Thanks nomes, could have gone either way with the RSS feeds, but eyeballs on the site pay the bills. Hope you enjoy more time here, and throw out a few more comments
First there was the usb hub. $12. Works intermittently. Will work for a while, then things will just drop out. Device has to be disconnected and reconnected. Since it's way up the back of my computer/work desk, this is too impractical for words. Pulled it out and now it's gathering dust. Epic fail!
Then there was the VGA to DVI converter dongle. $9. Makes the monitor not be able to display white, no matter how much I fiddle with the settings. Pretty sure this monitor worked perfectly on my last computer. Probably epic fail!
The rack-mountable patch panel we got that day actually seems to work. Win!
The airwolf remote-controlled helicopter. $28. Bought batteries for it yesterday. The remote control console doesn't even switch on!! Epicest fail of all!!!
There's also a ps/2 to usb mouse dongle I got for $3, but haven't tested that yet. I'm guessing with three out of four failures so far, the probably of it not working are pretty high.
Which is why I will never again waste $3 on computer fairs.
Still cut up about it.
So when I log on this morning and see comments about evicting people and complaining about lack of feedback, I get pretty pissed off.
Might blog properly later.
Using our last bit of internet before we pack up for our last day here. Going to be a *very* long trip home....
Our hotel in Dresden is right over a big pedestrian mall/plaza thing.. and it being Saturday night there's live music happening. The music stopped a while ago after "Strangers in the Night" so they could have some fireworks.. so that was bad enough that it was still in my head... but the fireworks just finished and the song is back!!! arrghghhghghhh!!!

So eBay have had a couple of announcements in the last two weeks that freak me out somewhat.
The first was the announcement that PayPal and cash-on-delivery will be the only permitted ways of making payments for items on eBay (link). When I first saw this I thought it was an April Fool's joke. Except that it was April 10. eBay already rip people off with their fees, and now they want even more of the takings with PayPal fees. It's criminal!
The second is the Big-Brother monitoring they will be doing of accounts (link). If you list an item from a different computer, they may call you to see if it's really you. Now I can see the logic and security model of doing this, but I'd hate to think what could happen if they got it in their heads that you weren't who you said you were and they lock the account...
But D was there and afterwards stated that he hated U2, and then said he liked the house but complained about the mess and why not get a cleaner. Which just rubbed me the wrong way. As it would anyone that's had a few drinks I'm sure.

The search is completely lame. ie, it doesn't fricken find anything!!! I was looking for a particular email tonight. Now I'd been in Eudora so I know the search term I was looking for did actually occur in at least one mailbox. So I dropped out to the Vista search to see if I could find it in other files. Well the search (including within files) returned *NOTHING* !?!?!? Not even the mailbox that I'd seen it in.
I HATE VISTA!!!!
I get home, do some housework, cook dinner, eat dinner while watching tv, go for a walk, do the washing up, talk to the mother for an hour (!!) on the phone and suddenly it's 10pm and I've next to nothing to show for the night.
Went hunting today to find some nice paper/envelopes to use for the invitations. Looked in like five different places. Nothing. Canberra sux sometimes.
Maybe I'll just send everyone an email to invite them to the wedding.
