So had a pretty decent weekend.  Went out for brunch yesterday morning - into Civic and tried "Cafe Garema" which used to be "My Cafe" (which had given us pretty appalling service once so hadn't been back).  I had eggs benedict (my favourite cafe breakfast) which were pretty good.

The rest of the weekend alternated between doing this jigsaw (5 hours, 37 minutes worth) -

Raining cats and dogs jigsaw
and lots of housework, gardening (whoever had the idea to graft ornamental cherry trees onto aggressive root stock should have been shot), photo sorting, "life" paperwork, and finishing my lifetime list of flights (I've been on eighty planes in my life! (a few repeats)).

Cooked a heap more veggies for dinner tonight - a riot of colour!  Had a small amount of leftovers.

Capsicum, zucchini, mushrooms, red onion, carrot, potato, sweet potato, with fresh oregano and rosemary, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.. yumm!

Spent at least two hours this morning attacking the foliage in the front yard.  Lots of chopping of cherry tree suckers, pulling up of weeds, and hacking away at plants in general, trying to get it all under control.  Piled up a *huge* pile of foliage to be chopped up more and put out in the garbage one bag at a time.

After lunch, I did a jigsaw I'd borrowed from the coast.  Just a map of the world, but with Qantas' flight routes on it - as of April 1965!!  With a 707 :)

Other than that, just a bit of house tidying and news feed reading.

The little brother turned up just before dinner, so instead of Stu cooking a fritatta for us, he decided he didn't want to cook at all, so I had to make pizzas for the boys.

Hook

Today the plan is to do housework and gardening.  There is so much to be done it's ridiculous.  Fortunately today is a glorious day, so will make a start on the garden I think.  Hopefully I'll be able to get the sweetie out of bed some time before the afternoon so he can help....

In order to clean my desk, I have to do some of the things on it.  Like mention a BookCrossing book I finished some weeks ago - Hook by Geary Gravel.  I saw the movie years and years ago, and the book I think is much the same (maybe).  It's a kids book though, so it's very short and doesn't really add much.  But it does make for easy before-bed reading.
Bit of an all over the place day today.

It was 8:20, so of course I had to get some alerts (a scheduled restart of a server, so I get alerts.. yay.. )

Got up to feed the birds and found the pool frozen over again, but this time, a solid sheet of ice, up to 3mm thick in places!  Froze my fingers playing with it :)  (the bowl of water I have out for the birds had frozen completely solid)

Late morning we thought we'd go see the chookens, only to find out the chooken show was only Saturday and Sunday :(  So tried to get a coffee at Satis, but it was closed :(  Decided to go to Dickson and have a wander round the block, and ended up having lunch there.  Then headed out to Bunnings and Jem Aquatics, then came home - three hours later.. doh!

Spent the rest of the afternoon doing some gardening stuff, and some fish stuff.

So didn't get any of the garage organised.. oh well..

Tonight just watched some episodes of Castle online, and Masterchef and did some UK planning.
Saturday was rainy and miserable, so felt no guilt at all sitting on my computer most of the day, and cleaning the house in between.

Saturday arvo we went and fed Yoda before heading to Mishi's for a games night.

Yoda

Had some nibblies and then some yummy chicken wings and sausages at Mishi's.  After dinner played a game of Trivial Pursuit (in teams so we had half a chance) except everyone else got questions that generally we could answer, yet the three or four times we actually got a go they were stoopidly hard questions that not even Stu knew the answers to.  So that was all very depressing, but at least the game was over very quickly.  There was then talk of playing Ticket to Ride, but there were seven people which made it too hard, so just had some tea and chatted for a while longer.

Sunday we got up and went over to Potty's cause Jeff and Ruth were in town and visiting.  Helped do some hedging, but Potty came along with his electric trimmer after we were done and redid the whole lot, so we needn't have bothered *sigh*.  At least we got a nice lunch.  Did our shopping and came home.

Lego Creator House

Sunday evening we headed over to Windy's for eating and drinking and being merry.  Lots of yummy roast pork and potato bake.  I made a caesar salad and most of that got eaten which was a good thing.  Then played some Singstar until got booted off so the kids could do High School Musical.  So that was pretty meh.  But Windy and I had a couple of games of Monty Python Fluxx before everyone left and we were finally allowed back on Singstar.  Had a great time at that until everyone else got too tired.  Surprise of the evening was doing exceptionally well at Aqua's Barbie Girl.  Who knew I could be so good at a song I've barely heard in twenty years!

Today we decided to have a quiet day at home (with a quick trip to Bunnings thrown in).  Did some gardening and a bit of tidying and watched last night's Bones and Castle online.  Then cooked our anniversary dinner.  $50 worth of ingredients!  Would almost have been cheaper to go out! heh.  I did Lana's stuffed chicken (the recipe that has won her a trip to Sydney to cook for Margaret Fulton!), which was yummy, but a little over cooked and a little too salty.  Also did an asparagus bake (another one of our new favourite recipes) and for dessert did these mini pavlovas which epic rocked!

Still very full, but quite sleepie and thinking about going to bed soon...
http://xkcd.com/657/  - I sooo want to print this out poster sized
http://www.toiletmap.gov.au/Default.aspx - every country should have one of these!!
http://shop.lego.com/HolidayShop/festivefun.aspx - inspired me to dig out some Lego on the weekend

Day went very quickly today.  Not sure why.  Maybe cause was "playing" with some more fun stuff rather than having to deal with too much crap.

Went for a walk with the sweetie tonight and did some gardening and trivia night research.  So pretty successful day really.

Jeremy

It has to be said that Jeremy Irons is damned hot in Die Hard with a Vengeance (as mentioned previously :) )

Got all the Christmas decorations finally put away this morning.  Then a Bunnings run and shopping.  Then some gardening, but not getting much done on my todo list :/

And that was about it for the day.  Boring really...

Just in case you were wondering, all the rain in Canberra this weekend is entirely my fault - I hung some sheets out on the line on Saturday, and we had plans to tidy up the garden this weekend. Rain has drenched my sheets, and stopped us doing the gardening.

So Friday night was beer and pizza night here (to the edge!!). Saturday was tidying then drinkies at Libby's where we ate and drank quite a lot (mostly champagne cocktails). Today was more tidying and cleaning and took another car-load full of stuff to the storage unit. We have over 6 cubic metres of crap in there. Dunno how we're going to fit it into a new house unless we get five bedrooms.. hrmm...

There's a roast pork and an evil potato bake in the oven. Getting hungry.....

Church

So this morning we met up with Damien and toddled off to All Saints in Ainslie. As it turned out it was All Saints day and the service was an hour later. So went and got some brekky at 2602.

My Veggie Stack

Service was ok. Did a couple of hymns I knew which helped. Sermon wasn't really much of a sermon. Won't pass judgment until I go on a regular day.

Afterwards we went to Tilly's for morning tea, aka the brunch we would have had after had it not been before.

The rest of the afternoon (what was left of it after we'd spent a couple of hours chatting) was gardening and going for a drive to recharge Stu's car battery.

Tomorrow I might die. Just warning you now in case you don't get any more blog posts from me....

It wasn't my fault - it was entirely too delicious! But more on that later :)

The plan for today was to see Sean and Mel this morning and have a quiet afternoon around the house. Except that by the time we actually got out of the house it was nearly lunchtime. Oops. But we had a nice late morning tea with them and then dropped by Scotty's to pick up some power tools and got back here by 3pm.

Anyway so we had these organic pork hocks we got at the farmers markets, along with some sweet potato, potato, parsnip, leek and onion. We cut up the veggies and sat the pork in some of them, turned up the oven and cooked it on high for a bit, then dropped it back down to 80C for another three hours.

While waiting for the pork to cook, we did some gardening and some handyman type stuff.

We also made a killer apple sauce out of apples we got at the markets. It was a bit of effort but I'm sure a heck of a lot better for us than stuff out of a jar.

So the whole thing came together and it was utterly delicious. Stu thinks it's the best roast pork he's ever had heh. But we both ate too much methinks ;)

Watched some more Star Trek, washed up, and time for bed now.
