Friday morning got to go with Chrissie to her diagnostic ultrasound.  Quite long - about forty minutes.  Very very cool :)

In the evening we were both just getting ourselves organised for the weekend.

Saturday I did a day trip to Sydney to see the flat which is nearly finished being renovated.  On the way up I passed this accident, which apparently had happened some six hours earlier.  Sadly someone in a car in the oncoming traffic died.  I'd like to know what happened - did the truck driver have a heart attack or just fall asleep?  Got some lunch and had it at Luc and Lizzi's, then came home, diverting via Mittagong and Berrima, although I probably could have followed the diversion that had going off at Medway Road and probably wouldn't have been too held up.

Well actually I went via the club in both directions to drop off and pick up Stu.  Listened to six hours of "Criminal" podcast.  We watched Monsters University in the evening.

Sunday was just housework in the morning, then back out to the club again as we needed to show some newcomers around.  Had a swim before coming home.  Chicken dinner and Moulin Rouge! in the evening.

Today I found out before I left for work that I had a small package coming, so I worked from home so I could take delivery.  Just a small package - only contains 40320 pieces..

Friday night we watched The Last Samurai, which we'd last seen in 2012.

Saturday morning was just houseworkey stuff.

In the afternoon we headed out to the club.  G&A did a great pork roast for dinner.  Later there was epic Jenga which I didn't lose at :)

Jenga fall

Going back a step.  The other week I saw this in the window of Games Capital:

Ravensburger 40320 Disney jigsaw

OMFG!!!

I totally want one!  The price was obscured, but it looked like $500.  Given that I paid $385 for the Life jigsaw (24000 pieces), this didn't seem unreasonable.

So anyway.  Stu said I could get it if i could clear enough space in the dungeon to do it down there.  So guess what I spent a couple of hours Sunday afternoon doing?  I should have taken some before and after photos, it made a huge difference.

In the evening we got pizza and watched Short Circuit (getting through movies I've bought on DVD but haven't watched - this one I'd bought in 2004).

!!

Whoops.

So Monday morning I called the Games Capital to check if they still had the jigsaw in stock, and if so how much it was.  Yes they said.  $1500 they said.

Fricken. OUCH.

That's like $150 for each of the 4000 piece sections.  Which, considering we paid $150 for the piece of crap 5000 colours jigsaw (which was appalling in quality and was even missing a piece!  I've yet to rant about that here), is not *completely* ridiculous, but still...

Anyway, so I had a sad on Monday morning.  We finished stacking Stu's books (badly) into shelves, clearing the floor and a table.  I set up the tv (which we hadn't even plugged in since we replaced the upstairs one like a year and a half ago) and set myself up with a jigsaw and did that for a while in the afternoon.

I could get used to three day weekends.

Drowning

Friday night we watched Arrival.  Stu enjoyed it but I found it rather .. boring .. People on IMDB either loved it or hated it, there was no middle ground.

Saturday first thing we headed out to the club.  I did some jigsaw while the committee meeting was on, then there was a bbq lunch, then the AGM.  So by the time we got home it was dinner time and *blip* there goes half my weekend.  Went down to Kit's after dinner for a couple of drinks and caught up with Katie before she disappeared off to Queensland to live.

Potbelly Fire

Sunday was just house and computer stuff in the morning, food shopping and lunch, then cooking and cleaning.  Cath came over for dinner (epic roast pork) which was lovely.  (and it hailed and later *snowed* on Sunday!!)

Queanbeyan snow

Monday morning I was stressed at the state of the house and the state of All The Things going on and literally thought "I don't have time to go to work".  Seriously I can't cope at the moment.  I'm just not getting enough time at home to get everything done.  Self inflicted though.  We keep socialising.  cf next paragraph.

Monday night we were going to meet Damien at the Pot Belly for drinks, but turns out it's not open on Mondays.  So we ended up at the Labor Club instead.  Was good catching up, but it meant all I managed to do all evening was run the dishwasher and do my clothes washing.

Last night I was awake in the middle of the night stressing about everything (mostly about the flat in Sydney as well as our bathroom) so I was a zombie today.  I did sneak out to go to Chrissie's ultrasound which was pretty cool though.

Tonight Pete had a bit of a look at our shower as well and thought that no we probably aren't going to need to rip out the shower just yet (when were chatting on Saturday night he was thinking that we might have to).  Especially if there's no evidence of leaking after regrouting and sealing.  So that was a bit of a relief.  But by then it was already nearly seven o'clock, and I still had to get through Sunday's Survivor and eat dinner, download all my photos, backup my phone and backup my computer.  But our domain controller died overnight so I couldn't get onto the NAS to back it up.  So that was all a drama and everyone ended up grumpy.  I cleaned the kitchen while Stu tried to get a monitor plugged in to see what was up.  It eventually came back by itself, looks like it had some bad blocks, and was probably running a checkdisk which is why it took so long.

And now it's 9:50 and I'm completely wasted.  Stop the world, I want to get off.

Thursday night we went down to Kit's to play Cards Against Humanity which was a bit of fun.

Friday night Neil and I went along to Roz's 60th at the Abbey.  It was quite a nice night, although she asked me to be photographer which I wasn't super happy about - I like taking photos for myself, but doing it officially for someone else is way too stressful!

Saturday morning after waiting for the sweetie to get up and do some stuff for work, it was suddenly a lot later that I wanted it to be.  We went out to do food shopping for the evening - where we cooked a roast dinner for forty people at the club!!  Four kilos of pork, two kilos of turkey, a big potato bake, roast veggies, brussel sprouts with bacon, grilled zucchini, minted peas, and carrots, with my own apple sauce, and gravy using all of the pork drippings :)  It was pretty epic, but for forty people it was *just* enough food.  Still, everyone seemed happy, even though the turkey was a little dry on top because I forgot to put foil over it for the first part.

We didn't get home til lunch time today.  I was a bit tired this afternoon so didn't get a whole lot done.  I did finally finish watching through Monty Python series four, so I've now half watched all of it, although it really is rather silly.

Tonight we just watched Voyager, and the new Ghost in the Shell, which I could actually follow, on account of it being dumbed down for American audiences, and me.

And just like that the weekend is over.  Sad times.

Rinse, Repeat

The last two Fridays I've had lunch with the Chrises, which has been nice.

The last two Sundays I've spent all day at work, which hasn't been so nice.

In between there's been another evening at work, a lunch at Gozleme King, a club night, and a BBQ at @CLBradley's which was great.

I've also brought home one of my tapestries from the club so I can work on it while watching tv with the sweetie.

Peas and Ham

Contrails

Saturday morning I put on dinner to cook - Stu's Pea and Ham soup - a huge smoked ham hock, a kilo of yellow split peas, an onion, bay leaves, stock and water.  Except I had to take out many of the peas to simmer in a saucepan on account of it not all fitting in the slow cooker after they started to expand.  Whoops.  After 3pm I shredded the ham and put it back into the slow cooker with all the other peas then headed out to the club where it became part of dinner.  There were five soups, and all of mine disappeared! W00t!

Stayed up way too late chatting in the evening but slept relatively well in the van - seems it's a lot more comfortable when there's only one person in the bed.. hrmm!

Sunday was just doing stuff around the house.  In the evening we saw the episode of Voyager that has the King of Jordan in it (well he was "only" a prince at the time!)

Veggie bake

I've also been working on a new blog to be revealed soon!

Mother type weekend

| | Comments (0)

While mum was here over Christmas, we didn't spend a whole lot of time with her, on account of that's my only week off at home like ever, and so my only chance to really get things done around the house.  I still miss uni holidays.  Sigh.

Anyways, I said at the time she should come again for a weekend in say February, so she did.  She came down Friday night and we all had a swim to cool off (Friday was *stoopidly* hot).  Cooked sausages for dinner and we watched Shrek Forever After.

Saturday morning I woke up at 4am and never got back to sleep - spine hurty and brain that wouldn't shut up.  Got ready and we all headed out to the club.  Were we sat in the pool and hid from the sun.  And then had lunch.  Then sat in the pool.  Then went home.  And sat in the pool.  Saturday was *stoopidly* hot as well.  I cooked honey mustard chicken for dinner and then mum and I did some photo labelling.  Well, all her photos are labelled, but there's plenty of photos where there's people's names, but I don't actually know the people or how they fit everything in.  I really need to do family trees for all that side of the family.  Mum's father's side is well documented, on account of us being First Fleeters, but mum's mother's side, and all of dad's side is a bit lacking in who's who.  Not that anyone will care after I die.  Heck I barely even care ;)

Sunday was a bit cooler.  Mum went to church in the morning so I finished scanning the last album I wanted to return.  Then we did more labelling.  Then off to Scott's with EffanC for drinks and nibbles and music and pizza.  Quite a pleasant afternoon.  Mum wanted to watch MKR when we got home so I stayed til the end of that, then had an early night.

And then mum went home this morning.

Friday was the first of our work Christmas parties which was a lovely afternoon.

Saturday we headed out to the club for a committee meeting, then chilled out in the afternoon and had a Christmas feast put on by Fiona in the evening.  She was in the kitchen pretty much solid for nine hours.  Craziness.

Today was a quiet day at home, in which I did a bit of house tidying and put up Christmas decorations.  Still a lot more tidying I want to do though.  Oh and I also filed four months of photos and read four months of blog posts for the annual year in review post.

Cough

| | Comments (0)

Wednesday night I started coughing.  Spent the next few days feeling like crap.  And the next few days coughing non-stop.  Fun times.  Not.

Saturday we fed about seventy people at the club.  The sweetie had to do most of the food preparation though, because I didn't want to spread germs.

Dave and Kat came up for the weekend too which was nice, other than feeling like crap of course.

My back hurts, I think from all the coughing :(

So after a pretty depressing day at work I met up with Heather to shop for the weekend's club event.  Well really it was for the after party for the actual event.  Except the actual event has been cancelled due to insolvency of a third party and so everyone is pretty devastated.  The after party is still going ahead, but it might feel more like a wake to a lot of people.  And I prolly won't get to see the little brother, who probably had more invested in the whole thing than anyone.

*sigh*

Also.  I'm getting sick. Hurrah.

Beans

| | Comments (3)

I'm sitting here eating the very last of damned white beans from over a year ago.  Finally!  Have been trying to clear some freezer space for a club event.

Yesterday we went out to the club to do some preparation for said club event.  As well as that we had a bit of a swim, and generally had a relaxing afternoon.

Friday night I finally got around to watching It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World which I'd borrowed off David ages ago.  I remember watching it maybe thirty years ago, but all I remember from watching it the first time was them looking for the treasure under the big W.  It was a very silly movie.

The last two Saturday nights we've had nothing planned (or unplanned) which as been bliss.  We've watched the first two Karate Kid movies.  I've been enjoying them.

No news is.. no news?

Nothing much of note to report lately.

Had a weekend at the club for one of the long weekends.  Stu worked on his assignment and Heather, Lynn and I cleaned out the office.  It looks sooo much better now!

Had a bit of a walk last week to try and get the step count up.  Saw cool skies and fairy rings of flowers and swanlings.

Had a dinner with the sweetie at Pappa Rich in town last week which was nice enough.

Popped into Kit's when we got home.  Chloe was there with her new iPhone 7 which does take pretty good low light photos

Last weekend had a dinner at EffanC's and Scott came too and we just chatted all evening which was nice.

Other than that, I finished sorting Lego and picking out pieces for all the sets.  Now I'm putting them all together.  Fun times.

What else?

Friday night we had dinner with Damien and Amanda at the Dumpling Inn.  That was nice to catch up with them - haven't seen them in ages.

Saturday morning we did a bunch of shopping, then headed out to the club for a Christmas in July.  We got there a bit before 1:30pm, I put the pork on at 1:50pm, and spent most of the rest of the afternoon organising and preparing and cooking and stuff.  Had some help chopping veggies which was nice, and some people decorated the shed so it was all quite nice.  We bought a 4.8kg piece of pork.  1kg chicken roll.  Lots of veggies.  Made apple sauce from scratch.  We came home with a chinese container of pork.  People ate a lot I tells ya!  Everyone seemed to have a good time so that was nice.

Christmas in July decorations

This is not even all the food - it doesn't show the epic potato bake or really show the carrots and peas!
Christmas in July food

Oh we also made two pavlovas and brought some fruit cake.  Came home with three slices of pavlova and a bit of fruit cake.  Ok I didn't *make* the pavlova, just topped it with cream and berries.
Christmas in July dessert

Sunday was basically just housework.

Today I tried to do my usual morning routine of scanning some photos but my computer refused to talk to the scanner :(  Extremelly upsetting.  Will probably have to reboot my computer and *hope* I can connect next time.

Then Ingress was a big poo due to the last buggy release which meant needing to reboot the phone, then Optus was being a poo so missed out on glyph hacking a level 8 portal.  So I was having a crap day and hadn't even made it to work yet. :(

At work I'm feeling pretty useless.  I'm really too dumb to be in the team I'm in.  *sigh*

Spine

| | Comments (0)

My lower back has been hurting a lot today :(  Meant today I hardly achieved anything, other than a bit of work on the trivia night.

But stepping back a bit.

Thursday I *finally* got another one of my firewalls in and working.  Not really any dramas to sort out afterwards which was good.

Friday the sweetie took me to Smoque for dinner, and then we had a quiet night and went to bed at 10:30.  But was too hot and uncomfortable to get to sleep.  Until 4am :(:(:(:(  I'm thoroughly sick of all this hot weather :(:(

Saturday Stu had to go to the club for a committee meeting, and we spent much of the afternoon in the pool which was nice.  EffanC came over for a while last night and we watched random things on YouTube.

Club dragon

Today was just discomfort from my spine.  Watched an interesting documentary on the Last Days in Vietnam tonight which was really good.

Struggling

Saturday morning I gave away the fridge from the caravan that never worked on 240V.  One less piece of clutter in the house!

Then we headed out to the club.  I chatted to Chris and helped de-nail fence palings in the morning, and helped with the working bee (more de-nailing of fence palings) in the afternoon.

Club lizard

Club new fence

Came home and were all set for a quiet night in, started watching Back to the Future, then Kit invited us down.  Serena had brought Jenga Quake.  Which was my third variation of Jenga this week.  At work they have an original set.  At the club there's a much bigger set.  Quake has plastic bricks which have less friction so are a little easier to pull out.  But we didn't use the quake platform cause that's just silly.  Stayed up a bit too late annoying the neighbours by singing along to seventies music.

Today I barely did anything on the todo list.  Best I could manage was to clean the kitchen.  Did our food shopping, cooked/ate dinner, went for walkies with Chrissie then finished watching Back to the Future.

Mt Rogers Bug

Friday was the first of our work Christmas parties.  It was at the Lighthouse, but it was a little pricey - $35 for a two course meal (platter of entrees and a choice of three dishes for mains).  The problem with that being we have lunches at the Lighthouse all the time, and for $35 I could normally get a large meal *and* a few beers.  Also they were super super slow bringing food out - we didn't get entrees til 1pm, the fish mains at 1:30pm, and the steak mains at 2pm.  But it was a lovely day and there was plenty of time to have a bit of bubbly and they compensated us with a free drink voucher each so that was nice of them.  Had a great afternoon.

In the evening we watched Mockingjay Part 1.

Saturday we got ready and headed out to the club for the "official" opening of the pool.

Then we (I) cooked the roast pork (in a brand new oven!!) for a Christmas dinner.  The oven had never been used before so that was quite fun (although it was a bit sad to ruin its pristine condition!).  It works a lot better than the old one too and is much much much easier to light the oven and the cooktops - no more fiddling with a lighter and hoping you don't take the hairs off when you finally manage to light the oven.  The crackling turned out really well and I think the whole lot got demolished.  I also made up some apple sauce from scratch, and some gravy (which I'd forgotten to bring - so I was glad that we found a packet there). Other people brought other food so it was quite the feast.

Just before we were about to serve dinner, we got a call from Kit - she was getting water all through her yard.  I realised I'd left the hose disconnected from when I'd been watering the potplants that morning and it must have dropped down and started siphoning off the pool.  Kit jumped the back fence and saved the situation.  It was a little horrifying to think what could have happened if she hadn't noticed - another fifteen hours before we had planned to be home and it could have drained a *lot* of water.  Honestly, bestest neighbour *ever*!

After dinner was the compulsory fun.  Aka the Kris Kringle where you can open something new or steal something that's already been opened.  I'd completely forgotten about it til that morning, and then we were running late, so we didn't have time to do anything more imaginative that a couple of bottles of wine.  I'd used wine before and it's never popular, so was a bit reluctant to do it again, but didn't have time for anything else.  And guess which two things were the *very last* things to be picked up?  Yup, my two bottles of wine.  And to add insult to injury, the people that got them were all like "oh yay, wine".  I lost it.  I actually went up to both of them and said I'd buy them back off them, but they were all "oh, it's ok, it'll get drunk".  Yay.  I was feeling pretty miserable, and the sweetie had been feeling physically unwell all night, so we just went home.

Today was a cleaning and organising type day.

We also went over to Potty's cause he wanted to get rid of a bit of fridge stuff and some cleaning products that couldn't go in the truck.  I ended up with five full Coles bags of stuff, and a huge box full of cleaning products.  hrmmmm!!  I had to fire up the little fridge in the garage, and Tetris what I could into the freezer.  But got it all in.

For dinner I picked some of the wombok that's been growing like crazy, and cooked up some duck we'd gotten off potty.

Saw some pretty cool storm clouds from a big storm out past Captains Flat

Also cooked up a batch of honey mustard chicken for lunches/dinners during the week.

And have been trying to get on top of my photos.

And I might have put the Christmas tree this afternoon.  Last year I had the idea to do a "Frozen" inspired theme - so I've only put on blue and silver stuff, with blue and white lights.  It's very blue!

First Aided

Did a full day first aid course at the club today.

Was really going over a lot of the material we did in the online elearning, as well as some practical stuff such as CPR on adult/kid/baby dummies, and some bandaging and rolling people around.  Got all but one question right in the assessment, but I blame a badly worded answer for the one I got wrong.

Bandaged sweetie

Then we jumped into the new pool!

One year ago today we got driven on a magical mystical tour of northern Taiwan.

Stormy Weather

On Friday night we watched the *original* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action movie with Elias Koteas.  I always liked the movie as a teen and had only ever seen it for sale on dvd once before, but it was super expensive so I was waiting for the price to come down.  But the price never did and then the dvd disappeared shortly afterwards.  So I was pretty happy to find it on Bluray at JB for $16.

Saturday was house stuff, then went out to the club for "Italian night" which was pretty good.  They joeys are getting bigger.  The older one was hooning around and not as keen to be held.

Today a bit of house stuff, but also went in to work to have another go at the proxy upgrade, which fortunately worked well this time.

Tonight we watched a special (Back in Time) on the Back to the Future movies which was pretty cool.  Will have to watch all the movies again, haven't seen them in years.  Could be as much as ten years ago, given that I got the dvds in 2004 ...

Also tonight is rain and thunderbolts and lightning.  Yayy rain!!  Lots of cool yellow and orange stuff all over the catchments.

OK so I didn't.  I actually didn't do all that much at all.

But after a weekend of work, we have a new pool at the club.

Monday was just catching up on housework.  Why does it never end?  Why do we *always* have a messy kitchen/house??

The Brother Was Here

| | Comments (0)

Wednesday I turned off our old proxies (finally).  We'd had them for six years, and while I'm mostly happy to see the back of the pain they caused, it was still a little sad.  Friday I completely cleared them out of the environment, so even if we turned them back on, they wouldn't work.  Actually it was a mostly cleaning sort of a week.

Thursday night the little brother came to stay for a couple of days (training day at the museum on Saturday).  We got pizzas and chillaxed.

Friday was a swim night (after I cooked a pasta carbonara for dinner, and the brother couldn't help himself - he had to mow our front lawn hehe - but even so, a whole lawn of flowers survived).

Surviving flowers

Saturday the little brother left.  We did some shopping and had lunch out.  In the afternoon we went out to the club for an Oktoberfest dinner which was nice.  And the same couple who brought the lambs last time had brought two orphaned joeys this time.  One was only just getting its fur, but the other was hopping around when not curled up in a towel pouch.  He was so freakin cute, and also happy to be picked up and held.  Too cute!

Today I've been alternating between re-typing dad's photo labels (he lost the files for the first thousand photos, fortunately there's still a hard copy), and cleaning out the pantry and spice/tea/coffee cupboard.  They certainly look neater, but there's still a lot of stuff on the counter tops that I want to avoid putting back in the pantry if I can.  Even if that means using it up.  Which is a problem considering the salt content of most of it.
