terrifying thought.  And if it *did* happen, probably a backup of my photos would be the least of my worries.  Staying alive for more than a couple of weeks would be our biggest concern.

What a cheery blog entry heh.

Day 1

| | Comments (0)

New Year's Eve night we had Ben and EffanC over.  Hung out in the pool for a few hours, ate lots of cheese, then came up and watched Ghost in the Shell (I had no idea what was going on) and then most of the second season of the Katering Show, then watched the Sydney fireworks.  We paced ourselves nicely and had a lovely evening.

Today was just trying to catch up on life (I'm nearly done with the year in review post) then the hoardes descended - all of Stu's family came over and there was much loudness and chaos.  Annie brought a banquet of Turkish food, although I ended up eating very little of it.

After everyone left we had Ben over for a relaxing swim to destress.

Shutdown

Monday would have begun our week off.  Except it wasn't really a week off for us.  Well not that we could fully relax anyway.  But, I did get stuck into the house work I wanted to do.  Monday I cleaned out the spare room cupboard and organised everything in there.  Had sausages for dinner.

Tuesday I cleaned out most of our bedroom cupboard, although we still didn't find Stu's fitbit.  Kit cooked us some ribs on the bbq for lunch which was nice.  In the afternoon I cleaned out the ensuite cupboard.  Chris and Zac came up for a swim, then Chris Bell came over as well.  With Dumpling Inn apparently closed for the break, we did a big pickup from Chong Co instead.

Wednesday I cleaned out one of the kitchen cupboards which had been annoying me for a while.  That one is a lot more organised now.  Cooked up some pasta for dinner, and we watched Wag the Dog, which seemed a bit far fetched for me.

Thursday morning I didn't really get anything useful done.  Went out during the day to Bunnings then to the chemist and had lunch, and finally our food shopping.  Did a bit of sorting of stuff in the afternoon.  Mum took us to the Labor Club for dinner with Chris and Zac.  Had a swim in the pool afterwards.

Overnight I woke up at around dentist time and couldn't get back to sleep til around 5am because I was just too hot.  The cooler was working really well before Christmas, but this entire week has been stoopidly humid which means the cooler is pretty much useless.  No fair.

So Friday was a slow start.  Mum went home, then got stuck into sorting the year's receipts and other such things.  In the evening Ben and Serena came over for a swim, and we got pizza for dinner then chatted for a while.

And so now we're up to the last day of the year.  I still have a few more bits and pieces I need to blog today.  There's *heaps* of stuff on my todo list that I wanted to get done this week but couldn't because it was too hard to concentrate.  But at least I have another couple of days left which I might be able to get some of it done.  The ftp backup of my blog is *still* going :/  I did manage to do an sql dump of it all though which was good.  123mb, although a huge chunk of that is the search terms that people use on the sidebar.  Go figure.  Might see if I can delete some of that.

Edit:  deleted nearly nine years of activity history, and the sql dump was cut down to 25mb :)

Christmas 2016

Saturday we spent the entire day cleaning the house, and then didn't even get anywhere near through the todo list.  In the evening we got pizza and Kit came up and I inflicted Love Actually on everyone, and then we had on the end of the carols and made fun of them the whole way through heh.

For the third night in a row I had insomnia for several hours.  Hurrah.

So Christmas Day was a very slow start.  Then I spent the entire morning cooking and doing food preparation.  The sweetie spent the entire morning cleaning the yards and house.  Such a good sweetie.

Chris and Zac came up and then mum arrived and we had roast pork for lunch (the crackling barely made it to the table), with home-made apple sauce, also epic potato bake, Jamie Oliver's glazed carrots, mushrooms fried in butter, and baked vegetables.

I ate too much.

And then felt bloated all afternoon.  So I wasn't much fun for the rest of the day.  Whoops.

Late in the afternoon Annie and the family came over and we had dessert and did the whole present thing which was fun.

And people braved the festy green pool and seemed to have a lot of fun.

In other news, Uncle Colin called me out of the blue this afternoon - he was in the country and could he pop over after dinner to say hi..  so he did!  Was nice to see him again.  Hopefully we'll see him again early in the new year before he wanders off back to Europe (it's a tough life but someone has to do it!)

Cough

| | Comments (0)

Wednesday night I started coughing.  Spent the next few days feeling like crap.  And the next few days coughing non-stop.  Fun times.  Not.

Saturday we fed about seventy people at the club.  The sweetie had to do most of the food preparation though, because I didn't want to spread germs.

Dave and Kat came up for the weekend too which was nice, other than feeling like crap of course.

My back hurts, I think from all the coughing :(

Busy weekend

| | Comments (0)

So this weekend consisted of:

* photographing Cotter and Stromlo
* driving to Sydney and a dinner with mum for our birthdays (had pork ribs - yum!)
* awake at stoopid o'clock
* finally getting to see the Sea Cliff Bridge up close
* driving home
* house tidying, bed changing, sheet washing, Survivor watching, tuna bake cooking.

Tradies Ribs

I'm still trying to get through old food in the house.  I dug out four tins of tuna that had gotten mouldy from being out at the club (the labels, not the tuna) and two small tins of creamed corn that had been in the pantry forever.  Mixed them with a small thing of cream from across the road, a sachet of cream of mushroom soup, and a clove of pickled black garlic, then over half a pack of pasta, topped with cheese then baked for forty minutes.  For something so random it was quite delicious, and there's a bunch less things in the pantry now.

Friday night after a completely blah week Chrissie suggested drinks and takeaway.  We said so long as no drama then ok.  So we did that and it was quite nice.

Saturday was mostly housework and trying to sort out paperwork.  Cause that's all I seem to do on weekends.

Saturday night was going to be a p0ker night but Serena was very sick and we had to cancel, so we decided to go to the movies.  Went and saw Star Trek Beyond.

Sunday I mostly spent doing puzzles - nonograms and jigsaws.  Went to lunch at Casey Jones with Annie and the family (food was pretty good - I had pork belly (no crackling tho) - but the service was pretty slow - they've only just opened so still finding their feet), then went back to their place for dessert and mostly did a jigsaw they'd had out for ages not getting done.

Then the little brother and Kat arrived.  Had KFC for dinner (somewhat of a tradition).  We finished the 1500 piece jigsaw I had out, then smashed out a 1000 piece jigsaw in the evening.

Tonight David and Kat came back cause their day at the museum finished a lot later than they'd hoped.  So we did a 500 piece jigsaw.  As you do.

Exhaustion

Sunday I got sick.  Felt like crap.

Monday morning I still felt like crap and had a sore throat and a bit of a cough.  So stayed at home and rested (in front of movies - Star Trek Into Darkness and The Martian) and attempted to doze (failed).  Of course since I'd rested all day I didn't actually feel tired on Monday night did I?? Took hours to get to sleep :(

Tuesday felt somewhat better (although super tired) so went to work.  Had pizza with Potty and Jake in the evening and watched Independence Day.  At 9:15pm, possibly as a result of power surges from the storm (various parts of Canberra lost power) our main power circuit tripped.  Flicked it back on.  Then at midnight it tripped again.  Disconnected the printer even though I knew it wouldn't be that.  At 2am it tripped again!  Gah!  Having been expecting it to keep tripping, I really didn't sleep at all.  At the 2am wakeup I disconnected the big fish tank.  As I was pulling the power, it tripped again!  So fairly likely it was that tank doing it.  Managed to sleep the rest of the night, but was a zombie today.

Oh also at 2am two random dogs came to say hi when I went outside.  Never seen them before (for a second I thought one of them was Petal).  No collars on either of them so couldn't call the owners.  They wanted to come inside but our house isn't setup for it so left them be (my nerves were frazzled enough I couldn't really deal with random dogs in the middle of the night).  Hope they made it home ok.

Tonight we went and got a new heater for that tank (it's always the heaters that do the tripping).  So far so good.  Is there some device you can get that will trip the power before the whole house circuit breakers trip?  Aren't those power boards with surge protectors meant to do that sort of thing?

Also sad is that my computer doesn't seem to recognise the UPS anymore.  It knows it's there, but doesn't recognise when it's gone onto battery mode :(

Fuzzy

So Friday night after the hot water dramas, headed out with Kit and Serena for a couple of drinks at the George.  Then came home and had a nice early night.

Saturday spent pretty much the whole day alternating between Nonogram puzzles and housework.  Tidied the spare room, the bedroom, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, vacuumed half the house, washed some sheets.  I think that was all.  Then Potty and Jake arrived so chilled out with them for the rest of the arvo.  Cooked a lamb roast for dinner.

Today we had a fairly lazy start to the day.  I might have gotten more stuff done in the afternoon, but I started feeling fuzzy like I'm coming down with something.  This time there's a bit of a cough as well.  *sigh*  So really didn't get anything much done today :(  The sweetie has been feeling pretty blah too - all weekend in fact.  Fun times.. not.. :(

Celebrating

Friday night mum came down from Sydney.  Chrissie and Zac came up and we all went out to the Dumpling Inn for dinner (slightly late on account of mum getting lost on account of road closures on account of accidents).  Had shallot cakes, crispy skin duck with pancakes, garlic prawns, xiao long bao and mixed chow mein.  All very nice.

Saturday morning we hopped in mum's car and headed down to Junee, arriving around lunch time.  The others watched some taped Home and Away while I finished up the holiday finances to figure out how much I owed mum.  Then mum, David and I played a game of canasta.  I got off to a good start, but David caught up and won.  Then we channel surfed Foxtel and ended up watching Under Seige 2.

For dinner we headed out to the Junee Golf Club.  Very strange venue.  I had to keep reminding myself it's a small country town.  Eftpos is that new fandangled thing didn't you know?  At least they took credit card when ordering food, if not at the bar.  Also had a cake for mum's birthday.

Cheesy goodness

Mum

Then back to the house where mum dozed through Arctic Tale and Ice Road Truckers in India.  I half watched and half did jigsaws on Kat's ipad.

This morning we headed home.  Cloudy morning, but no rain, so actually a very pleasant drive, otherwise we'd have been headed straight into the sun.  Got home, then mum continued on home as well.

This afternoon I went food shopping, then came home and cooked all afternoon.  Cooked a roast pork for dinner with lots of roast veggies, then a "breakfast lasagna" from a recipe Lachie gave me.  Stu's brain has been suffering from processed flour the past couple of days so we really want to try again to cut out the processed sugar and flour.  This recipe of Lachie's is about 150% fat though, so it really goes against everything I consider to be "healthy".  Maybe just a very small portion with some tomatoes for fibre?  I could easily have halved the recipe I think, as it did two baking dishes full of food.  The pork roast for dinner was nice too.  Watched some Homeland, did a day's worth of photo processing, and suddenly it's 9:45pm.  Weekend?  What weekend?  I think I completely missed out this week :(:(:(

Pretending to be healthy

Happy birthday mum!
