Flight Control

A big influence for me getting an iPhone was Flight Control.  My brother first showed me this game and I was instantly hooked.  Everytime I was anywhere near anyone with an iPhone I had to play this game.

At work they have a file going on people's top scores.  I used to contribute until I was responsible for poor team morale (it was a different team) by posting my high scores.

Today I completely shattered one of my own high scores - going from 166 to 460!!

Flight Control 460

I was pretty stoked :):)

But tonight I went online to see what other people around the world have gotten.  It was a little bit freaky.  Like the first video I found that was over 10000.  Or the next one I found that was over 50000 !!!  And finally looked at the Cloudcell scores - some dude got over 80000 on the default airport!  Somehow I don't think I'll get anywhere near that.

Current standings:
Default - 179
Hawaii - 193
Aircraft Carrier - 115
RFDS - 460

Crazy to think a game dated 1991 still works in Windows 7 :)

But there is no escape.. you can outrun the first one, but another will come along and grab you anyway..

Bongo

Nat and Andrew came over last night, and after watching Mrs Doubtfire and eating pizza, we played on their Donkey Kong bongo game.  It was so much fun! Did a heap of songs off that, before switching to Mario Kart when our hands got too sore (and we'd run out of songs we knew :) ).
So what else has been happening this week?

Well Tuesday we had Jeff & Ruth over for dinner.  Nothing fancy, just pasta, but some nice nibbles beforehand.  Conversation got all philosophical-like. heh.  Then we watched Stu's Japan photo dvd.

Thursday went out for dinner to Ginger & Spice in Gungahlin with Scott and Kerry and Jeff and Ruth.  I'd had a few beers by this point, so evening was perfectly pleasant ;)  They'd ordered by the time we got there, so when we arrived, so did the food.  So didn't get much conversation really.

Yesterday had a fairly slow day.  Went for a walk up Mt Rogers.  Then had Nat and Andrew over to play Wii.  Played some really freaky rabbitd game, and then some Mario Kart.  Actually managed to unlock two new cups to play.

Today I came pretty much as close as I'll ever get to finishing the Olympics (as anyone who reads my Twitter feeds will have been bombarded with ;) ).  The only things remaining are Wario and Amy's 110m hurdles in mission mode, the perfect 10 in vault emblem, and the perfect scores in skeet and archery.  When I got the last trophy today, it put up a special congratulations screen and started playing game credits, with a "thankyou for playing" screen at the end :)

I should point out that I was enjoying the glorious spring weather today while playing Wii.  Had doors and windows open and was gazing out at our cherry tree which is *going off* at the moment :)

Anime Night #3

| | Comments (0)
Had the usual anime crowd over tonight.

First up we watched this odd episode of a show Stu has been watching.  No idea what it's called :)

Then pizzas arrived and we watched this way cool dvd of our Japan photos that Stu put together with all these funky transitions and stuff.

Then a couple of episodes of Speed Grapher, and a couple of Abenobashi.

Finally some Mario Karting, which I actually won two rounds of! Pretty freaky!

Ok so this first photo was actually taken in winter... Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games!!

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games!

It was such a glorious day I made Stu go for a walk with me..

Captured a magpie taking off

Some cherry? plum? blossoms.. I dunno, one of those stone fruits :)

Discovered Picasa's "Where in the World" game tonight quite by accident.  It's surprisingly addictive.  My best score after ten rounds is 2136.

Edit: round 18 - 2647 :)

Zombie Town ...

Zombietown

Zombietown

Had a super fun night at Nat and Andrew's.  Stu helped Nat cook a stir fry, then we played Pictionary and then attempted to play Zombietown.  But it took us ages to figure out what we were meant to do and suddenly it was 11pm and the Stubie really needed to go to bed.  So didn't get to actually fight any zombies.. oh well.. :)

Games

Wandered over to Damien and Amanda's place this arvo for games.  I was on a bit of a winning streak which was kinda freaky.  Played 10 days in the USA first, and I won two out of the three games.  Then Condotierre, which I won the first and completely crapped out in the second.  After dinner we played Carcassonne which I also won.  So that was all a bit fun.

For dinner we were going to get takeaway from the Dumpling Inn, but they weren't answering their phone, so we ended up going to Kinh Do, which was pretty good.  Well the pork and chicken were, the tofu smelt a bit like dishwater heh :)

So all in all a very pleasant afternoon/evening.

They got us a 2009 Bunny Suicide calendar too which is pretty funny :)

Unreal

On Saturday I had the urge to play some Unreal Tournament, having not played it for quite a while.  Mostly I did crap, but sometimes I did well..

Unreal

Tried to play with Stu, but either or both of our firewalls got in the way, even when bypassed/disabled, and we didn't feel up to fighting with it.

A *very very* long time ago (read: 1996), Guy introduced me to Laserwar.

Well it never worked from Windows 2000 onwards, so I haven't played it in a *very* long time.

But was I was backing up my computer tonight I noticed it again and asked Stu if he had dos 6 on disks anywhere so I could setup a virtual machine to play all my old games.  He said just use dosbox.  So I did!  And dredged up the memories of playing this rather fun little game...

Nice Saturday

Didn't really get a whole lot done, but still was a nice day.

This morning our fireplace caught another sparrow (three died in there while we were on our honeymoon :( ).  Spent ages chasing it round the living room.  In fact I even had it pinned by the tail feathers at one point, only to have all the tail feathers come adrift and it get away :(

Sparrow tail feathers

But I did manage to catch it eventually, and off it flew into the trees.

Then we went over to Damien's for lunch and games.

Started the afternoon off with Guillotine, which was quite fun, and Stu won. Then a game of Carcassonne which Stu also won, but it was very close. And finally Killer Bunnies, which wasn't a whole lot better than last time, although much less complamicated without all the extra expansion sets. It really is a rather pointless game. Damien won that one in the end.

Finally home for home-made pizzas and some Star Trek.

Saturday Night

Yesterday afternoon Damien came over and stayed for dinner.

Aside from a lot of talk about miniature wargamming, conversation and nibblies were very pleasant.

We watched an episode of Star Trek while eating our dinner of roast kangaroo and potato bake, which the boys were quite impressed with.

Afterward we played The Gardens of the Alhambra, which Damien won (pictured purple below), and Gloom, which I won significantly by some stroke of luck.

The Gardens of the Alhambra

Talk turned to musicals, and The Fiddler on the Roof, so we actually started watching that a bit before eleven. At midnight decided we were too tired and gave up watching.

A very pleasant evening.
